I’m not mad, just disappointed.
A couple of things up front: Retail for 18 holes is $140 in the winter time. I saved my golfpass points, used a hot deal, and the SUN25 promo code and played for $36. Also, the area got 2” of rain 48 hours before I played. This was followed with 48 hours of pure sunshine(during the day) and wind. Played on a Monday.
I got what I payed for, which was: a beautiful driving range, fabulous greens, painted fairways, very friendly pro shop staff that did not communicate course conditions or cart rules. Very friendly maintenance staff that alerted my foursome, while on the putting green, that they were gonna open the course to 90 degrees (which was news to the foursome since no one communicated CPO), Closed snack shack at turn (really needed that hot dog), closed purified water station/bathroom house on the back 9, bunkers that had not been given any attention since the rain, and a few bare spots on tees.
Again, I’m not mad. I played for a heck of a deal. Thank you GolfNow. I will be back but probably not until summer.
Independence is always in good conditions
Top-notch staff friendliness, driving range and practice areas are always the best. Courses very open and plays well to all players. Greens are true and fast. Bunkers are in pretty good shape. Some of the tee boxes need a little work.
Perfectly Maintained
The greens, Fairways, and especially the tea boxes were an immaculate condition. Although wide open fairways provide plenty of forgiveness,, strategically placed sand traps, make even the straightest drives a challenge. The greens are well maintained, firm and fast with plenty of undulations to navigate through.
Generous fairway landing areas. The greens were true and fast, keep everything below the hole. Greens are firm and don't necessarily hold if you attack the pin, take into consideration on approach shot.
Generous layout
Course is kept in great playing conditions from tee to green. But there is no wow factor.
Greens need work
Greens needed some work on the par 3 course but Free range balls with your round so it made for a good value. Pro-shop Staff was very friendly. Drinks/Amenities by the range seemed pretty dope.
Best Public Golf Course in Virginia!
A must play course with great practice facilities. Greens are usually perfect & FAST!
The course is all about long drives & 2nd shots, no finesse needed! Very wide fairways and super large greens.
Pricey
$130 during the week is why I only play here maybe once a year. Greens are fast and firm. Just can’t get over the price. It’s a great course just too expensive for me. New vendor working the snack bar - no hot dogs. Who eats wings while playing golf at the turn? Ordered a Buffalo chicken wrap, it was chicken salad w Texas Pete wrapped in a tortilla for $12.
Fantastic public course in the Richmond area
I thoroughly enjoyed playing Independence this past Friday. I had heard a lot of good things from friends about the course and for $129, I admittedly had high expectations. I'm happy to report that Independence and its staff exceeded my expectations and made me want to come back again and again! Even with the crappy weather and it being so early in the season, the course was in excellent condition. Very fair and very fun track. The staff went above and beyond - from the folks at the bar/grille, to the gentleman that checked us in, to the super friendly on-course beverage girl. Facilities are top notch and everything was a wonderful experience. This was easily one my favorite golf outings in the Richmond area and I shot a great score too!
Greens are some of the best in Virginia! Always roll fast and true. The rest of the course was in great shape.
The “Bear”
Very enjoyable par 3 experience. Pretty significant forced carries for a par 3. Back tees will challenge the average player on certain holes. Experimental greens can be a little distracting depending on pin placement - lots of marking paint on some greens for the testing of grasses. A very good walk and good test of short game. Staff was A+.
Excellent Course !
The pace of play is very slow. That should be reviewed by management.
