Moody Gardens
About Moody Gardens
Moody Gardens is a large resort and attraction area with a hotel, conference center and 18 holes of golf in the coastal town of Galveston, Texas. It is well known for its three pyramids home to an aquarium and rain forest attractions. It has not only an onsite waterpark but is next to Schlitterbahn as well. There are six dining concepts, as well as a spa and fitness center. It's within easy access to historic downtown Galveston, Pleasure Pier and the beaches. The golf course originally opened in 1989 but was totally redesigned by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy in 2008. This watery layout features scenic views of the gulf, bridges and bayous, and the back nine plays alongside the small Galveston airport. The course is links-inspired with gulf breezes and wall-to-wall paspalum turf. Historic Galveston is less than an hour's drive from downtown Houston, making Moody Gardens a popular day trip destination as well as for weekend vacation getaways.Facts

Wonderful Course
This course was wonderful eventhough it was rainy day. This course was well drained, it was not hard to play. I strongly recommend.
Worth Every Penny
Well kept higher end public course for only $43 is a great find. Definitely worth it to make a day out of going to Galveston and having dinner on the seawall afterward.
Faily easy layout but lots of water and bunkers to keep you honest. Enjoyable for all skill levels.
Convenient course on Galveston Island.
It was great to be able to get to the course in 15 minutes from our condo. The weather wasn't very good most of the week, which made some rounds go very fast playing alone. The wind is always a factor. Multiple tee boxes allowed all to play.
Moody Gardens has changed.
I first played this course in 1989 and the redesign that they have done is excellent work. In the winter in Texas it is hard to find greens that are in good shape these are not only in good shape but they were excellent and they probably rolled at a 12 on a stimp meter very true putting greens and overall a very nice course.
Great course if you don't mind some wind!
Great value if you get the locals rate or a deal on GolfNow. Played the day after Christmas and the course was in great shape. Greens running smooth and fairly quick- fairways nice as well. Only comment would be some of the bunkers lack enough sand which is ironic since the course is on Galveston Island. Be careful on bunker shots as some bunkers are packed and shallow and the ball will come out hot! Could also have been due to recent rainfall... overall a great round and an enjoyable day.Drinks cart came past several times over the course of the 18 holes.
Great fun, best greens in the area
I played with two gents i had never met before, had an outstanding time. I highly recommend. Best greens I have played on for years
Great Course - Mosquito Haven
Let me emphasize that this is a great course. They have an airport right next to the course, and it is my assumption this is where all the mosquitoes come in for a landing. :) Don't wear shorts, like I did, and carry bug spray, which I didn't. If the wind had not been blowing 15 MPH, I would have probably had to pack it in.
Anyway, the course has two different nines. The back played a lot harder than the front, IMO. Club up or down for the wind, and play for the middle to avoid trouble.
Excellent condition
Really enjoyed this beautiful course, greens were in great condition. Thanks
Worth the Drive
This is the first time my son and I have played the Moody Gardens Golf Course. The fairways, rough and greens were in very good condition. The pace of play was very good (expected for a Monday) except for the last two holes which was backed up because 18 is one of the hardest holes with a long carry over water. The only negative were the mosquitos (a can of Off is a necessity). They were very bad in the long grass near water and there is lots of water. We will definitely play the course again. It was a good challenge from the tees we played (gold for me and orange for my son).
pooky
'WHILE WE ARE YOUNG" Did not hold to this course.Paid for 18 but pace of play was awful. Quit after 2:30 hours. Course had no marshall to move pace.Could have joined 2in front of me but their golf was some of the problem Foursome in front them most have playing for big bucks.
Staff lowers Course
The course is beautiful but the staff was really rude and very unfriendly, especially the golf pro. I would have loved this course better but the staff just took away the course's greatness. All of the awards the course received does not overcome the lack of staff. I have never played a course with staff this rude. I will not go back but travel to a course closer to Houston.
Rude staff
Terrible pro shop staff and golf pro they were rude and acted like we were hired help.....very rude people and would never go back we spent over 400 dollars and the wouldn't even bat an eye to us ...upside great coarse too and they had to be rude
This course is an awesome place to play.
The course has everything to challenge any golfer. It has a lot of water and bunkers in fairways and around every green. The fairways are beautiful and the rough is thick and deep. The greens have been plugged recently and are not as true and fast as normal but should be excellent by mid September.
Not a bad option
Since there's not much else around when I come down here, I usually play. The course is actually pretty nice. Only complaint I had was the greens. I've never played ones that were that sanded. Even after aerating them. Basically couldn't see the grass. Not always the case though.
Greens were fantastic
I played this course 4 days in a row and would have gone back for a 5th day.
Great experience !!
Greens are really good! The golfcourse is in very good chape, I enjoyed very much this round!!!
Moody Gardens Golf Course
The course is in great shape. The greens are in the best shape that I have ever seen them in. This course is a must play if you have the chance to do so.
Great course in great shape
The fair is just perfect! The grass is very nice! The course layout is very challenging! Definitely worth the 2 hours drive!
Windy smooth green
Course windy, either into wind or wind behind you. Green amazingly smooth, course in great condition
A good Birthday present to myself
Moody Gardens Is a very good course with lots of bunkers and of course water. This course has different challenges for all kinds of golfers and their various golf skills. Staff was friendly and laid back. Only problem, lots of mosquitos so I had to buy repellent and pretty much use most of the bottle. But by the time I got to number 9 mosquitos pretty much stopped bothering me. So when I come back to Galveston I will play this course again.
