About Tudor Oaks Inn

The Tudor Oaks Inn in Summerville, South Carolina, is a small outpost with only three rooms named after famous golf courses in Scotland (St. Andrews), England (Sunningdale) and Ireland (Royal Dublin). It sleeps only six, but staying has its perks: Access to the golf and tennis at the adjacent semiprivate club, the Legend Oaks Golf & Tennis Club, which offers the Bistro One18 restaurant. Tudor Oaks Inn, which also has an outdoor pool, is located within 25 minutes of Charleston and near three large plantations worth touring - Middleton Place, Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, and Drayton Hall.

Horrendous Greens

Greens appear to have just been redone causing it to be lumpy, sandy, unreadable. I understand these thing get done from time to time, but it would be a courteous gesture to let the players know before purchasing the round. Everything else was great, just somewhat bitter because I felt the greens took away an opportunity to set set a new personal best score.

Poor putting surfaces

Greens are in rough shape, just put in new greens on all 18 and it shows. Fairways and tee boxes were good but putting on the greens was impossible due to the condition.

Hoping it improves because the overall layout was good and the rest of the course was in good condition.

Get what you pay for

This course is one of my favorite courses to play. The only thing that bothered me was that they were replacing all the greens so they were completely unplayable (which I understand) but they were still charging full price for a round of golf. I don't think that's very fair. Other than the greens the course was in perfect shape.

Putting on Sand. Uneven Greens

Usually when a golf course replaces all of their putting greens, they close the facility or notify the customers. Putting on sandy uneven greens takes the fun out of playing golf.

When people call they are told. If booked on golfnow we cant tell you but the reviews are there. They will be real nice in a few weeks.

WARNING under construction

The fairways and tee boxes were decent but they failed to mention that they JUST re-sodded the greens, making putting a JOKE. We knew the back nine was closed for "renovation" but were not informed of the condition of the greens...Very disappointing. Once they get their act together, the course should be better than ever. Why they waited so late to reconstruct the course, I do not no. Until then," GO PLAY" somewhere else.

Course not playable + staff rude

We purchased a later tee time for 18 holes. We were not told until we arrived that a) only the front 9 was open due to maintenence; and b) the front 9's greens were being completely re-sodded. The overall effect was similar to putting on strips of loosely put together remnant carpeting. Then, to add insult to injury, a maintenance kid zoomed by us on the 7th fairway and proceeded to remove all the remaining flags! We had to finish 7 and play 8 and 9 with no flags. This course was unplayable. Pulling the flags was extremely rude. Our money was as much stolen as it was paid. Never again. Buyer beware!

Course conditions

I wish their situation was a little more transparent. I usually like the course but went with only one 9 in play and the greens redone. Course is really not suitable for anything serious. I really like the course but it's been a tough winter and greens are in need of 6 months of no play. I hope it comes back but really noticed that cart paths are quite out of shape. Wishing the course the best of luck- I would rather see it take a break and come back stronger rather than push through the spring. Staff is very nice and gave us a free greens fee for later this year.

This course does not drain well

The course was too wet to enjoy. I used to play it a lot. Now I rarely do. Front 9 was closed while re-building the greens. Back 9 greens need to be re-built next. There are water hazards on nearly every hole. Even so, the fairways and greens were way to wet.

Terrible Conditions

I live in a condo on Legend Oaks property so I have the opportunity to play this course a lot. The staff is always nice and clubhouse is well kept. However, since October the course has been in terrible shape, especially the greens. Currently, the greens are mostly just dirt sprayed to look green. Putting is useless as you cant get consistent speed or a read on any of them. The fairways are getting back to a point that I would consider playable but all the precipitation lately has left the course very muddy and wet. We were restricted to the cart paths today (understandably) and it made the course annoying to play as we had to park and walk through puddles to get to our ball. Back in October, I was told by the staff that they were working to get the course back into better shape but it still looks the same or worse as it did back in mid October. For the same price you can play Wescott or Crowfield and they are both pristine and have much better drainage. Matter of fact, if you play during the week, you can get a $25 tee time on Golfnow most days. We paid $39 to play Legend Oaks, which at this point, is nowhere near worth it.

Slow Play

The pace of play was way too slow. There were folks in front of us complaining and the 2 groups in front of them were way too slow. We did not bother with the back 9 but played the front twice.

Greens are important...arent they?

I love the layout of the course. BUT...the greens are always an issue there. Whether its summer or winter they seem to struggle with the greens. Several of the greens were dirt painted green this time around. Dig 'em up....reseed...start over with one of the new hybrid bermudas! Great course but poor greens!

Greens need attention

The course is well maintained as far as the fairways, sand traps and tee boxes go but the greens are really in bad conditions right now. Maybe by mid December they will be better.

Greens required attention.

Based on the typical green fees(overpriced), I expected more from the course with the greens being in poor condition. It has been several years since I played this course and with all the new houses built the back nine has lost its character as well. They greens were over-watered and some greens were a mix of grasses that made putting inconsistent on every green.

Nice course overall - poor staff management

Unfortunately, they put out a shotgun start of a member-member tournament right in front of us after 14 holes. It took over 1.5 hours to play the last 4 holes.

They just don't have the staff to maintain it properly

I live on Wescott and the wife and myself are members there. I have played Legends about 5 or 6 times now and this was the first time the fairways were in good shape. (not wet) But it was tough to be consistent putting on the greens as each one had a different speed to them. The grass was long and laying down which made it hard to read. The tee boxes needed attention also. I won't be playing there again unless we have some visitors staying with us and they want to try the GPS's on the cart. (which is a very nice feature)
