great course
Played here a few times and love it. Cant wait to go back!
A true and beautiful test of the game!
This is probably one of the most scenic and well maintened courses I've played in my 56 years of playing. It is the most difficult course for me to score well on but it continues to call me back time and again to attempt to do better. You must be accurate off the tee. Very friendly and accommodating staff. I played poorly but I can't wait to play the course again. Too bad it's 5 hours away from where I live.
Block off your whole day - but nice course
The good - great course, course layout was awesome and conditions were awesome even though they Aerated the greens recently but it did not have a huge effect on putts. A must play course. Overall a fun challenging course.
The Bad - tee off at 9:18am and finished at 3pm. And unreal 6 hr round. Longest round I ever played. Every hole had a group on the green, one in the fairway, one on the tee box and one waiting. This was for every hole. Just unreal and really really aggravating. Only saw the ranger once and really im not sure if he was the ranger but it was about 5 minutes between each swing we took. Just awful.
Score - 82
One of my favorites
This course as I said is one of my favorites. Great layout and very good shape. After you get past the long #1 par five the course gets a little easier. some great holes going over water and a lot of elevation change.
Great shape
This is a tough course but fair. Watch out for those bunkers!!
Great Foothills Course
Challenging course, well placed bunkers with fast greens!
The Jones course is a must play if you are in the area
The Rock Barn Jones course hosts the Sr PGA Tour for a good reason; it's one of the few courses in the area that cannot be overpowered and requires good players to hit every club in their bags. In short, it's terrific. I am personally not a fan at all of the Jackson course and believe it's in dire need of a full redesign and as such I will only play the Jones course at Rock Barn because again it is simply spectacular.
There is a world class/full service spa on the premises as well that is very highly regarded that's also worth mentioning.
This Winter was really hard on all of our courses in the Central and Western NC areas and Rock Barn took a beating too. The Winter burn damaged bermuda all across the region and like most Rock Barn is recovering but not back to 100% yet. Southern Bermuda grass responds very well to water & lots of heat and so it will be its usual specatular self as it should be in a few weeks (mid June) I'd think.
Players will face a number of forced carries so bring your "A" game. Tough track for lady players due to the forced carries that the players face. She's going to struggle too unless she's hitting it solid and fairly long. I played with my wife who is a high handicapper and some of the holes were simply just too tough for her to play due to her skill. It's not a place for beginners.
I played the tips as I always do and that course hands you all you can handle particularly on the longer par 4's.
The par 3 holes sadly are all 200+ from the back which I don't care for as I like to have variety and just because a player is playing the full course, each tee shot on a par 3 should not require the same club but Rock Barn forces you to hit a long iron (3, or 4 in my case) on each of those 200+ yard holes.
Greens are terrific and suffered no damage from the Winter. A few tee boxes were beat up from the Winter burn and a few fairways were rougher than I've ever seen them but this was the coldest Winter I can recall so it stands to reason.
Overall, with Golfnow the deal to play Rock Barn at a discounted rate is ALWAYS worth it and if you have not yet tried the Jones Course, do.
Great course!
Course conditions are coming around. Greens are excellent but fairways are still growing in and there are some somewhat bare/thin grass areas in the fairways. No matter; this is still a great layout that's a joy to play!
Expected more but received less.
Met three friends at the course for an afternoon round on Sunday May 4th. Pro shop was nice and staff was friendly. Loaded up and went off to the Jackson Course and began our round.
I expected a well manicured and well taken care of course. I was disappointed on both counts. Fairways were patchy. Overall the course is tight and errant tee shots are severely punished with ample OB around the course. Greens were very nice and fast with a true roll.
Overall I was not impressed with a supposed higher end course both with course condition and overall experience with amenities.
I probably will not go back and play the course again.
As Lush as it gets
Recently played the wonderful Bali Hai course in Las Vegas. It is in the best condition I have ever seen it. The tee boxes , fairways and greens were impeccable. Bali Hai has a lot going for it from the location on the strip 5 minutes from any major hotel taking you easily from the tables to a tropical paradise you to a paradise you won't soon forget. If you want to bring back memories from Vegas, this is the place. When you factor in the lack of transportation cost and time to get to further out courses there is great value in Bali Hai.
Wonderful Value
Great golf course! Greens in great shape. Fairways and rough are coming in and will be great in a couple of weeks! I always love playing here! I like the Jackson design much better than the Jones design and it is always less busy!
Great time in NC
We were a little bit ahead of springtime in North Carolina, but it was nonetheless a great day for golf. The course was about three weeks away from excellent, but we knew that going in. We had a wonderful day -- great staff, great weather, & great course...Tough, but great. We will look for this course on TV during the Champions Tour, and the next time we are in Charlotte.
Course condition
I played the course before the Blue Grass had turned green. The course still was outstanding.
Great course
Even with poked green Rock Barn is a top quality place, both courses are first rate as is the entire facility.
Great Golfnow Hotdeal
Fantastic upscale course with super nice staff and great Golfnow discount. What more could one ask for?
this course is very challenging
very nice laid out course that worth playing again.

Great course. Good condition for this time of year. Pace was a negative. Foursome of members tarnished what should have been a perfect day on a great course.
Very Impressed!
This was my first time playing at Rock Barn and I was very impressed. We picked the Jackson course this time and saving the Jones for our next trip. With the weather having been so up and down lately this course is in excellent condition....I might add that I believe this course is the best I have played on during the winter and I am sure it will be pretty awesome during the summer. The staff were extremely friendly and the course itself was excellent. I will definitely be back especially with the deals golfnow.com has.
Spectacular golf course
I can see why the senior tour plays this course every year. Tremendous layout, with a wide variety of challenging holes. Greens were in excellent condition and the fairways, although dormant, were still in great shape. Bunkers were exceptional and the sand perfect. Staff could not have been friendlier or more accommodating. We arrived early as a twosome and the starter talked to a threesome and foursome scheduled ahead of us and got us out immediately. I'm from Chicago, but I hope to play this course when everything is lush and green. A must play for anyone in the Charlotte area.
Good course, Swamp like conditions
We played this course on a Friday, after an overnight rain and another shower just before our start. The course was nearly under water, of course cart path only. Every fairway was casual water which made for some really tough playing conditions. The greens were ok considering the weather, but several times had to move from casual water on greens. We were exhausted by the end of the round due to the conditions. Scoring was not what we were looking for.
