Harbor at Wild Dunes Golf Links

About
Wild Dunes Harbor Course, designed by Tom Fazio, is said to be cut from some of the prettiest real estate in South Carolina. Water makes up a great deal of the Harbor Course layout. After all, half the course runs along the world’s longest water hazard, The Intracoastal Waterway. Fazio claims the Harbor Course to be one of his favorites. "Working on the Harbor Course was very satisfying to me as a designer because we had to create everything. It was a very challenging, and ultimately, a very satisfying project."

Enjoyable Round but Rather Peculiar Track
Mother Nature dialed up an unexpectedly good weather forecast for mid January so friend and I decided to take advantage. Got a choice time with no issues and a really good off season rate. Was an enjoyable all around day with a brisk pace of play. Conditions were fine for this time of year. Greens above average. The scenery and views are outstanding. The course is a challenge. Has some of the skinniest fairways we’ve ever played and some have OB on one side water on the other. Even slightly errant shot on those holes is a guaranteed penalty stroke. A handful of greens are so small you’d think you were on an executive or par 3 course. Not sure if I’d play here at rack rate, mainly because if your game is off at all you’re going to get exposed. There’s just not much forgiveness to be had.
aWeSoMe!!!
I’ve played this course at least 15 times. The scenery would make an artist green with envy.
Tough? Yes, it is. I’d recommend any new player to NOT try and over power it, smaller bites work a lot better.
They’re are a couple par 4’s I play as par 5’s. (#4 & 17)
For January the greens were in great shape.
Five stars
Tedd
Handicap 14
Thanks
Course has a few big gaps between tee boxes which I don’t like and has a few blind tee shots from back tees. Overall has some good golf holes on it.. Par 3 and fives are playable with a couple tough par fours.. greens were a 8-10 for January.
Great times
Nice course. Tough driving holes but beautiful layout. I would play it again.
Difficult, beautiful, fun
This course was one of the harder courses I’ve ever played, but it was really pretty, and I have a great time.
Great Round Of Golf
We enjoyed our round! Course was in excellent condition!
Nice course, very fair layout, must keep your ball in fsirway. Will return
This place stinks
Joke of a course. Fairways are too narrow. No room for error anywhere. Greens are smaller than a poster card and slow. Layout is crap. Back 9 is better than the front but that’s not saying much. No way should people pay $80+ for this course. Go elsewhere.
Great course
Beautiful course in great condition. Really confusing getting to 5th and 14th Holes though. Maybe marks little better? Also, course could use more yardage markers. Loved the course otherwise.
Bring at least 24 balls.
This course has the most narrow fairways I have ever played in my life, and I have played some countries in USA and internationally, but what makes it so complicated is that the roughs are to 80% out of bounds where you will not be able to find your ball (water hazards, swamp or Ocean). I lost 9 balls and I usually finish with my 1st ball, maybe lose 1-2 on a bad day or difficult course. So be prepared. We saw an alligator. On another note, the greens are small and extremely extremely slow, which I disliked.
I will play again just for the challenge of not losing 9 balls!
Poor greens/ bad value for price tag
I was really disappointed in the course. The greens were more than shaggy- in some cases patches of 1” growth stuck out with a different type of grass...and not uniform in length, which meant had to roll though higher length patches on the greens on longer putts. Probably rolled at a 7 on a stimpmeter but even slower in the morning with the dew still on the grass. The tee boxes were also in poor condition and uncut. Cut the greens please.
The fairways are very narrow and lost balls are pretty common if you don’t hit it perfectly straight. For the price tag I expected much much more. Didn’t see any driving ranges to warm up either...maybe I missed it.
Bummed I picked this course on the one day I was able to play on vacation. I thought at $120 it would be a much nicer course.
