Barony course Photo submitted by JIMMYLAW77 on 01/10/2018
Amazing!
The course was beautiful and well-manicured. They had water machines with cups and ice at frequent stops on the course. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I will definitely be coming back.
Disappointed in Fee.
I arranged a time through Golf Now, I had previous experience with scheduling for this course I play every year on vacation. It is an arrangement between our timeshare and the course for a discounted
fee. Because I used Golf Now, they would not recognize the timeshare discount. I do not think this was right. I used Golf Now to gain access to a greater variety of tee times because they keep the tee times for our timeshare group for later in the heat of the day.
Price was not right
My only disappointment came when checking in. Even though our timeshare agreement, has this course as a it feature with low greens fee, We were charged full price because we used Golf Now. I used GN to ensure an early morning tee time. Had I waited for the timeshare schedule of available tee times we would have had to play in a 112 degree real feel temp. I do not think it fair I was charged full price, even though i had proof of our timeshare discount. So I was penalized for using Golf Now to arrange a time.
Got Stung by a Hive of Yellow Jackets
The course was in decent condition and everything fine enough until the third hole when I hit a beautiful tee shot that went 250ish right down the middle and so good it landed in the leaves and pine needles across the cart path.
Turns out it was close enough to a yellow jacket nest that as I'm standing over my ball with a five iron I start getting stung ultimately only five stings but dropped my club and got me on the run. My wife and kids are there playing with me and we all look over at my club lying there which has probably 200 yellow jackets swarming around it at this point and my ankle and legs with stings that feel like I just got hit with a golf club. So, my wife called the clubhouse from the phone number on the cart and asked to send someone out immediately to get me some first aid and help get the club. The person was extremely unprofessional and rude, had no clue what to do and said nothing he could do about it - said there was no one working there at that moment to help out. We were in disbelief. So, I called and again he said nothing he could do about it - didn't even say to keep moving forward (as there were groups behind us) and someone would be out there shortly to collect the club and bring it to us. Just simply said, not a thing in the world they could do about it and basically tough luck. So, we kept playing and three holes later the ranger(Jay) comes along with my club and the ball and was highly professional and excellent customer service - super nice and apologetic about the whole thing, asked me what kind of first aid I needed and went and got some hydrocortisone and ibuprofen to help out. We finished our round and that was that.
Hilton Head has a lot of wildlife(alligators, snakes, etc) on golf courses and if the front desk staff doesn't know what to do or who to call(no standard operating procedures in place), I don't want to be there. We played the Fazio course at palmetto dunes the next day and everything went great from start to finish - course was in great condition and everyone decent and professional.
Great Golf course. Well manucured and very forgiving conditions for a beginner golfer. But challenging for the avid golfer as well.
Could be better
Played the course in the afternoon with 2 other guys. Starter/bag guy was just there to take tips. Golf shop staff was great and explained the beverage cart was gone for the day, which I get when they’re slow. Layout is great but conditions were not. Thin, disease, and slow greens. Irrigation started when we had four holes to play. Couldn’t finish the round and still had 2 hours of daylight.
Great Day at Robber's Row
Today was my first time playing at Port Royal Robber's Row. I dropped my bag off and it was loaded onto the cart for me. I went into the nice club house to pay. It was nice to hear that range balls were included in the price of the round. The started directed me to the nice range. There was also a nice putting green and a short game area. The started told me to be back 8 minutes before my tee time.
The ride from the starter to the first tee is kind of far but it was not a problem to find. The course was in good shape except for a few of the greens on the back 9. They had a dead spots on the end of the green.
The greens are small. The pace of play was rather slow on the front 9. It was much better on the back 9 thanks to the slow moving group only playing 9 holes. Total time was 4 hours 10 minutes. The front 9 was 2.5 hours!
I would definitely play here again.
amazingly surprisingly good
we were not expecting much and played some great HHI courses all week and this was was in better condition than Trent Jones and $75 less. pace was awesome as well. will be back!
Struggling at Tees & Greens
Tee boxes and greens had crabgrass and needed some TLC. Good track for a ball striker with well protected bunkered greens. Played in 3:30 with 1 4 some letting us through and 2 some come up onus from nowhere letting them through. Heritage needs to do better at Barony at these rates.
