Golfer Reviews
Played it twice....
Played here 2 days ago. Course was awesome. Staff was nicer this time. Pace of play was great until we caught the back up of excruciatingly slow players for the back nine. The course was the greenest it's ever been with heavy rains recently. Enjoyed it very much. This course is unique that the front nine is links and the back nine is tree lined. Very challenging.
Best condition it's ever been in!
We come to Ruidoso once a year for many, many years, and always play multiple rounds here. This is the greenest the course has ever been. The front nine is links style with a lot of challenging lies. That back nine is tree lined and like you are at a different course. Our pace of play was excellent because a 4some let us (3) go out ahead of them. Then on the back nine another 3some let us play through. Wonderful experience.
Nice course
I have played this course before. We had to pause playing do to a storm near us. The course was full of wild horses and elk. We had to play around them on two holes.
Mountain course Nico change.
Love the cool mountains at the links. Will go back again.
Don't go During the Offseason
If you want quality don't go during the offseason. If you just want a quick 18 after a work conference then yeah I recommend it. The course was really easy with open fairways and really basic par 3s. You got one over water but the rest are little bloops. Driving range was well kept and nice. Staff was awesome and very approachable. They were still in recovery from the flooding so the back nine was cart path only which was understandable. My biggest issue with the course were the horses and elk. Don't get me wrong I love seeing a little wildlife but they definitely take a toll on the course. Lots of animal scat on the fairways and footprints on the greens. Actually kept one of my drives from rolling into the rough lol. I don't think there's much they can really do about it (it's Ruidoso there's A LOT of animals) so give them the benefit of the doubt. I wasn't able to tee off on 14 because I had a herd of about 40 elk in the way. Overall not a bad course. I can tell that when the season starts the course will be in much better condition. Finished really quick so it's a great solo course if you're looking for an early morning or afternoon round. My tee time was at 2pm and I finished at 4:30pm. Granted I had no one in front of me and I was riding solo. Overall nice experience. I would definitely go back.
Links
I loved this course. Amazing lay out. Challenging holes, but forgiving because of the links style. Won't lose as many balls. Some greens have wildlife damage, but they are still great greens for the price. They roll well. Saw horses and elk on the course so that was pretty cool too.
