The 797 Elks Golf Club, formerly known as Quail Lakes Golf Course, has changed more than its name since first opening in 1961. When the course was up for sale in the 1980s, the trustees of the adjacent Elks 797 Lodge purchased the property in order to keep a public golf course for the community. The front nine was created well before the back nine was completed. Although the two nines provide a vastly different look and feel, they provide plenty of variety that manages to meld seamlessly into a great round. The ever-changing landscape adds to the course's diversity. Mature trees and tall grasses line the fairways, making accuracy essential, and you'll also find strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides. There are definitely some challenges in store but with careful course management, you'll be rewarded with some birdie opportunities.

Elks797 GC
The greens were aeriated and a little sandy. The course is improving slowly but surely. Should be in good condition next spring with continued management in place. Tim has done a great job of getting the course back to its old condition.
It’s Been in Better Shape
It’s been a while since I last played there. The Pro Shop was in the event center back then. Now it’s in the little shack near hole 1’s tee box.
The overall layout of this course is “friendly” for golfers who don’t like to play courses with a lot of undulations. It is also “friendly” for players who are just learning the game of golf.
The upkeep of the course does not appear to being maintained. Pretty much most of the greens had “bald spots” due to lack of care. The fairways were also very “shaggy” throughout most of the holes.
The lady who was in the snack bar . . . was a “mean old woman”. She may have had a tough day . . . and it showed.
One of the players got a hotdog at the turn. It was “well burnt” and looked terrible. He decided not to eat it and threw it away.
Fair for the money.
My main takeaways from this course are:
Staff was super friendly. We arrived at 6:50 AM for a 7:40 tee time. The staff let us go out first as there were only two of us. A group of three behind us, who look like regulars, we’re on our tails the whole time, but never once hit into us. Someone along the way helped us find the next hole.
Most of the grass on the course is the same grass cut it slightly different lengths periodically. The fairways were a little bit difficult to differentiate from the rough, but it was all manicured well enough to play off of. The greens were in average condition for the area as far as some of the greens had a fungus, but I’ve played courses for over twice the price with the same green conditions and worse. Where there was not a fungus on the green, they were well kept. The sand traps were overgrown with weeds, although someone still put a rake in each sand trap. I don’t think I actually saw any sand in any sand trap. No big deal, we pulled our ball back and played from just out of the trap. We played Labor Day morning and paid $35. 18 with a cart. It was difficult to get on anywhere else last minute, and most anywhere else was $60-$110. We played 18 holes in two hours and 45 minutes. Overall, I would recommend this course if you are OK with the conditions I’ve described above.

Not the best or worst I’ve played. Fairways could use some love along with the greens, sand traps luckily had no sand they’ve been overran by weeds but still decent course to play
Not my favorite
I think I am down on this round as we were stuck behind a 4 some and with 2 I thought we'd play quickly thru. Instead we were offered that on the 16th hole. The course holds water so the fairways were saturated. The bunkers have no sand some were full of weeds. The greens were slow, but clearly have a fungus and many had spots all over them. There are some cool holes, like their signature hole and some challenging shots.
The staff was friendly, no complaints. Carts do have computers, which is a plus.
Needs more attention to the course and it would rank higher in my mind, but if I am going to Wilmington to golf- pay for Majestic Springs.
Fun Course but WAY too Slow
Slow. Slow. Slow. Burnt up as usual but a fun course to play if you are not a long hitter. But the course management needs to space out tee times more, have a starter, and ensure groups are playing with 4 or less golfers. We had a fivesome in front of us that held up seven groups behind them and did not let anyone play through. They had a 3 hole gap in front of them. Not worth the wait.

Good course to play. Easy to get around and the people are very nice to deal with.
It's what it is
An easy course to play. Flat, some water. For people who live close, it's convenient, inexpensive and easy to play.
The Course is in terrible shape the worse condition of any course I know. I just play to get in some practice before I play other courses. If it wasn’t cheap I would never play there.
Great Value
Good course for the money! Tricky layout. The greens were a little damaged, but it’s early in the season.
Decent course with a nice clubhouse
The course was in decent shape, although some fairways had bare spots and were a little dried out. Greens were better than last year but several still had scars that inhibited putting over them. Overall, we had a nice round and the price is reasonable.
