About
Formerly known as Deer Run, Pittsburgh National Golf Club has undergone major renovations since management has changed hands over the years, including complete reconditioning of the greens and the addition of 60 new renovated bunkers. The championship golf course that exists today is more challenging than the original though it has retained the same playability. With no blind shots to be found and wide fairways that are player-friendly, the course is inviting to beginners and also offers a casual but interesting round for more advanced players. During the renovation, the club also added a practice facility that includes a grass driving range with heated hitting stalls for year-round use, it is one of the only public grass ranges in the Greater Pittsburgh area. There is also a putting green and chipping area with sand bunkers.

Needs work but good value
I used to play this course when it was deer run, and it was much better maintained back then I understand the cost of maintaining a golf course are high the cart paths, though we’re in pretty bad shape. However, the fairways were OK and the greens were good, but there was an awful lot of very deep grass and the cuttings were left on the fairway. We found a lot of lost balls as a result but for the money, it’s pretty good value. I wish they’d throw a little bit of maintenance into it and just clean the cut grass off the fairway after you cut it.
Bad experience
Weeds growing all over the clubhouse. Rough hadn’t been touched in months, tee boxes were in rough shape. Staff at the clubhouse was extremely rude. Won’t be golfing here again.

The owner came out screaming at us for bring on the course with a golf cart.
Tee boxes are horrible
We played on Monday July 6th 2026.the tee boxes are horrible. Doesn't look like they are trying to do anything g to make it better. The manager was rude and made ridiculous comments. We will never go back.
Hidden Gem
Pittsburgh National is only 10 minutes from Route 8 North and though a little tricky to locate it's well worth the trip. We only played 9 but I was assured the back is as well maintained and fun to play as the front. Get a course layout from the pro shop before you start. No GPS or map on the scorecard. It's sometimes hard to distinguish the line of play. A bit hilly but the landing spots are gentle.
best day ever!!
we had such an amazing time. It was so much fun and we had our Personal best from the white tees 81 and a 79 so happy and trying to go back again this weekend.
Great Course
I played the course for the first time yesterday and I was not disappointed. The course is in good shape, the staff were friendly. An advice would be not to hunt the flags, greens are very firm and that is trouble…
Worst customer service ever
This used to be a cool golf course. Now, the ppl who answer the phone or take tee times give you unnecessary attitude and make you pay in advance like they are Augusta…lots of nicer courses for less money with friendlier ppl.
1st game of the year
Beautiful course. In the spring it is no surprise there are some soft spots due to the water runoff from rain. But once that dries up, this would be a great place to come back to.
Avenue
The layout of the course is good however there was not one dry spot of the entire course- whole thing was flooded and under water- the course should have not been opened for business. Cart path only and flooded made the pace of play painfully slow. Took almost 3 hours to play 9 holes!!!
