The Signature Hole - welcome to the 11th Tee! Photo submitted by u577723136 on 07/21/2019
Great challenging public course
One of the more challenging public courses in NEPA. Greens were aerated which made putting difficult. Great round for the money. Definitely will play again and would recommend
Well Kept, Nice Greens
Course was in real good conditions, greens were in excellent condition. Only negative was the fact that there were no distance indicators except for 100,150 and 200 yard markers. Course was not professionally mapped by Golfnow .
Great regret golf course
Very nice course. Mixes very well with the mountain side. Target golf requiring precision and strategy.
Club Selection and Accuracy are Key
First time at Split Rock, played North Course, Front 9 only. Just a few holes allowed me to tee with my driver, which I learned to my dismay on several others. Since I struggle with a bad fade, I also fed quite a few balls to the trees along the way. I found the course to be in very good shape this time of year, and look forward to returning now that I know the layout a bit better. If you don't mind a challenge to your accuracy and selection choices, I highly recommend Split Rock. $40 weekdays/ $55 weekends is pretty standard these days. Some places slightly less costly, others more so, like Jack Frost.
Great eye appeal
Course was difficult but so interesting that I did not mind loosing a few balls. Played from the white tees and about 3-4 holes including par 3's had some long carry to clear waste area or water.
Greens were slow so it helped to keep the ball on the greens when pitching up and to allow for some strong putts. Had about 7-8 pars which is a lot for me but also had some lost balls. Scored a 92 which about normal but with less lost balls .I guess the greens helped to keep the score down.
Scenic
Bring a lot of ball. It's a beautiful course. More challenging than Bethpage Black. If you don't hit them straight or at least 150, then this is not the course for you. There's a lot of wastelands to hit over and if your off the fairway & ruff then your not finding your ball. There's a lot of hills & a long distances between holes. Some long walks from the cart paths to the greens . It is a good value for the money. Buying the course booklet might be worth the $3.
Staff and bunkers need improvement
Went in to check in and woman behind the counter was talking to a customer who was a member and ignored me for about 2 minutes. Same woman who barely gave me the time of day the last time I played here last year.
This course is falling behind in condition. Bunkers had weeds and stones in them, and fairways had large clumps of cut grass from not being cut often enough.
Played the points . hardest course I,ve ever played. Used every club in my bag !!
Very Very challeging . Tight, blind shots,Side hill slope, elevated greens with break & Held in AUGUST , Many waste land approaches. Review card, Drive ahead would have helped . Played in 3 1/2 hours threesome. A must Do !! Can't believe its not in top 100 courses . Locust Valley PA. needs to be replaced with this Hidden GEM !!
I'd rather split Atoms!!!
This was my first and last time playing here! This course is made for a PRO golfer who can fade or draw shots at will. You have so many guesses as to what club to use off the tee box because of hazards in front of you. Its very narrow so if you cant fade, draw or hit straight, you are going to lose a ton of balls! I love to play but I would rather work then play this course. I wont even play it for free!!
Mountain golf
Must have a GPS to play, many holes where driver stays in the bag. No directional signs at all, major problem. Lots of hills to climb even riding a cart.
Would not pay full price for this course, check GolfNow for better price. Very pretty but must be accurate off the tee!
Not really worth it
I stayed in the Pocono ' s for a week and played the course many times.
What I liked:
* Basically deserted we play early and had the course to ourselves
*Nicely maintained and very scenic
What I didn't like:
* extremely tight, If you are not very accurate you will lose a bunch of balls for sure. Heck, my buddy is an accurate hitter and lost half a dozen
* it doesn't open until 8 on weekdays (We got there at 730 and no one was there yet) The staff that cuts the greens and puts the flags out don't even get there early. You will be waiting on a bunch of holes for them to get out of the way and they don't wear hard hats so if hitting towards unprotected people bothers you, you might not like it.
* they advertise buy one round get one free on Monday and Wednesdays but it's only on greens fees and you have to get a cart, so it's barely a discount
Overall, the course is nice and challenging but there were a bunch of little things that will make me go to Jack Frost instead next time.
Hard, but Cool
Definitely worth the time, but not exactly fun for beginners. A difficult course that requires a couple sleeves of balls. Really cool holes and awesome views. Far from a cookie-cutter course. I'm a 15-handicap, thought I played not-my-best, but not-my-worst round, and shot 96.
great course to miss balls
Very nice and hard course, bring at 1 dozen of ball golf or hit straight, ja, ja.
True maintain course
Greens and fairways were in good shape and greens not too difficult. Lots of layups and some blind shots. Would have helped to have played course before. Lovely views with long drives between holes which made it seem private. You must be accurate off tee and avoid rough. Narrow holes, so a driver can often be left in the bag. Fun course to play.
Keep the ball straight
This is a beautiful course that is well maintained. The greens roll true. You must hit fairways to score well here. If you spray the ball all over place you are going to lose alot of balls. Many holes require irons off the tee, technically you could leave your driver at home and play hybrids and irons all day.
Nice course
Typical Pocono course in that it you're not in the fairway, you're in trouble. Course is in nice shape and for $28, you can't go wrong.
Great Views, narrow landing angles
I arrived to the course and was greeted with a friendly smile. The pro in the pro shop was knowledgeable and friendly as well. The golfers I was paired up with were very helpful and familiar with the course. I found the golf course very challenging with tight landing areas. I had to hit the shot i wanted or was penalized severely. I was required to thing about all shots I was playing. I enjoy that even if it did beat me up at times. I would recommend playing this course if you can keep the ball straight. Not a course I would play everyday but enjoyable to play on a monthly basis.
Split Rock on the Fourth of July
I took my wife to experience this Pocono mountain gem. We were greeted by many scenic holes and some diversified wildlife. She was able to have many playable holes. I would recommend using the yardage books because of the elevation changes on many holes. Have discussed another round with friends already.
Mountain golf
Nice track, tough play for a first timer...once you know the layout the course would play much easier. There is more room than you think from the tee boxes. Enjoy the scenery and pack a few extra eggs.
This course challenges all your skills.
Split Rock is an excellent golf course that is well maintained. It's very undulating and scenic and anyone who plays for the first time will definitely wants to go back.
