Challenging but fun
To start this was our first of 2 rounds. We teed off at 745 after driving down from NY for 13 hours and arriving at 230am. The starter was super friendly he stood in the tee box talking to us until it was our turn to tee off. There was a ton of rain there the days before and even while we were out there we got some but the course was in great shape. The lay out was fun with the water and bunkers. The elevated greens make it super tough for a newer golfer like myself but it was a welcomed challenge. Overall we had a really fun time playing this course.
Very playable
Played Moorland in the morning and Heathland was our second 18. We had to turn in our cart, which to me is weird because we weren’t leaving the course. We found out they only have 300 carts for all three courses. That’s insanely low. We took fully advantage of their special as well. Breakfast, lunch and 2 drinks. That’s awesome
Heathland is so much more playable than Moorland. It’s still pretty wide open, but the greens are flatter and much more receptive. We were getting frustrated at the greens on Moorland so Heathland was much more fun. There’s a nice mix of short par 4s and a few long ones. No two holes are the same so you don’t really get bored. The pace of play was tough once the front and towards the end of the back, but honestly people who play resort courses should expect a 5 hour round. The conditions were great even though there’s been a ton of rain the past week and even today
Fun round
Played this one as part of our double dip. To begin, the starter was one of the nicest people o have ever met. He talked with us while we waited and gave us rec’s for other courses and local spots. This a really open course. Lots of holes have water and some narrow fairways, but really open overall. The course is in really good shape even with all the rain. The greens are smooth and really fast actually.
There’s lots of elevation changes to elevated greens. I don’t mind that, but the greens weren’t holding anything so it made it virtually impossible to keep the green. I’d also like to see them fill the bunkers with sand and not the clay that was there. We couldn’t even get the club under the ball. Overall pretty tough challenge
Nice course if you’re patient
We golfed here on our second day of a 4 day golf trip. Arrived 2 hours early to check in , hit some range balls and eat lunch before our round. Check in at the pro shop was very easy. Friendly staff got us our lunch/drink vouchers and our passes for the starter. I attempted to buy a range bucket and was told to purchase them via cash/card at the range. There is a shuttle available to the range. We didn’t see a driver in sight. They seemed to be very understaffed at the bag drop so we walked. It’s not terribly far. The credit card machine was not working and there is no one to give change. Took us some time to get that sorted out. Fast forward to lunch. Nice lunch selections. Waitress was very nice and the food came out very very fast. We walked over to the bag drop 15 minutes before our round and it was chaos. This is where my 2 stars for staff friendliness comes in. It wasn’t that they weren’t friendly. They just weren’t helpful. Apparently somehow they were out of carts. We kept being told we were the next group however carts would show up and they’d send another group off. We teed off 30 minutes late. I’m pretty patient however this 30 minutes would prove to be important considering we played hole 18 in the dark. The course conditions were good. There was a fair amount of rain the day before and it dried up pretty good. Open for the most part. I really don’t have any negatives for the conditions of the course. The pace of play was awful. We averaged waiting on the tee box 10 minutes or so every hole. No marshalls in sight after the 5th hole. Beer cart girl was very nice but never saw her after 2 o clock. We booked an afternoon round so it would be warmer but like I said before the sun went down and we played 18 in the dark so perhaps I’d have a better review if I played in the morning. If you’re patient you’ll love this course. I’m not sure how they ran out of carts but from reading reviews logistics are not the forte of this resort.
New Favorite
Do not want to be over the top but this is my new favorite course. It is a position course. that does not demand you be a boomer and will penalize you at some points if you are. It has the most elevation changes I have seen at the beach. The course was in perfect condition and the facilities at Legends are awesome. Having played most of Myrtle Beach I can honestly say your money would be well spent a Moorland You can pay a lot more and get a lot less.
Great Layout
Great Dye layout! Course was in great shape overall. Tee boxes and fairways were very good. Had about 4 greens that had winter kill but on those greens they placed the flag in good locations on the green that didn’t have winter kill. Best surprise was being quoted $75 and getting a discount due to the winter kill on the greens. Would definitely play this course again. Bonus for having coolers on the golf carts.
legends resort moorland course
i have been playing golf for 50 years and i just got back from a trip to myrtle beach with a dozen other players. i have never seen a course with 18 greens that bad before. to call them terrible is an insult to the word terrible. how a course could sell tee times to the public with greens that awful is beyond me. they ran out of green paint which they spray painted to even be able to call it a green. stay away!! after complaining they gave us rain checks. if they were worried about losing revenue now, ok they won. anyone who plays there in the next 3 months, or more will never return.....ever!! i gave it one star because 0 stars were not offered!!
Greens in bad condition
Legends' courses are usually in nice shape, however, I just played in a scramble tournament (May 12, 2018) on Moorlands and most of the greens were is poor condition. large bare areas and patchy grass spots. putting the greens was just luck... will the ball jump to the left or right, you never know. I'd recommend avoiding Moorland for a while. I don't know if there is a plan to fix the bare green problem.
Destination Golf
The Legends complex is a great base for a Myrtle Beach Vacation. Live here but refer visitors all the time. The courses are Highland type and well maintained. The practice facilities are abundent and the Ted Frick Classic Swing Academy is one of the South's best, and has a great Summer Program if you travel with kids. The location is central to Myrtle Beach. It is not an ad. This is what I tell my friends.
