Moody Gardens
About Moody Gardens
Moody Gardens is a large resort and attraction area with a hotel, conference center and 18 holes of golf in the coastal town of Galveston, Texas. It is well known for its three pyramids home to an aquarium and rain forest attractions. It has not only an onsite waterpark but is next to Schlitterbahn as well. There are six dining concepts, as well as a spa and fitness center. It's within easy access to historic downtown Galveston, Pleasure Pier and the beaches. The golf course originally opened in 1989 but was totally redesigned by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy in 2008. This watery layout features scenic views of the gulf, bridges and bayous, and the back nine plays alongside the small Galveston airport. The course is links-inspired with gulf breezes and wall-to-wall paspalum turf. Historic Galveston is less than an hour's drive from downtown Houston, making Moody Gardens a popular day trip destination as well as for weekend vacation getaways.Facts

Best in the area
Moody Garden is a great and challenging course. You can get a great deal on green fees. The course is always in great shape. The greens were a little slow but rolled very true. It's Galveston so the wind blew! Combine that with water on many holes and errant shots become penalty strokes. Lot's of fun and a good test!
Nice Layout
Of you are looking for a moderately challenging course; you owe it to yourself to check out thos course . The greens are in great shape and roll true. Water hazards are present but really come into play.
Course was in great shape
Fabulous course. Only downside was all the mosquitoes but not much they can do about that.
Windy -- but expected that
Wish the course was closer -- we would certainly play it more often.
The only "negative" that I can come up with was the
windy conditions -- and no one on this earth controls the weather.
Moody Gardens is Grrrrrrrrreat!
This course is in great shape. Ariation is almost complete.(6/9/15) Moody has a HUGE driving range, LARGE putting green, practice chipping green and bunker. The staff here is super approachable and friendly as well. This course is TOUGH. Water on 1, 3, 5-18! Do yourself a favor and play the GOLD tees. Black its over 400 yards longer, and ORANGE is nearly 7000yds.
Also, bring mosquito spray....you never know.
Greens Need Some Work
Played on a Monday so pace of play was not an issue. Played 36 holes and ate lunch between rounds in about 8 and 1/2 hours. The course conditions were very good with the exception of the greens - they had been punched and were very bumpy and extremely slow. Recognizing the course has to perform maintenance and since the rest of the course was in good shape, I can give them the benefit of the doubt and hope the greens are rolling better next time.
Many thanks to all!
I wanted to write this review to express my sincere gratitude to the staff at Moody Gardens Golf Course. I made a big mistake and the young lady in the Pro Shop was able to fix the situation and get us out to play golf. The course was wonderful, playable and challenging. There is a lot of water surrounding the course but ample room to work with. Greens had been aerated recently but were still pretty good. The entire staff, starter, marshals, beverage staff and Pelican Grill staff were all very pleasant.
THANK YOU ALL!!
Wonderful Course
Great course, greens were tricky but fun to play. That aside with the windy conditions it's a great challenge course to base your game on.
Nice course!!!
I only got to play there once. Nice greens. Will play again!
This course was in great condition!
This was my first time playing this course. Best course I have seen and played on. The greens were in excellent shape and the fairways were really nice. Only problem or complaint was the wind. Other than that, great course and I would recommend this course to anyone and I will definitely go back.
Excellent Course
Moody always prove to be in the best of conditions all year round. I fun course to play. The biggest defense is the wind coming off the Gulf.

Course was excellent. It was a little windy but enjoyed the round.
Greens in good shape, just a little slow. Could benefit from verticut.
Great time and round greens just a little slow and grainy due to thickness.
This course is a hidden gem
This course is a hidden gem that's actually not that far from Houston
Nice track but INFESTED with mosquitoes
Good layout. Lots of water to add visual interest but not always in play for me (7 handicap). My partner did lose a lot of balls but he is a beginning golfer. Greens were typically good and rolled true. Reasonable amount of well placed bunkers. Plenty of tees to chose from to match your skill level.
My only complaint was about the pro shop staff. They knew the course was infested with huge mosquitoes but they didn't say anything when we checked in. When I bought a $9 bottle of bug spray at the turn they said; "we know the mosquitoes are bad but we've had a lot of rain". Well, I'm just visiting the area so I'm not up to speed on the amount of rain they've had nor how that effects the course's mosquito population. I really think it was irresponsible of the staff not to warn patrons that their course was infested with potentially disease-carrying insects.
It's a really nice course but would suggest playing it in pants, a long sleeve shirt, and cover yourself with a lot of bug spray.
Wonderful Course
This course was wonderful eventhough it was rainy day. This course was well drained, it was not hard to play. I strongly recommend.
Worth Every Penny
Well kept higher end public course for only $43 is a great find. Definitely worth it to make a day out of going to Galveston and having dinner on the seawall afterward.
Faily easy layout but lots of water and bunkers to keep you honest. Enjoyable for all skill levels.
Convenient course on Galveston Island.
It was great to be able to get to the course in 15 minutes from our condo. The weather wasn't very good most of the week, which made some rounds go very fast playing alone. The wind is always a factor. Multiple tee boxes allowed all to play.
Moody Gardens has changed.
I first played this course in 1989 and the redesign that they have done is excellent work. In the winter in Texas it is hard to find greens that are in good shape these are not only in good shape but they were excellent and they probably rolled at a 12 on a stimp meter very true putting greens and overall a very nice course.
Great course if you don't mind some wind!
Great value if you get the locals rate or a deal on GolfNow. Played the day after Christmas and the course was in great shape. Greens running smooth and fairly quick- fairways nice as well. Only comment would be some of the bunkers lack enough sand which is ironic since the course is on Galveston Island. Be careful on bunker shots as some bunkers are packed and shallow and the ball will come out hot! Could also have been due to recent rainfall... overall a great round and an enjoyable day.Drinks cart came past several times over the course of the 18 holes.
