Thanks for watching Georges! Hope it helps and stay warm up north haha
Holding a club as you suggest in your drill - are you saying the trail side of one's swing has nothing to do with rotation? As per your suggested drill the trail hand is all but detached from the golf club?
Not necessarily, trail hip absolutely has to rotate effectively for you to be able to do this. If the trail hip doesn't move and trail knee stays too bent you can't rotate well. This is more so to simply get the sensation of keeping the arms wide as you turn vs an arm dominant swing with minimal rotation. With all of that being said I'm not a huge fan of players thinking about the trail arm being a main mover in the backswing. Most players I see get over active with that trail arm end up pulling the elbow around their side/rib cage and that arm gets stuck too far behind them.
Bryce: i have a tendency to dip my head in my backswing which effectively limits my rotation. How do I work on not dipping in the backswing.
Hey Douglas! That can be a tricky one for sure. If you have a playing partner or friend at the range I would have them hold a club or an alignment stick just underneath of your chin and make sure you don't drop down and hit it (I wouldn't hit shots with this to start, mainly just use it to get the feel). If you are on your own I would use video feedback and slightly exaggerate feeling like you almost get taller in the backswing. I think you'll be surprised to see that feeling like you get 1-2" taller is really you staying level. You don't truly want to stand up on the backswing though so keep using video to make sure you don't over do the feel over time. Hope that makes sense!!
Bryce nice stuff here, quick question. What is your recommendation for avoiding the tendency for the club head not to return to square when you increase your turn? Thanks, Don
