Harbor Course
Professional staff. Nice layout but fairways were a little thin or bare in some areas.
Breathtaking Views
Absolutely loved the course...we were on vacation and played with my son, daughter and son-in-law. We had a blast, the wind wreaked havok on my game 10-18, but was impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the course overall. Will definitely play again.
Tight Fairways and small greens
First time playing and trip to the Grand Dunes Resort
Course not well sign posted from security hut and issued map is not detailed enough,. Disappointing that the range was closed with no prior warning.
Course was in good condition on the fairways. Greens were a little sandy and signs they had been punched a shot time ago but still ran true.
Greens are tiny and a real enjoyable challenge.
When we arrived we found no carts were available and only got a cart 10 minutes before tee time. which with the range closed didn't pose an issue just not ideal.
Pace of Place became an issue, we were a four ball following a 4 ball grouping of two pairs. once out of sight of the starter the group in front split in to two groups. this just then caused a back log.
overall out a great day out just a few snags, the views and general layout make it easy on the eye and paper over a lot of cracks. would return for the same price but anything more than $60 i would consider excessive
Enjoyable Round on Interesting Course
The first thing to know is that even from its longest tees, the course in a little less than 6400 yards, so if you are a long hitting single digit player, it may not be the distance test you are looking for. There are three shorter tee boxes, so if distance is not what you need, you should find something that suits you.
The course was in good shape when we played it. The fairways were nice; the greens are a maybe a little thin, and maybe a little slow, but they do still roll pretty true.
The course has a lot of interesting holes. Both long and short par 3's. Some short par 4's that are still a test. It starts with its 3 and 5 handicap holes, and ends with 2 and 4, so a tough start and finish.
The scenery is great - a wonderful trip through the marsh. There are pretty good distances between holes (including a half mile between 4 and 5) that might make walking less than perfectly enjoyable.
One thing to note - no driving range here. Its over at the Links course, so go there to warm up before coming to play here.
Overall a good value for the $60 a person we paid to play on a Tuesday afternoon.
Fairways Need Work
There were many bare patches on fairways add near greens plus everything was aerated. I felt there should have been a fees discount given course conditions. The greens were in very good shape.
Small greens so take dead aim
Tough if you’re wild off the tee. Breezy so you have to take it into account.
Greens were small but were in great shape.
Fairways are tight. Would like to have a map of the holes that have distances from the tee to know lines off the tees to hit.
Links
Pace of play was slow, and a they are about to lose a few of the fairways. Tee boxes and greens are fine. Pretty lay out. Worth it if you can find a deal tee time.
Average course
The course layout is OK, but the condition left something to be desired. Not as green as I had expected for a resort course. The snack bar was slow and very slow to get our food out - waited 25 mins for a hot dog!! The carts should have a GPS system - even my home course has that!!
Seed your grass!!!!
Based on what I heard from the staff, the owner of the courses (Hyatt?) did not want to over seed the grass in the past year because it didn't want to spend the money. While the course is actually really fun and challenging, the grass conditions were an embarrassment. Also, you need to provide better signage for finding the pro shop as it is buried behind other buildings.
Challenging course
I would definitely recommend this course. I played it for the first time today and found the layout interesting. Lots of water holes and the greens are small. Water hazards are definitely in play if you miss the green left or right.
Some of the fairways are tight favoring those who are comfortable teeing off with a three wood. The on shore breeze was also in play on most of the holes.
I would definitely come back.
Wild Dunes Harbor course
The layout was nice very narrow and a lot of water. Hit straight and you can score well. Greens were fast on the front but the back was a little inconsistent. Over all I would play again
