The Country Club of Whispering Pines
About The Country Club of Whispering Pines
The Country Club of Whispering Pines falls under the radar of most golfers traveling to Pinehurst. Its 36 holes by Ellis Maples are just minutes from the village. The longer Pines Course is an "inland links", while the River Course requires more accuracy. Guests can stay in condo suites or in a standard hotel-style room with access to a fitness center, tennis courts, outdoor pool and clubhouse with a restaurant and meeting facilities.Facts

Well kept course with many challenging holes!
Greens were in excellent condition and really enjoyed the course layout & challenging layout! Only wish they had a few more away from clubhouse amenities such as a mid way snack shop &/or beverage cart.
Challenging layout
enjoyed the challenge of river course.. Good shape for early spring play. No wait time off tees. Very friendly staff, and course maintenance personnel were considerate and friendly.
Overall, great shape
Greens are rolling so sweet and overall rest of course was in really good condition. Bunkers were a bit inconsistent, some were firm/crusty and others super soft.
3.5 Course
I would not give 4 stars for this course.
I played Pine course and it was somewhat fairly easy.
I give this course 3.5 stars but not more than 4.
Not too bad course.
GREAT DAY ON THE COURSE
THE WEATHER WAS PERFECT AND THE COURSE WAS A GREAT AND CHALLENGING COURSE. IT WAS IN GREAT SHAPE EXCEPT FOR THE GREENS...UNDERSTANDABLE AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. I RECOMMEND THE COURSE AND WILL PLAY AGAIN.
great find
This is the third time I have played Whispering Pines.
Its an easy drive from my home in Apex (1 hour) and close enough to Pinehurst that we can enjoy the village.
The course price was ridiculous at $13 and we were the first few to tee off at 11:50 with the course filling up behind us. After we warmed up we never saw the twosome in front or anyone behind. Course conditions were fine with dormant fairways; , greens had been punched so putting was a wash. It really was the best medicine for an early year warmup. The course is basic and we enjoyed the layout. Other golfers were polite and friendly. I will play it again when they offer such generous greens fees and we find the greens in better condition.
Great time
Would recommend this course to anyone that's going to NC to play golf.
Great course
We scheduled for the 9 February worst time to do that with hauling unbearable winds and very cold temperatures.
Our two lady's quit during the round.
May be we reschedule at a later
Nice course
Country Club of Whispering Pines - River Course
After reading some negative reviews, I was pleasantly surprised to find the fairways and greens in very good shape on this course. The recent weather has been pretty good for growing grass, landscaping, etc. too. My golf buddy and I had a very good time and would recommend this course! FYI: I have not played Pines Course yet.
River needs work!
Played the River on 9/25/16. The layout of the course is very nice but our golf experience was not due to the condition of the course. Height of grass in the fairways was basically the same as the first cut of rough at every other course I've played. Greens needed serious work as there were many place where intrusion was pretty fair along. Some of the cart paths reminded me of dirt roads in Pakistan after a monsoon. I suppose it was a good value but I am not interested in a return to the River. If you can't play Pine then go somewhere else.
River course BAD SHAPE
The RIVER COURSE Greens and fairways terribly bad CONDITION. We played 18 and at rhe turn it was just a beverage machine which didn't work very well. COME TO FIND LOCALS said they PINE COURSE has all new greens and beautiful.
Seems like and old friend!
The course is grand old dame! Great layout atypical Sandhills design, plenty of pines, sand and just enough water to keep your attention.
Local rains had the fairways and greens a bit fuzzy but still played fair. The par threes are all you want and hole #4 is a world class par 4.
Shop staff was helpful and very friendly, offered some course tips that payed off too!
Make this a stop on your next trip to the area.

Expected more
On our first visit to the Pinehurst area, we played both courses on the same day. Our group of 10 golfers enjoyed the courses but it was not up to the standards we had in mine when we planned our trip to Pinehurst. There was nothing unique that made the courses stand out. Course conditions were fine, greens were in good shape. But nothing screamed "Pinehurst" and wow.
Nice course ,,,one not to miss if in the area
Excellent pace of play, very nice day to be in N. Carolina
Enjoyable Early Season Round
This was the first course our vacationing foursome played away from the Foxfire resort at which we were staying. My rating is comparable to the Red Fox course at Foxfire with a slightly more interesting layout but not quite as good condition. The river provides some very scenic views. Pace of play was a little slower than the other courses we played, but with the nice scenery you didn't mind too much. Once again, it was an enjoyable round on a course I would definitely recommend.
Whispering Pines visit
Greens were very good, rolled great, had a few elevation changes on holes with sloping greens. Fairways still dormant, as with some of the rough but all in all would come back and still need to play the river course, only played the pines.
Green tee boxes, fairways, and greens!!!
This was my first time playing in the Pinehurst area, and I was very impressed with this golf course. I played on 2/5/16 and it had just rained the previous 2 days, so I wasn't sure if any of the golf courses would be playable. I didn't run into any standing water in the fairways, just in 1 sand trap which wasn't a big deal. The tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in great shape and they do over seed this course in the winter time which not all courses do. There are 2 courses here and they had us all play the pines course that morning since the river course was just recently aerated. If you don't keep your ball in the fairway, you will pay! The one thing I didn't like about this course was after you finish the front 9 you are nowhere near the pro shop. There isn't much for snacks there anyway so make sure you bring your own food and drinks. Other than that, staff was friendly and overall a good experience.
