Ponoka Community Golf Club

The Alberta Golf Association chose the Ponoka Golf Club as one of three venues in the province to host a qualifier round for the 2025 Alberta Senior Championship.

Nestled in the rolling terrain of central Alberta, Ponoka Golf Club offers a most enjoyable and well-balanced round. The course hits the sweet spot between challenge and playability, with a layout that will test your shot-making.

Spacious tee boxes provide golfers a perfect platform to find the generous, well-maintained fairways that wind their way through mature stands of poplar and spruce trees.

The bent grass greens were in excellent condition. Significantly undulated, they ran true and fast, most competitors commenting later in the clubhouse that they were exceptionally challenging. I know, as I had more than my share of three putts.

There are roughly 29 bunkers scattered throughout the course and are well positioned. I happened to find two greenside bunkers and was pleased with how the ball played out from both.

Ponoka Golf Club impresses without trying too hard. The fairways are forgiving, not boring, the greens roll fast and true, and the course design blends seamlessly with the natural landscape with enough challenge to keep your focus sharp. It’s a championship-level course with nice scenery and a layout that rewards precision.

The sizeable clubhouse is home to a well stocked pro shop as well as a full service restaurant. There is a driving range, one practice putting greens as well as a green to practice your bunker and chipping shots.

Had another great round at this course which keeps investing in itself to improve the experience for those who golf there on a regular basis.

The golf course was in good shape and well thought out with moderate elevation changes, some bunkers with soft sand, a few water hazards and large fast tricky greens. It was a real mix of tight and open holes. The price was very cheap considering what Alberta golf with a cart goes for!

A fun track for beginners and experts. Ponoka is well designed and keeps you on your toes. The greens are in excellent shape while also providing a good challenge.
The course does play shorter for most but there is tons of trouble to get into if you are not hitting the ball straight. It is a a tough walk if you are not used to it but does make for a good one if you try. Riding in a cart is also not a bad thing here.
Lots of strategically placed hazards that make for more of a thinking golfers track rather than grip it and rip it. It is a fun course for golfers of all levels and the price is very affordable for everyone.

First time here at the this course and I was not disappointed. The only thing that could have been better is that I booked as a single and a couple was booked with me but they chose to go out without me. Therefore I ended up playing alone and golf by oneself is lonely -- much prefer golfing with others -- even strangers. However, the course and the scenery were wonderful. Many unique holes and not boring at all. Range balls were included with the price so the Golf Now price could not be beat even though I did drive 75 minutes to golf here.
At the end I saw two mother deer and their babies. Beautiful scenery, and interesting holes. No cart girl though.

This course has the feel of a beautiful rural setting (although it is in town). with great golf to boot. The course is in great shape. We loved the variety of holes and challenge of the greens. The greens ran a little slower than expected but are large and contoured.. The staff was friendly and helpful. We will be back!

the fairways are in amazing condition, green are soft and true

Overall a very nice course. Greens were in great shape but a little spotty on some of the fairways. The 7th hole was closed but was replaced by a fun short par 3 'nineteenth' hole. The pace of play was a little slow with waits on most tee boxes and the following group close behind but I think that was due to a slow elderly group ahead. The staff was friendly and although there wasn't a beverage cart on the course the snack shack would provide coolers with ice if needed. I plan on returning and would recommend this fun challenging course.

Course is fairly difficult, have played it many times. Dissappointed in the fairways, very patchy, greens in beautiful condition though. Friendly staff. Would play again once the fairways have all greened up & filled in.

Course has a great layout, some awesomely large greens and is a moderate challenge.
Played on a drizzly day though and the course played INCREDIBLY soft. No run on greens at all. Not sure if that's normal, but something to keep in mind.

Ponoka is generally a good course, however on this day they were punching greens on back nine and had just done front nine and had not top dressed so greens were of course horrible and back nine out of play. Should not have been available for golfnow promotion. Disappointed.

This was our 8th course in five days and it was well worth taking the time to play on our way home. Pace of play was excellent as another family let us go ahead on the 10th. Staff were very friendly and professional. We would come back!!!

Excellent greens and fairways. Slow pace on the first three holes but speeds up after that.
I could easily make this my home course. I am looking forward to my next round.

A very nice course to play in a country setting. Played after 4pm and got around quickly. Excellent practice area, balls included with green fee. The 18 hole course is in very good shape and fun to play for all levels of players thanks to challenging greens and 4 tee box options. Food services staff were friendly with some great food choices. Golf shop staff went out of their way to find a hat that was lost by one of our foursome.... much appreciated and above and beyond the normal service.

Only 2 of us playing so went around quickly until we ran into a foursome on hole 13 and thats also when the rain came but were still able to get done in under 3 hours.

Played this course yesterday. Great value for the money. Fun playing. We never had to wait at a tee box. Nice flow, but not too easy or hard. I will definitely play it again. It was worth the 1 hour drive from Sherwood Park!

Some fairways in less than great condition, probably due to winter's damage.
Course was still a delight to play.
Rough is rough.
Don't stray there.
Hit it straight and enjoy.

the course was being prepared for winter with aeration on the greens and some construction in preparation of a new hole,however,it was very playable and enjoyable.
