Wind Watch Golf & Country Club
About
Although it is located in Hauppauge on Long Island's North Shore, Wind Watch Golf Club possesses the look and feel of a destination course. Sprawling across a lush, rolling landscape covered with sparkling ponds, the course is as challenging as it is scenic. Water hazards come into play on 12 holes and there are more than 75 bunkers, some of which are massive in size, strategically placed throughout. Almost every hole presents golfers with a unique risk-reward opportunity. The golf course begins and ends at its highest point, which is one of the island's highest elevations. Wind Watch's closing hole provides a memorable finish as the only dogleg on the course. This par 4 takes a sharp left before climbing uphill to the triple-tiered green that is protected by three enormous traps.

what a view from the 18th green Photo submitted by Richard5321 on 11/02/2013
Disappointing- not worth the money anymore ! !
While this course has always been on the expensive side - it was always worth it but not anymore! Looks like they have really given up as far as maintenance and keeping up the course conditions . Greens were punched weeks ago but no follow up work so still bumpy with holes . Fairways bare in spots , bunkers not raked , broken rakes at some traps - there was a dead squirrel on a cart path. My cart died after 5 holes - the one person working there came out to replace it - when I mentioned my thoughts he said " I cant disagree". NOT ONE MAINTENANCE PERSON SEEN THE ENTIRE ROUND. No water anywhere, halfway house looked shuttered , no starter just a girl sitting in pro shop taking money. Work being done on locker room but as far as the course - zero. Totally not worth the price anymore . Played Bethpage today- $43 and it was like a country club .. this was like a muni that they are looking to sell off. After the round we wanted to grab a beer - were told its closed so had to go to hotel - even though the carts advertised a special at the course bar . When giving in the cart we told a guy our thoughts and he said pretty sarcastically - Ill tell the GM .
Very disappointing- not what it used to be. Not worth the $$$
For a course that has always been on the expensive side ,you at least felt you got your moneys worth- well not anymore.
No info that the Greens were punched or a discount that some courses offer -ok , then found out it was almost 3 weeks ago and they were still in bad condition shows no follow up work was done at all which was the theme all over. Fairways in bad condition , bunkers never raked ,
Broken rakes at some bunkers -literally not one maintenance person anywhere to be seen. While lots of construction being done to the locker rooms - nothing to the course. Looks like they have really given up while still charging $100. There was a dead squirrel on a cart path for f sakes !! No Cart , ok No halfway house open no water available anywhere to fill my bottle on 85 degree day. . My cart was dying after 5 holes - thankfully I got the one employee working there to bring me a new one. When I mentioned it to the person his response was - I can't disagree. No starter just a girl collecting money in pro shop -
NOT WORTH THE MONEY ANYMORE - pretty frustrating
Sand and water
conditions are good for the early season. I did not miss many traps or water hazards. Seems like no one other than myself had raked a trap. Good overall, hopefully it improves.
Slow… no starter is only got 9
Started at 3:20 and was only able to get 9 in. Pace of play was extremely slow. Asked for a rain check for the back 9 and they couldn’t accommodate. Fun layout just really slow play
Wind Watch Golf Course
I hadn't played the course in years, but it was in great shape tee box to greens. The greens were fast and some challenging undulations. It's a very challenging course!
Where is the Ranger?
I’ve played this course a few times, and the earlier experiences were fine. The most recent round was a different experience. There had been recent rains, and the course did not drain well, so the course played cart path only. The twosome in front of us was chronically slow, hit multiple balls on multiple shots each hole, and moved slower than slow to and from their two carts, despite their youthful ages. As a result, we waited and watched on every shot.. There was no ranger on the course at any point during the round to monitor and enforce the pace of play. Not hurrying back.
Five stars deserve
This is a dignified and sophisticated private course. The entire staff conducts themselves with professionalism and shows great consideration for every golfer. The course itself is magnificent and incredibly challenging; the 9th hole, in particular, harbors significant peril if you attempt a long shot to reach the green. You may struggle and toil your way toward the finish line, only to find that the 18th hole leaves you feeling helpless—almost as if it were taunting you to return and take on the challenge once more. It fills me with pride to know that such a magnificent golf course exists right here in New York. Oh, and its sister course, Willow Creek, is also excellent.
A challenge
The course is challenging with its length, water hazards, and fast greens. Must bring your “a” game. Greens were aerated but ran fast anyway. Grass wasn’t quite full and growing yet so lies were thin. Don’t really care for the first and eighteen holes which are a bit unfair. Halfway house could use an upgrade. Course was in good condition and pace of play excellent-4 hours for 18 holes.
Not enjoyable and disappointing
First off, I completely understand that courses need to aerate this time of the year here in NY with that said, they left the plugs laying all over the fairways. The bunkers were littered with rocks and pebbles, the course was overall in really rough shape. Again I know it's early in the season and we had a bad winter but I have played several rounds over the past few weeks and other courses were in much much better shape even right after being aerated. All of that for in season full price as well. I have played many rounds here over the years and I know that it's on the higher price end of public courses in the area and normally I would say that it is worth the price... not this time. I actually left after playing 9 holes.
Great course conditions
Great, friendly staff and course is in good shape. Greens are fast. Restaurant should open before 1 pm.
Bunkers
I leave the same review for most public courses. WAY TO MUCH GRAVEL. Pebbles, small stones etc...
Wind Watch
Convenient for me close by. I do like it even though it kicks my butt. Just can’t read the greens very fast and hard doesn’t hold a long to mid iron. Almost a guarantee to roll off back. Going back again tomorrow for more punishment. I need redemption lol
1 st time this year
Still early in the season so the coarse isn’t at it’s best yet but it was in good shape for this early in the season.
