Fun course
Greens are in good shape fairways were good but a lot of dead grass around probably due to lots of rain between cuts. Staff is great will play again
Good...not great
Conditions were not the greatest. The course was extremely dry for some reason, the ball was bouncing very high in the air and you had to play short of the green for the most part. Great views throughout the course.
Great fun!!
Course was in nice shape. Greens were rolling true, very scenic. Worth the 30 minute drive for me. Brian in the proshop is a great representation of who you want welcoming people to your course and resort. Professional and pleasant.
Little brother to the course across the street
Split Rock isn't bad. Its a nice layout with a terrific clubhouse...but its definitely the little brother to Jack Frost which is across the way from it. The day we played the greens were still recovering from aeration and the grass length was quite inconsistent, making it almost impossible to hole a putt. I would like to see it at its best, but it really doesn't compare to Jack Frost -- and if I am driving an hour and a half, Im going to play Jack Frost. It would make for a good 36 hole day to play them both...their driveways literally face each other.
Pocono golf
Beautiful setting. It was in great shape. Tricky shots, need to play several times to know what to hit.
The woods might as well be water
Split Rock is a pretty course and in decent shape, but if you are beyond the rough your ball is gone. The rough is narrow, and the woods have thick underbrush that might as well be water. If you are an average golfer and treat these woods as anything other than "red stake" hazards it will take you a long time to play this course. So bring extra balls...I actually thought that I might run out :D
Bring your GPS
I showed up bought the course guide and off we went. The course guide offers general overview but not much specific yardage. The course has stakes for 200/150 and 100...but only one many times so determining the angle is difficult. The course is overgrown in all areas outside of fairways and greens. So you best keep ball in play or it is lost. The marsh hazards are so overgrown that unexpected blind shots occur more frequently than imagined. Paying a buck to enter the facility was also a real head scratcher...Impossible to walk here. The distances between green and tee is equal to the actual course...Really. Across the street is Jack Frost National....Better to go there. Glad I played it once.......Nuff said.
Thanks GolfNow
I will say that I got a GolfNow steep discount on a Sunday afternoon tee time, and without that discount, what the course delivered would have fallen short of expectations. Like others have said, there are some patchy spots and burnout (but it IS August) - all of which are forgivable for $35 - but maybe not for the rack rate of $65. The course offers beautiful views. I am a fairly new golfer, and the course was challenging. At the tee, you often had to decide between a bigger risk muscle shot or more accurate shorter shots. Sometimes the risky shots were rewarded with fantastic approach shot lies, sometimes not. A lot of bunkers, to which on this day, my ball was magnetically attracted (lol). A lot of doglegs and carries. Big challenging greens. Pace of play was amazing for a Sunday afternoon - I encountered TWO other golfers my entire round. Pace Cavite emptor- it was a humid 90+ degree Sunday afternoon - so the smarter golfers were all having lunch by the time I was teeing off..lol.. Well placed water jugs and portas, silent electric carts. Again, all in all a great experience for the money. I am fortunate to live in an area with so many golf courses. There is a much more popular course VERY close to this one, but I liked the no-pressure pace of play here, so for that, the generally slightly neglected conditions were forgivable.
Foot Golf
Played footgolf for the first time with two friends yesterday. Course was in pristine condition. Walked the course, we were the only souls there. Our tee time was 10am. Course overall was challenging. It was a blast. Can not beat the price of $10 on golfnow.
I would recommend to the course to put a small row boat or something by the big pond on hole 13 or 14 so when a foot golfer smacks their shot into the drink they can go in and get it.
fantastic as usual
Very nice. Challenging after the firs hole. Wish I could play more often.
NICE COURSE
I REALLY LIKED THE COURSE. AT TIMES IT WAS DIFFICULT. IT REMINDED ME OF GREEN MT. NATIONAL IN KILLINGTON VERMONT. THE GREENS ARE IN GREAT SHAPE. THIS COULD BE A GREAT COURSE IF IT WAS MANICURED A COUPLE OF TWEETS BETTER AND THE FAIRWAYS BLOWN OFF. I WOULD PLAY THIS COURSE AGAIN. I WILL COME BACK IN OCTOBER WHEN THE LEAVES CHANGE. I'M LOOKING FOWARD TO IT.
A great day and round of golf
The course a pleasure to play, not easy .
Friendly staff.
The weather was near perfect, will be going back often..
Great layout
Thought the lay out is very good & the conditions of the greens are great
I miss the old days
This course was in much better shape about five years ago before the owner gave management rights to his daughter. The fairways had lots of clippings and the greens had many dead spots. The course as a hole needs more than 3 people working the course. Nepotism at its finest.
A MUST Play Course!!!!!!
Loved it!!!! This course has a fabulous layout and was in great shape. The fairways were perfect and the greens were very smooth. After your round visit the Sunset Green Restaurant upstairs in the club house, the food is awesome and if its a nice day sit out on the patio for another great view... Can't wait to go back....
Good Almost Unplayable Course
I have played this course several times. Greens and fairways are normally good and the layout and plantings are beautiful. BUT, the course is extremely difficult to play with the preparations an amateur normally gives to a round. There are many forced carries over hazards where looking for your ball is out of the question. Even with a cart GPS, the elevation changes and out of view from the tee hazards encroaching deeply into the fairways makes the course very, very difficult. This in certain cases makes some of the holes unfair. It would take a lot to change this course to one that regularly rewards good shots and penalizes bad shots proportionally.
Given the average hacker that plays this resort course, you can expect slow play every weekend. You will be very tired at the end of 18 holes unless you do an extraordinary amount of planning for your round ahead of time.
:(
The place was great if the tees and sand was unkept. Most of the tees weren't mowed also the greens. Was not worth what the asking price to golf is
Nice course
Not a bad course. Course management a must. Grass was butchered in some areas very inconsistent greens due to dry weather. Need rain. But overall I would go back
Great challenge.
Lots of elevation changes and waist areas to hit over. Back nine was more difficult with long par 3s. It was end of season so rough was long n greens slow. Great mountain layout requiring good tee shots. Without them it gets very tough. Would like to play in season when conditions would be favorable.
course not in great shape
Read other reviews praising the course but not up to par! It's a very challenging mountain course which I don't mind, but a lot of the holes aren't maintained very well. Many divot marks are left unrepaired on the fairways and greens were very bumpy due to aeration -which we weren't told about. Many blind shots where you could use a forecasting! Staff was very friendly and food was very good.
