The picture of Texas Golf
Beautiful golf course and former site of the Texas Open. I played the sister Palmer Course the day before, and I found that course to be a step above. Challenging layout, if you aren’t in the fairway prepare to take a penalty. The greens were replaced within the last year and were sand packed leading to inconsistent speed and bumpiness issues. Unfortunately, I got paired up with a group that liked to re-hit every shot leading to a 5.5 hour round. I would play again but likely choose the Palmer Course if I had to pick one.
Excellent Course
Played her last week for 3 days and absolutely loved it. So much better than the Palmer course, which I would totally avoid. I stayed at the JW Marriott, which wanted $225 to play the courses in 100 degree heat. I've played them both several times, not worth it.
La Cantera Resort has lots of elevation (I walk all the courses i play, this is probably one of the toughest walks). The layout was really interesting, but in a good way. The course is in front of you, so no hidden or blind shots. A really great course.
The restaurant (254) was outstanding, the food was great and the beer selection is the best I've seen at a golf course.
Challenging layout with epic views!
The Resort Course is a test of all aspects of your golf game. Some holes are great for “bombers” of the tee while other holes require precise yardage off the tee to set up your approach to the green. The elevated greens will test your iron game adding a little pressure to your short game, getting up and down around the greens. The marshals do a great job with pace of play and the rest of the course staff was very professional and courteous. La Cantera also provides plenty of variety for your 19th hole happy hour and dinning pleasure.

A real treat
All parts of the course are in great shape from tee to green. The layout is challenging with plenty of risk-reward opportunities for skilled and recreational level as well. Practice facilities, pro shop, staff and the 19th hole were all top-shelf. Excellent value and a real treat, especially in this part of summer when many courses struggle with conditions.
Slow play
The Marshall allowed me to get behind a tournament where players were playing for $$$$. After 30 minutes and one hole completed I called to complain. They did allow me to move to the back nine. No course should allow 6 hour rounds and a tournament like this without closing the course.
Great course layout
I loved the layout, greens were really fast and very challenging. I used almost every club in my bag and I loved it. 100% recommend this course.
Love La Cantera
I always love playing La Cantera when I'm in the San Antonio area. Never disappointed.
La Cantera Delivers
The resort course at the La Cantera delivers a thrilling roller coaster of golf. We played on a HOT Sunday, but the course has tons of shade in places to keep cool. They also give nice scented ice cold towels to wet yourself which are a great touch! Course was in great condition. The greens were a little hard but in 100 degree weather that’s understandable. Just go play. Enjoy the scenic holes!
La cantera resort
La cantera is challenging for all players of any skill level. We had a horrendous downpour and the course held up under these conditions. The greens still rolled true. I got a $45 rate I cannot justify paying more for green fees unless it’s a TPC or pebble, spyglass etc. great value and service thanks to the staff for being very accommodating.
Hill Country Resort
Very nice resort course with teeth. Well maintained, attentive staff nice views
Hill Country Golf
The Resort course is a nice version of Hill country golf. Many holes have some major elevation changes and for visitors this is a great “views” and “awe” course. The La Cantera provides some of the best conditioning around town short of the TPC so always expect a nice round of golf. Unfortunately, my foursome were stuck behind a twosome of beginner golfers and our round lasted 4:45. Great course, great track. Go play, enjoy the roller coaster ride.
