The Country Club of Whispering Pines
About The Country Club of Whispering Pines
The Country Club of Whispering Pines falls under the radar of most golfers traveling to Pinehurst. Its 36 holes by Ellis Maples are just minutes from the village. The longer Pines Course is an "inland links", while the River Course requires more accuracy. Guests can stay in condo suites or in a standard hotel-style room with access to a fitness center, tennis courts, outdoor pool and clubhouse with a restaurant and meeting facilities.Facts

Course in great shape even with all the rain
The course was in excellent shape as dry as could be considering all the rain that has fallen. Greens rolling good over seeded fairways and tee boxes in great shape.
etiquette
Over all the courses in good shape, The greens were real good the fairways were a little hairy. Got stuck behind a foursome of members on hole 13 and it took me longer to play the last five holes as it did the first 12. They wouldn't let a single player go through. The lady at the pro shop asked me how my round was and I explained to her what happened and it was like "oh well".
Dogleg City
This course is challenging if you can't play a fade.
While some holes are fairly straight, the majority have some type of dogleg to them. Shaping your flight is necessary! Otherwise, very good course.
Bob McLean
Great course on a beautiful day. Very helpful and friendly staff. Very enjoyable round of golf. You can challenge yourself if you play all the back. We will be back again and again.
great value for the money
we played this course in the middle of the week, they were busy but not crowed, which was great, we didn't have to wait on anybody and did not have anybody pushing us. course was in great shape. tee boxes and fairways had been over seeded and were thick and green. very nice. greens were very fast . overall a great course to play. will play again in the near future.
Great course
Had a great time
We will definitely play this course again
Friendly Staff and well maintained course
The staff is very friendly and helpful with this being my first time to play there. The back nine is scenic with it winding by canals.
Course needs serious work
This golf course was in bad shape. Fairways hadn't been mowed, greens were incredibly slow and bumpy, the food and beverage amounted to a vending machine. Spend your money elsewhere.
probably not going back
Not a bad course at all, but greens were in bad shape. Extremely slow and full of dead spots.
We were given an uncharged cart...inevitably it died on the back nine.
A groundskeeper was watering the green as we sat in the fairway 150 yards out waiting to hit. She didn't stop so we just went ahead and hit. Apparently this didn't phase her, as she continued watering the green along with our balls.
We were also stuck behind a fivesome.
greens where terrible /they used to be much better
Fairways and tee boxes good
greens very bad, they used to be really good.
Nice Course - Great Challenge
Played 7/14/15 and here it is:
Driving Range Turf Beat Up.
No snack bar, just coffee and drinks
Average Pro Shop
Staff was very nice
Course was nice
Greens Slow and Mushy due to heavy rain this time of year.
You'll use all clubs in your bag
Course from U.S 1 was off the beaten path
Great design
The course designer, Ellis Maples, is great. He makes you think you way around the course in a very enjoyable way. It was a joy to play.
Nice facility
First time playing the river course after playing the pines twice. River is easier and looks better aesthetically but I would play the Pines course again first because it's more challenging and plays to 72. Can't go wrong with either. Only complaint is the recently aerated greens. I will be back.
nice place
Really liked this layout. Fun to play. Greens were punched a few days before so I can't comment on that. Tightened up some on the back. 10 and 11 played difficult for me so eat something and hydrate. All and all a very nice day.
Worth the drive
Going in knew the greens were recently aerated but....still better than playing the courses in the triad that are all affected by winter kill. I'd rather play great conditions throughout and aerated greens instead of horrible tee boxes and fairways and just decent greens that is the norm with courses in the triad.
Great Course
We played the River Course, which was in great overall shape. I would've given the course 5 stars if the sand traps were in better shape. Greens were in excellent shape and course design is challenging. We will be back!
Great day , on a wonderful course.
This is a very nice course , in great. shape. Greens were fast and smooth. Lots of grass on tee boxes and fairways. It is challenging, but not overwhelming. Overall, a good time. Will come back for sure.
Pleasantly Surprised
Played Whispering Pines late in the afternoon after playing Southern Pines for the first time earlier in the day. Much more impressed with Whispering Pines!
Conditions were excellent from tee to green. Course layout wasn't overly challenging but long enough and tight enough in spots to make you golf your ball. Greens were large and fairly flat, rolled very true probably about 10.
Gentleman in golf shop wasn't overly friendly or informative, oh well!!! For me it's more about the course then the service.
Overall loved the experience and can't wait to get back down and play the other course.
Weekend Trip
Beutiful course and in great condition! The greens were fast and the fairways had nice grass. We will be back!
Nice greens
Played the course and found it to be very good on all aspects. Greens, Tee boxes, fairways groomed just as they should be. Pro shop, club House and course staff friendly and helpful.
Bad shape! Spend the money elsewhere