Great facility
Great course. Struggling from a freeze this season but amazing facility. Make sure you check out the package deals and make sure you arrive early for your tee time to take advantage of the breakfast, 2 beers, and lunch deal.
Our fave at the main Legends complex
Our buddies trip to MB includes rounds at 4 of the Legends courses (we don’t play Oyster Bay anymore) every year, and of the 3 courses at the main complex, Parkland is by far our favourite. This year the first group teed off at 1:00 in the cold and light rain. Thankfully, the rain stopped after about 4 or 5 holes so we ended up having a great day. Since the weather likely kept many off the courses, our group (16) had a great round — nobody slowing us down. As is always the case with Parkland, conditions were fantastic. But this year, winter kill has hit the greens of many, many courses in MB and the 3 courses at the main Legends complex were no exception. The consensus of the group was that Parkland suffered the least damage of the three but make no mistake — LOTS of winter kill on the greens.
Looks can be deceiving
First time playing any of Legends courses. First and foremost the free lunch was really good. Inside staff was nice and the overall design was good. That is where the positives stop. The biggest issue was the greens or lack there of. They were patchy and bare. The pace of play was unbearable. It almost took 6 hours to play 18 holes and that is not an exaggeration. And last but not least. The cart guys were extremely rude. Fussing about how much trash was left in the cart when returned (which was a couple wrappers and bottles) not trashed. I will not play at any legends courses again and will not recommend them to anyone.
Great service-NOT-course being shut down and all the greens being redone this summer. Thanks for letting our group know? No rain checks needed-won't be back!!!
One of my favorite courses of all time
Played this course again today. Last played two years ago. Course conditions were immaculate even in a torrential freezing downpour. Fairways and greens are great. Tee boxes are 4/5. Layout is challenging yet fair. Starter was extremely nice, pro shop and restaurant staff are great. Only bad part about this course is the bag drop guys are very short and rude. Be prepared to walk to practice areas because carts are not allowed there. Can't wait to play again.
Great complex
My wife and I played here and had a wonderful experience. Along with your green fee your price also includes two beers, breakfast and lunch. For the price you can’t beat this course... Heathland is wide open... I don’t think I hit a single ball in the water, which may be a first for me-haha. We had a great time and look forward to playing their other courses.
Wide Open, Breathe Easy
Thoroughly impressed with this place. Upon paying a reduced rate of 40.00, I was given a voucher for 2 drinks, breakfast & one lunch menu item. Great value.
Heathlands course is wide open, true links style. Grip it and Rip it and no need for much strategy to get around this track. Nice white sand bunkers were eye candy, the greens had been aerated weeks before, and it was noticeable, but they rolled excellent. Couple holes had trees, other than that WIDE fairways.
Would love to check out Parklands & Moorlands.
Pleasant surprise
Great challenging layout. Pete Dye design. Really enjoyed the course.
Lots of course renovations ongoing
Played Parkland as replay after having played Heathland for the morning round.
No sooner than we paid our fee and headed to tee box it started raining (again). Course was already super wet. To make matters worse, we saw a group of 6 golfers in the fairway on our first hole (#10). They were horribly slow.
Fortunately when we got to the tee box on #11, they asked if we wanted to play ahead of them. Absolutely so off we went.
Parkland is a lot of fun to play. The complex is redoing all of the bunker complexes I guess. We saw bunkers that were taken down to the bare ground and in various stages of rebuilding. Many areas have been resodded with grass. The crack in the new sod were deep so we took drops from them. Did not want to screw up their new sod anyway.
The new bunkers look nice and when they are done, the course will look really great.
Did not mention in my review of Heathland but the food at Legends is excellent.
Service in pro shop and the the restaurant is excellent. Very friend, very personable. staff.
Legends - great complex Heathland very nice
Have played all the Legends courses over my years of coming to the Myrtle Beach World Amateur.
For the most part, it has been a great experience.
We got a super deal on playing Heathland which included breakfast buffet, round of golf with cart, 2 drinks, and lunch off the menu. Super Super deal.
Cart Path Only - lot of wet fairways but course was in excellent shape. Moderate challenge and fun to play. Pretty much everything is out in front of you if you hit the ball in the right places. Their booklet they give you helps guide you around the course which is great.
The staff at Legends is friendly and helpful.
Heathland on Legends
I have played this course a number of times. Today the course was wet from the previous days rain. The greens still have pit marks from the previous weeks aeration. The course was cart path only and it was super wet. The greens were still rolling pretty good in spite of the ""Price Is Right Plinko" holes. You will have a good time on this course.
ello bob113. We apologize for your less than satisfactory experience on our course. We always strive to not only meet, but exceed our players' expectations. We are certainly taken aback by your review and a bit surprised, as most players have come off the course complimenting it. However, we would like to hear more about the specifics of your experience here. If you wouldn't mind giving us a call at 516-766-1880 at your earliest convenience, it would be greatly appreciated, as we welcome any opportunity for us to improve. We look forward to having the opportunity earning back your business.
