About Carson Hot Springs Golf Resort & Spa
The Carson Hot Springs Golf Resort & Spa in the Columbia River Gorge features a historic hotel completed in 1901, as well as cabins and a bathhouse added in 1923. The bathhouse offers a traditional experience with clawfoot tubs and vintage stylings. Mineral water is pumped directly into the tubs for an all-natural, healing bath, which can followed by a linen wrap and massage. There’s a restaurant at the resort and another one inside the clubhouse of the Elk Ridge Golf Course, a 6,461-yard layout dating to 2006. The outdoor pursuits of the region – hiking, biking, wineries and horseback riding – are at your fingertips.Facts

Poor decisions
The owners have made some very poor decision on the course. I played it last fall 3 times and it became one of my favorite course. But the owners have allowed the grass to grow very deep off of the fairway, so deep that you will rarely find your ball. A shot just a little off line was lost. Then they have these large mounds that are covered with the deep grass right on the edge of the fairway that eat decent shots. I was playing with a 6 handicap and he shot a 95 and was very disappointed with what has happened to the course.
The views on the course are outstanding but it is to far to drive (Portland) to play on slow greens and tight fairways. If they are looking for more play they are going at it the wrong way. Unless you are 3 handicap stay away, I know I am.
Unfair and frustrating
AVOID at all cost, unless you are a single digit handicapper. The rough is very punitive and unfair, thick and long. The fairways are so narrow that even slightly off center hits are lost balls. There are huge grass mounds in the fairway that gobble up balls, and they are so thick and tall no way to hit out even if you find it. I play Skamania golf course several times a month and its a breeze compared to Elk Ridge. For a recreational golfer this course IS NOT set up for you. Until management decides to cut the course to reasonable standards DO NOT make the drive. But, I will say it is one of the most beautiful settings in the gorge.
Course is very nice condition and friendly folks
Course has apparently underwent an update. This is the first time I played it. Greens were is great condition. Pace of play was excellent. Easy course to walk. Staff were very nice.
great course, can play hard stay in middle u r find, greens r fun
its a 45 minute drive from washougal but its a fun course to play and would do it again any time
Most scenic golf course.
This was my second time playing Elk Ridge in Carson. After playing my first round I couldn't wait to get back. It is the most scenic golf course in the Northwest. It lies in the hills of Carson overlooking the Columbia River Gorge.
The fairways and greens are meticulously maintained. The course is challenging due to the tall grassy fortress's that line the fairway. If your ball goes into one of those, its gone. If you have played The Reserve North course it is very reminiscent. Advice here is to use your more accurate irons than going for distance off some of the tee's. The staff brags about how dry the course is and I put that to the test. After a solid week of rain you couldn't tell it had rained at all.
This course is so nice that it should covet higher greens fee. But the drive from Portland keeps the prices very reasonable and you can find stellar deals on Golfnow.
Elk Ridge is somewhat hilly and recommend using a cart your first trip out. I walked it last time and wish I had rented the cart.
This has become my most favorite course.
Fun, challenging course w/ amazing views
I played this course on a mellow Saturday right after a week of rain. The entire course is well maintained. Fairways are in excellent condition. The long grass ate 6 of my balls and even the short rough was super thick. There is no chance of scoring well if you aren't extremely accurate, most fairways are very narrow with tall grass or bunkers on either side. Greens are a bit slow. The staff was great. I had a blast playing this course and the views of the Gorge are breathtaking!!!
Overgrown Rough
Course was great, greens were not too fast and very well maintained. It is a links style course and if you get in the rough you can forget getting your ball out. In fact your lucky to even find it. I love this course but for the average golfer the rough almost makes the course unplayable unless you hit every shot in the fairway. You have no chance of hitting it out of the rough which is about 2 feet long grass. Staff says it is the defense of the course, but it is ridiculously high. They say they are going to tone it down in future.
This recently resurrected course is a gem: incredible natural setting, challenging layout, well-maintained and with friendly staff.
