La Cantera Resort

First I want to say that the course is extremely nice. Great fast greens and views. Now for the worst part, the pace of play. For the first 12 holes our group was on pace for a 4 hour round, very nice, then the slow down. The rangers on the course had now allowed a group of 8 to play. 2 foursomes playing in the tail end of a tournament became a group of 8. I called the pro shop and informed them. They could have cared less. All they said was "well, we had a tournament today". I know you had a tournament today, there is a group of 8 slowing up every group behind them. "We will call the Rangers to check on it". I told them there was a ranger standing next to me, here, talk to him. "No, we will call them on the walkie-talkie". I asked the ranger, why are you allowing a group of 8 to play. His response..."the other ranger told me it was okay". WHAT!! IT WAS OKAY TO HAVE A GROUP OF 8 PLAYING AND SLOWING EVERYBODY DOWN!! "The other ranger said it was okay". It took almost 2 hours to play the final 6 hours! This showed the head pro and his staff's lack of attention and their apathy to make sure the golf experience on the course is a good one. If you play here, call in advance, if there is a tournament, avoid this course like the plague. They could care less how slow the pace of play is and that you have a pleasurable round of golf. The best staff member was the starter named Jack, from New York, he was very good.

Beautiful course. I had the unfortunate tee time behind a very slow group due to a tournament. I would rate this course as average. It was oksu, but not fun due to the tournament.

We were able to get a hot deal through golf now and only paid $42 for the round so a great deal for this caliber of course. There were so many scenic views, at times, I forgot we were playing golf. The holes were challenging, but playable. I would certainly play here again and agian. :-)

Booked this tee time about 2 hours in advance through GolfNow. The course "as always" was in wonderful conditions. The staff were courteous and professional and got us right out with no hassle. This course is one of several gems in San Antonio (it used to host the Valero Texas Open) that a golfer can always depend on good playing conditions. This was my first time using GolfNow and from these results will more than likely use them again. Thanks again to the staff at La Canterra and GolfNow.

I played the resort course twice. The first day I was all over the place, falling into some of the courses traps. The second day I was 12 strokes better. The staff was great - I bought some merchandise from the club house, and they volunteered to keep ahold of it until for me so I don't mess it up on the course. Sensible. Of course I left the course and completely forgot about the purchases waiting for me in the club house. I called the pro shop after I left the hotel, and they said they would mail my package free of charge. This place is just fantastic...

First time my husband and I played here. We heard a lot about courses at LaCantera and wanted to try them. We found good deal on GolfNow. Course was in excellent condition for a hot summer day. Good variety of course topography and green challenges. Pace of play was great after we separated from 2 singles paired up with us and one of those guys thought he was on the tour and didn't observe ready golf protocol, really slowing us down for the first 4 holes. The only negative thing I would say is that paying full price here is not worth it. I equate this course with other local courses like Hyatt, Cedar Creek and the Quarry where prices are lower.

the course was in great shape staff very friendly but the only thing I didn't like about it is they have no snacks or anything to eat at the bar after 3 p.m. I was not asking for a steak or lobster just a hot dog or nachos heck even a bag of chips would have been nice there 15 other people at the bar that agreed with me. The other golf courses offer food at the bar. And for being a resort they have very small TV's in the bar and way up in the corners you have to twist your body around just to see some sports on there very disappointed with the 19th hole.Dont think I will be going to the bar and grill at the course again La Cantera mall is right across the street with plenty of places to go have a drink and just have a snack.

My friends and I had a great time....I would recommend playing there if you haven't done so

Great deal, nice to play different golf courses, everything was perfect.

There was some construction but the course was beautiful. Price was reasonable on Golf Now. Our group was glad we played the course and look forward to being able to return. It is a course that you need to know to score well. Some of the trouble is closer or further than you think.

The course was in very good condition. Greens were fast and true. The fairways and traps were excellent for this time of year( hot and dry). The only drawback is the noise generated from the ongoing construction at the hotel.

La Cantera Resort Course is loaded with great views and a good staff. Bag drop staff is friendly, starters and marshals are helpful and nice. Cart/Beverage girls are around every few holes to keep you refreshed. I just have one bit of advice; DO NOT HIT IT IN THE ROUGH. The Bermuda grass is about 3-4" deep and you cannot find your ball. A resort course should have much shorter and more manageable rough to make the round more enjoyable. The greens and tee boxes are fantastic. Fairways have some burn spots but I'm just nitpicking now. Overall good course. Did I mention not to hit it in the rough?

This is the first time I played La Cantera and was very disappointed with the conditions. I figured(incorrectly) that two weeks after the greens being sanded; that the greens would be pretty decent. Sadly they were not. They were very inconsistent and it made the short game almost impossible. The Tee boxes and fairways were very good although we ran into a lot of muddy and over watered areas, which was odd considering how dry it's been. The rough might have been the thickest I have ever played. We had trouble finding balls a foot off the fairway. It made for a very difficult and unpleasant golf experience. I will have trouble convincing
Myself to want to play here again. The views on this course are second to none but the conditions make it Muni-like!

Course had just been aerated (we knew about it) and greens were slow for their standards, but unpredictable and not "true" when it came down to hold the line.
Another issue was that Cantera charged me the full fee and didn't want to discout the $9.96 paid thru Golfnow.com. Same thing happened last week at Northern Hills Golf Course. I need to figure out how to get my money back

Breathtaking views, first class treatment and an incredible course!

A lot more challenging than you would expect from a resort course. Fairways are tight and too far one direction or another and it's a lost ball, so bring spares. Greens are large but they do have a few tough pin placement. Lot's of elevation changes and even more views.

Very friendly and helpful staff gave first class reception. Course was in excellent shape. Price from GolfNow was right so I treated myself to a great day of golf. Only issue was that all the par 3s were about the same length. Could've stood a little variation there. Will definitely go back again.

First time playing at the Resort course. Arrived 30 minutes before tee time, was greeted properly at the bag drop, had a chance to check out the pro shop, decided to do my usual warm up out at the range while I leisurely enjoyed some good old country tunes they had on that morning, hit the first hole (under construction) and the day went just as planned. Fairways were very easy to stay on in my opinion, but if you catch yourself in the rough you could be in a bit of trouble due to the thickness of the grass. Greens played fast but not over the top. Majority of the holes were easy to get through. I loved the design of the course and you can't beat the views. Definitely would come back again, but hoping for cheaper prices on the drinks!

What a great Father's Day with my son. Since my sine is a small business owner, he rarely has the opportunity to get away for a round of golf but Father's Day is a ritual for us. Although I'm an avid golfer and have played most all the courses in San Antonio both public and private, this was my first time on the La Cantera Resort course. There was high chance of rain all day with some severe storms possible. We rolled the dice and headed out to the first tee. With all the rain we have had, the course was plush and beautiful. We had light drizzle throughout the day with a couple of heavy spurts but it actually made for a very comfortable day. Beautiful views from elevated tee boxes, very generous fairways for a past PGA Tour course but still enough challenges for lower handicap players while making it a great experience for higher handicappers. This is my new favorite course in San Antonio. Great course, great staff service= Great round of golf.
