Moody Gardens
About Moody Gardens
Moody Gardens is a large resort and attraction area with a hotel, conference center and 18 holes of golf in the coastal town of Galveston, Texas. It is well known for its three pyramids home to an aquarium and rain forest attractions. It has not only an onsite waterpark but is next to Schlitterbahn as well. There are six dining concepts, as well as a spa and fitness center. It's within easy access to historic downtown Galveston, Pleasure Pier and the beaches. The golf course originally opened in 1989 but was totally redesigned by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy in 2008. This watery layout features scenic views of the gulf, bridges and bayous, and the back nine plays alongside the small Galveston airport. The course is links-inspired with gulf breezes and wall-to-wall paspalum turf. Historic Galveston is less than an hour's drive from downtown Houston, making Moody Gardens a popular day trip destination as well as for weekend vacation getaways.Facts

Pure pleasure
The course is in excellent condition and the greens are like carpet.
A lovley, windy day
The course was calling my name and I came a running. For a cold, windy Saturday it was a lovely sunny day to hit the links. Tee to green the course was in pristine shape. There are five tee boxes to choose from and that makes a difference when the winds are howling. It was a two club wind and I was able to use a club in the bag. The greens are true and clean and the bunkers are a many that protect the large greens. The fairways are well marked with yardage and wide enough to forgive that hook or slice. The front and back are very different as the back nine are almost on an island unto itself. On the back nine, four holes go south and four go north with the ninth and eighteenth greens protected by water in the front. A fun, windy course that will give you your monies worth.
Fairways and green were in great shape. Definitely worth the drive to play the course especially in the fall
Golf
My wife and I enjoyed playing this course and will play it twice before we leave.
Great conditions - great day.
The course was in fabulous condition. Greens were as good as I have ever seen them and they would be rated perfect by most anyone. Staff is friendly as always. Great day.
One of the best in the area
Granted, I haven't played a bunch of courses in the Houston area (yet) but of the ones I've played this course is at or near the top of the list. I was hoping the breeze would stay calm enough but I get the impression that rarely ever happens. While that made the course tougher to play it does help with the heat.
Great day at Moody
Course was in great condition. Likely the best in Houston area after Hurricane Harvey.
Super Public Track
Amazing conditions. This golf course is better than any private course in Galveston County.
Excellent Condition
Greens could be faster. Very nice and beautiful golf course indeed.
Beautiful course
The course was in great condition and has several holes that are scenic to take a photo.
Nice Round of 18 on a Sunny Day
There are plenty of obstacles to overcome here, but try not to think about all the water, scrub, sand traps, and wind you need to deal with. Oh yes -one more thing: Competition for food is feirce with grackles, so look out!!! There are very few weeds out here, just nice green grass everywhere. I like that!
Best greens in Houston
One of the best rolling greens in Houston. Putts roll great and the course is in great shape. This course plays pretty long and the winds is fun and challenging.
Great day , even better deal !
Thirsty Thursday grabbed a hot deal on golfnow.com for a 7:50 am tee time for $18 after tax and fees the total was $22 . The course from all the past rain was the best I've ever seen it and highly recommend this place to play for anyone who enjoys a quality course.
Excellent Course
Moody is always in perfect shape! Staff friendliness is a plus.
Great Course
Great course in great shape...best I've seen it. Staff was very friendly. Marshall came around a few times. Asked my opinion of course, pace of play, etc. Honestly seemed interested in my opinion. Great price online.
MOSQUITOES!!!!!!!! AAAAGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!
Ask about the mosquitoes before booking. I never experienced them like this at this course before or ANYWHERE for that matter. We showed up only to find out when we were asked in the pro shop whether we had bug spray at which time he told us he had tried to play the day before but quit after 4 holes because the mosquitoes were so bad. We thought if the winds were strong enough, the mosquitoes wouldn't be able to fly in it. Unfortunately, the wind never got much over 10 mph, so it didn't help much. At times, we swarmed by way more than 50 at a time. Bug spray helped some. If you can play when the mosquitoes are gone or under control, the course conditions were excellent. The greens could use cutting a little shorter or rolled to make them a little faster, but they rolled true and were spotless of imperfections. The fairways also were lush, full and nearly as flawless as the greens. The course layout is challenging, but enjoyable, and with 5 sets of tees, you can choose a challenge suitable to your game. The forward tees are especially helpful for short hitters. Its nice to see a course which actually has forward tees FORWARD. I highly recommend the course in the mosquito "off season." BTW it frequently is windy on this course which makes it much more challenging.
Holes in greens
Apparently they have aerated this course recently and the sand at the greens washed out.The ball looks like it's going down the plinko game on the price is right. There is no way you were going to get a true reading or roll on the greens. The locals told us that it takes five weeks for the holes to heal in the green at this course.. Also the sand traps are lacking sand very pan hard. The greenskeeper needs to do a better job, more sand on the greens so they can heal quicker would be nice. This course is a mile from the beach why not get some sand and fill in the bunkers?
This could be a great course if they would just put in some time and effort.