I found nothing disappointing at Elk Ridge. The course was great fun to play and the tight fairways bordered by a knee deep fescue rough made for a good test. Likewise the tall grass fairway borders and sculpted circles, combined with myriad sand traps and a little water set against the thickly forested hills of the Columbia River gorge offered an amazing palette of green on green vistas-- absolutely stunning! The greens are huge, undulating and brutally slow. Plus the place was empty, the greenskeeping emaculate and the fees (especially with GolfNow) minimal. I encourage skilled players to get to this course before it's discovered!
Great course but mounds stink
Views at the course were great, greens are huge but a little slow. Fairways are very good, but the grass mounds with knee to waist deep grass everywhere made the round less than enjoyable. If the grass in the mounds was thinner so that you had a chance to find your ball it would be better. If you play by the rules and return to last spot to hit for lost ball I could see a round taking 6 hours Maybe that why the were only a few cars in the lot.
Overall Great Place!
I had never been here before. It has only been open for about 9 months apparently. When we arrived in the morning there was only 1 car in the parking lot. It was a VERY beautiful, well landscaped course. My friend and I felt like we found a secret, unknown gem since nobody else was there practically. It's a far drive to get there from where I live but well worth it. The drive itself is beautiful throughout anyway. The tee boxes, fairways and rough were taken care of perfectly. The ONLY reason I didn't give a "5" rating was because the greens, although they were plush and void of blemishes, ran pretty darn slow. It could be very well that they hadn't been cut that morning or something, however it was a very slow speed despite it being a hot and dry day. Hopefully it was just a fluke because they brag about their course condition and the speed of the greens.
If the greens run faster next time I'll give it a "5"
Tough greens, excellent fairways and player friendly.
One of the finest links style courses with 18 wonderful holes. A great place to play, and wonderful scenery. And very affordable for the average golfer.
Beautiful Course
Went there on a beautiful Fri afternoon and little to no traffic. Just a beautiful course with great views and wonderful setting. The course is fun, and I'm just a beginner. Great value for the money and my buddy and I will be back. A lot nicer than the courses I've played in Portland and much better value. Hope these guys get more golfers out there because they've worked hard to get the course in fabulous shape.
Worth the Drive!
This links style course was an amazing place to play. The course was very well maintained, the staff was very friendly and the view was without a doubt simply breath taking! I have played other courses in the gorge and this course rivals every or exceeds all of them. A hour drive from Vancouver is nothing for what you get to enjoy.
Finnally
After 30 years they got it right! Narrow fairways lots of grass bunkers! Greens are a little firm, but I think they will come around with age. Looks like they plugged and sanded about a mounth ago. Little bumpy. Very pretty with some wildlife. Will definatly be back.
Great renovation to entire course!
Newly renovated, tee boxes, fairways, greens, traps...everything. This place used to play like a goat track and now plays like a resort course. Very impressed with the condition and care given to the details. Greens still a little slow, but should improve in the summer.
Amazing views!
Best kept secret in South West Washington
Incredible scenery. Beautiful Course. Tough greens to read. Very challenging.. Great food.. and very little people know about it. Course is in Amazing condition. simply Beautiful. 4th time golfing it and still I am amazed at the true beauty of the course
Good layout but deep rough and wind challenging
Warm welcome from the staff and nice course design. Narrow fairways, gorge winds and deep rough made for many searches and lost balls and consequently played about 30-45 minutes longer than it needed to. Thankfully, we had beautiful weather.
Amazing course layout and great value.
Amazing layout and very affordable. 50 minute drive from Downtown Portland. Very nice people and great food.
Wonderful vistas of the Columbia Gorge
The maintenance staff is putting the final touches on this course. In a month, it will be one of the jewels of the area. It's an hour from Portland/Vancouver, but well worth the drive.
Can't see Columbia River however still Great View
This Course is 60mile away from home, I know little far.. but, Want to see. It was Great view as most recomended.
But, something to be desired.
