Barony course Photo submitted by JIMMYLAW77 on 01/10/2018
Tired course
While we had a fun day, we found the course in need of considerable maintenance. The fairways were horrible. The layout was fun, but the not what we expected on Hilton Head.
Definite recommendation
Beautiful day, course condition was great, greens quick & rolled true. Staff was very friendly, pace of play wonderful at 3:50.
Very interesting layout.
Plenty of challenges and dog legs. Bunkers greens and fairways in great shape. Im a 23 handicapper but made it around ok. Very accommodating staff.
Fantastic
Great experience all around. Course was in great shape
Challenging course
Big bunkers gaurding every green, tight avenues of approach made this course extremely fun
Barony - Very Small Greens
This was a very changeling course due to the number of sand traps around the greens and the size of the greens them self. Some of my approach shots were good but they found the edges of the greens and some sand traps. I was able to record 25 putts for the 18 holes played due to some great chipping and use of the putter.
Overall the course was in transition and some of the fairways were in need of some grass. Overall I would recommend this course if you want a good changeling course.
Water me...
There are a lot of great things about this course, including the location, layout, pro shop staff, and clubhouse. Unfortunately, the condition of the course was really bad. We have played other courses on the island, and have not experienced this problem. This is truly a problem with Barony. They also need a marshall to assist with pace of play.
Website review
I needed to change my reservation. My mistake. I could not find another time that would accommodate my group. No way to cancel online. So I called the number on the website. It was just after 5:00 pm. Recording said to call back after 8:00 am the next day. That put me past the 72 hour period to cancel. Therefore I could not cancel. So I forfeited the money I paid.
My bad. I knew the rules. But 72 hours is a bit strict. I will never use this website again and I will tell my friends the same thing.
If the website had a better design or 24 hour customer support this would not have happened. Interestingly, they could have actually made more money. My issue was I had a tee time for a foursome. I actually needed two tee times for two threesomes. Since customer support was unavailable. I booked my two threesomes for a different course directly from the course.
So they missed an opportunity for another sale and now I ( and my friends) will never use this site again.
It is unfortunate that there is no way to rate this website. The link I was sent was only to rate the course. So I apologize to the course for a poor rating but maybe that will encourage them to find a better service for booking tee times.
Needs more staff.
Disappointed as the pace of play was very slow.
2 groups of young men in front of us. Had to wait 5-15 min on each hole. No marshall in site to get them to speed up.
Took 4.5 hours to finish and not because of us.
Fairways greens on front brown and hard needed watering badly
Back nine was better
Cheated
I am an HHI resident who brought three guests from out of State, with the intent of purchasing three 3 day passes for the Heritage Courses and paying a resident fee for myself. Shipyard and Oyster Reef honored that, but Port Royal did not. I made the reservation for a foursome "on line" a month in advance. In the meantime, one of my party required an ankle operation but wanted to attend with my group anyway, but not play. I purchased the 3 day passes on day 1 (4/18) at Shipyard. Shipyard charged me an $18.00 ridealong fee for the injured party, and charged me a resident fee which I expected and which was fair..
When I arrived at Port Royal, the man in the pro-shop had a problem with your computer system and could not complete checking me in. So he called in the femail manager who completed checking us in. However, when she found that I had made the reservation MORE THAN 7 DAYS ago, she charge me your RAck Rate of $170 for myself, as well as a $35 rider fee for my injured friend. She accepted the 3 day passes for my other two friends.
Today, at Oyster Reef, we four checked in, knowing that Oyster Reef was going to fill out our party with a fourth golfer. However, when he checked in, they gave him a separate cart. So, we had the party of four, (with one not playing) in two carts and the fourth golfer was in a separate cart. My injured friend as not assessed a cart fee.
My point in telling you this is twofold:
1) Why don't all of the Heritage courses follow the same rules, especially with the multi day packages your corporation offers.
2) Your pro shop desk people need a little more training as well as a little more courtesy. After all, I brought out of state business to your course, and then I had to pay a penalty of $170 vs 75 + or _ to do that.
Robbers Row is what we played, and I was treated like the Robber.
Beautiful Course and in Great Condition
Robber's Row is one of my favorite courses in HHI. It's beautiful and in great condition. The check in and starter processes were easy and we were able to start our round without any wait. Overall gorgeous day and pace of play was not an issue. Can't wait to play there again.
Slow pace of play
I like course. I liked the value. Fairways could use more water (aka grass). The only downside is pace of play. Too many slow golfers not following golf etiquette (I.e; ready golf, pick up on double par, don’t putt 3 footers unless for a par or bird). Need rangers to enforce pace.
