Jackson Course
Course in great shape to be winter. Just wish they would over seed with winter rye
where is the next hole??
awesome course- just tricky cart paths. we unfortuntately had two drunk fools playing in front of us and after a ridiculous confrontation passed them
Great, friendly staff and fun, but challenging course!!
Got fantastic deal on GolfNow. Fairways and rough were brown, but in good shape; greens were superb...and lightning fast. LOVE playing both courses at Rock Barn!
Rock Barn Jones course Rocked
The Jones course was played with a buddy from up north and was a excellent value for the money, course was in excellent shape greens super fast, staff was very friendly and helpful. This is a course that I will go back to often and recommend to all my golfing friends. Cost we paid through Golfnow was a excellent value.
The course was good the weather was not so good
We had a good time and there were some places where the weather created some problems although it is Fall and that's what leaves do
This course is a great test of shot placements.
The PGA senior tour played this back nine just a few weeks ago as part of their Greater Hickory Open. What a great layout and plenty of challenging shots to make par. The greens were in great shape and very fast but true. I liked the hills and drops in elevation, some as much as 40 yards made it a real challenge. Plenty of nice views too.
Course was in great condition. Satff is always freindly.
I have played this course many times and always enjoy it. I played alone and the started let me go off early. Make sure to stop in at Sues grill, the food there is always great.
Excellant layout. Definately a well developed course.
Teed off at 2:00 and finished around 6:00. Hickory classic was 8 days before. The back 9 of the Jackson course was the Champions front 9. (I was at the Classic on the 19th and walked the back 9) It was perfect. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens were perfect. Being able to play a course after the tour played was a first. I was impressed from the practice facility to the last putt.
Jones Course is Exciting but Challenging
Great design requiring a lot of creativity. Many blind tee shots which makes it difficult to play your first time. Route from green to next tee may not always be obvious.
the couse is in great shape
The course is in great shape, it took us a little over 4 hrs to play the round. I have played this course 6 or 7 times this year and it has always been a pleasure to play.
Love this Course
This course goes above and beyond with not only customer service but also the quality of the course.
always excellent conditions
one of my favorites to play ANYWHERE I've traveled!
Great condition on the greens and in the fairways.
Play was very slow because they allowed college girls to walk and play in late morning tee times. We took 3 hrs to play the back nine waiting every whole for them to walk to their ball and spend excessive time to hit their shot. Coaches were there and should have focus a little more on the speed of play. We tried to be understanding, but standing on tee box for 10 min each whole got very old.
Layout has nice terrain features
Sandy greens were a distraction. Playability was good. Rough depth quite uneven. Still a good value at the special rate. Not in 60 to 80$ regular rate shape at all.
Great course, bad shape - very disappointed
Rock Barn is a great course. Lots of challenging holes and a great layout. HOWEVER, it should be closed right now due to the repairs caused by the flooding they received. 12 out of 18 holes had some combination of workers yelling to one another and Bobcats/backhoes running the entire time. My office is much quieter than the course on the day we were there.
It was just not an enjoyable round at all. There were several temporary greens and essentially all of the sand traps were in disrepair. Additionally, the course has a completely new layout on some holes because of the temporary greens. Very few holes had signage regarding this, and none included any distances. This was my first time playing here in years and I did not remember where the tee boxes were in relation to the greens, so there were several times we went the wrong way because there was just no signage on the course to speak of. I realize this is probably because of the tournaments held here but even some effort at something temporary would be helpful.
I've booked many rounds through this site, but this is the first time I've felt compelled to leave a review because I (and the others in my group) was so thoroughly disappointed. Again, I certainly understand that the weather is unavoidable, but my point is that the course should not be open during this time if it is in such disrepair and construction.
not long but a fun challenge
The greens are always smooth and reasonably fast ..not a long course but you must play good irons into the greens to score.. The staff is as professional as you will find. Great driving range and practice facility...very crowed day when we arrived, but we still played in less than 4 hrs..
Great experience
I accidentally booked my tee time for the next day and was pleasantly surprised at how willing the staff was to work with me; they got me out immediately for the same price my discounted tee time was for. Beautiful fairways and greens. The only issue is the two greens on the jones' course which got washed away in a storm. It's seems though that they're well on their way to having them ready in the next few weeks. I will definitely play here many more times, even though I live about two hours away.
Great deal for the money.
Course is under repair but did not pose a problem. Course was in excellent condition. One hole was closed and one hole had a temp green. Still a great deal for the money. Always fun to play.
Good but could be great
A friend and I made a last minute decision to play golf, pulled out the GN app and booked a tee time at Rock Barn. I live in Charlotte, have wanted to visit the course for quite some time and was excited to get a tee time around the time we wanted to play. Upon check-in, we were charged $10 less than the GolfNow quoted rate. I was surprised but thought, heck, maybe they didn't see the price or were just in the Labor Day holiday spirit. Pro shop did ask if we'd played before nor did they offer up any information about the fact that, a) several holes on the course were under construction, b) the course doesn't loop back around after 9 and the halfway house is closed for the day so you should stock up now, or, c) we have another 18 hole course you might want to play instead. They missed an opportunity to make some good cash because we would've stocked up on gatorade, beer and food. Opportunity missed.
Aside from all of the poor customer service we received in the pro shop, the ladies at Sue's Bar & Grill made up for it afterwards. I think every person there refilled our drinks, asked if our meal was prepared well and went out of their way to be helpful and polite.
Looking forward to playing again when the renovations are complete.
They've lost some greens due to flooding
I was quite disappointed at the conditions for the price. I understand they had a torrential rain recently that caused the total loss of two greens and several other areas of disrepair. I felt that these conditions warrant a reduced rate which obviously their management didn't. As a result I wouldn't recommend due to not adjusting for conditions, the price would have been commensurate with pristine conditions.
