Moody Gardens
About Moody Gardens
Moody Gardens is a large resort and attraction area with a hotel, conference center and 18 holes of golf in the coastal town of Galveston, Texas. It is well known for its three pyramids home to an aquarium and rain forest attractions. It has not only an onsite waterpark but is next to Schlitterbahn as well. There are six dining concepts, as well as a spa and fitness center. It's within easy access to historic downtown Galveston, Pleasure Pier and the beaches. The golf course originally opened in 1989 but was totally redesigned by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy in 2008. This watery layout features scenic views of the gulf, bridges and bayous, and the back nine plays alongside the small Galveston airport. The course is links-inspired with gulf breezes and wall-to-wall paspalum turf. Historic Galveston is less than an hour's drive from downtown Houston, making Moody Gardens a popular day trip destination as well as for weekend vacation getaways.Facts

Great Course
As always the course was in great shape, even in the middle of "winter". The greens were rolling fast and true. Love the layout, it has several risk/reward opportunities along with some tough solid holes. Staff was great as always, pace of play was good as well. We finished in under 4 hours, even with 5 foursomes teeing off before us.
Great Hot Deal
I enjoyed the course. It had some interesting holes. Generous fairways. Only the worst shots were in danger of going into the plentiful water. The traps were in excellent shape. A few holes played a little long for me with average drives of about 215. I had to lay up to hazard with 2nd shot on a few par 4 holes, or had a long carry. Played alone in 3 1/2 hrs and hit lots of practice shots. Only let 1 group through
Fun and challenging
Super friendly Pro Shop staff. The practice area and driving range was in great condition. The course layout was interesting to play and made me think about quite a few of the shots before I hit them. The backside is a little tighter than the front and you may need to bring a few extra golf balls. I look forward to playing the course again!
This course is worth the trip
Came from Conroe to play this course and it was worth the trip. Moody Gardens will make you use every club in your bag. Wind can be a big factor so you need to use your imagination with many shots. Paspalum grass is different than most of the grass we play.
Outstanding greens and fairways
Course conditions were about as perfect as they could be. Brings lots of balls, water along every fairway.
Good value for well kept up course
Course is challenging, especially the back 9. It was kept in great condition. Fairways were like carpet and greens rolled true.
Great time
Can't blame the course on the unusually high winds conditions, and will be back to play again soon. Great layout overall...to be picky, I'm not a fan of holes that double back on each other, and that is my only criticism. Excellent condition. I was expecting greens to be faster based on reviews - they're immaculate and run true, but certainly not what I would consider fast at all. I'm thinking the wind conditions kept people away, but we pretty much had the course to ourselves - never waited on anyone and was never pushed. Definitely worth the time if a moderate green fee can be found. We paid $40 ea.
Excellent Condition
This was the second time in 3 weeks that I've played here and the course is in amazing condition. The fairways are well kept, not to soft or hard, and with no patches. The greens are impeccable and as green as can be. I absolutely recommend this course.
Worth the drive
Beautiful course. Fantastic layout. Greens are flawless and a little quick. Fairways are pristine. Rough is very tough to play out of, a little spongy, which made chipping a fun challenge. Would have liked to see a better course map / hole layout guide as there are some semi-blind shots I would have played differently had I known where I was headed. Staff was friendly. Played in a relaxed 4 hours on Sunday morning. Equivalent in quality to Black Horse (when Black Horse is at it's best). Drove from downtown Houston and will be back again, well worth the 1hr drive.
Nice Course
Course was very well-kept, greens immaculate, friendly helpful staff. Great place to play.
Challenging
Fairways are soft, you need to swing through to carry the ball. Greens are perfect. Challenging enough that I am going again tomorrow.
Nice Course!
First time down here and I really enjoyed it. Played from the orange tees which makes some of the holes pretty long (especially into the prevailing wind). Couple of shots I would like to have back and would do better with having played once before. Make sure you have the correct pin locations. I would definitely come back - worth the drive.
course was immaculate
condition of the course was outstanding.
Always in great shape
I have played this course many times all different times of the year and it has always been in great shape. The greens and fairways were perfect.
Glad you loved the conditions we can't wait to see you on your next round!
Great course, Great value!
For the time of year conditions great. Staff very friendly. First to tee off so no issue with pace. Weather may have kept people away but no rain for us. Keep in fairways cause rough just deep enough to hide stray ball. Only complaint was pesky mosquitos. Definitely play again.
Thank you so much for this great review! We are happy to hear the staff made your experience a memorable one. Come back and see us!
Best conditioned course I played in Texas this year.
The course is in great condition, both fairways and greens. It is a fun course to play. The only drawback was the pace of play. The wind makes the course play long for short hitters. Saw several groups not playing ready golf. No marshalls to keep pace moving. Five hour round on a weekday when the course wasn't packed. I would still highly recommend playing the course if you can.
Thanks so much for playing at Moody Gardens! We will let our staff know about the concern on the pace of play. We appreciate you looking out!
So Hot
Course was in excellent shape but the weather beat me down by the 18th. I was expecting at least a breeze. Wonderful course
So glad you loved the course! Hope to see you again on a better weather day. Come back again!
Resort style golf course
This was my first time playing this track and I was impressed. The course was in excellent condition. Every part of the course was well manicured and looked amazing. The front 9 were all beautifuly designed holes. Back 9 for some reason didn't look as amazing, although they were still nice.
The wind caught me by surprise as it gusted pretty hard pretty much non-stop.
Overall it was a fantastic day of golf at a beautiful course. I will return!
Happy to hear you loved the course and conditions at Moody Gardens! We can't wait to see you back for more!
Fun Beach Course
This is originally the Galveston municipal course. I played from the tips and found it to be a lot more challenging than I expected. With alot of water in play and holes that try to disguise the landing areas quite a bit, it is not your typical simple muni. The course was in good shape, the fairways are lush, the greens a bit soft (they were aerated when I played). All in all, I found it to be a delight. Nice wildlife, good views of the bay, you get to see any airport activity, etc. And definitely more challenging than I originally thought since it is a links style with few trees and wide fairways. Beware of the wind as well! If you like the natural part of golf as much as the golf, this is worth a play.
Awesome! Thank you for leaving this review and taking the time to notice our course conditions and the scenery here at Moody Gardens. Looking forward to your next visit.
Moody Gardens
The course was in excellent shape with the exception of the greens which had been plugged and sanded (which I knew about before playing). The food and service in the grill was below par so the next time I go there, I will eat somewhere else and then enjoy my round. The grill left a lot to be desired.
Awesome to hear you enjoyed the course. Thanks for letting us know about the food/service we will let our staff know so we can improve your experience on the next round!
So happy to hear you loved the course conditions and your round was memorable. Can't wait to see you back here for your next round!
