Canadian delight
didn't know what to expect, other reviews said it was too short, too noisy (you're next to a major int'l airport - duh!), but I like airplanes and the pictures looked great. Royal Woodbine was an unmitigated delight for me. Yes, it was short - I played the white tees with 3 older local gentlemen, who were extremely pleasant and fun to be around, when I normally would have chosen to play the tips. Conditions were immaculate, rental clubs super nice (brand new Titleist GT2 woods, T350 irons, Vokey wedges, and a Scotty F-ing Cameron putter)! Pace of play was a bit slow, but attribute that to the beautiful weather and lots of players on a Sunday. It's close to downtown, price is reasonable, and other than too many dogleg left holes - I loved it.
Great Course
I read a lot of negative reviews of this course and after having played there, I believe they are unwarranted. It is right next to a major airport, so those complaining about planes need to put the blame inward if they were thinking airplanes would not be present. The greens were very nice. Not overly challenging, but in great shape. Thought the whole course was lush. The tee boxes are in need of care and although I did not spend much time there, the sand traps seemed to have a lot of stones in them. Nevertheless, it is no worse than most munis I play. Beware that almost all of the holes - especially on the front - seem to work right to left. That was pretty challenging for this slice prone golfer. I would definitely come back here in a heart beat.
Central Location within Toronto
It’s a decent shorter course but nothing spectacular. Some very short par 5s, length is not a priority here… more accuracy off tee. A rare course that sends you do not return to the clubhouse until the 18th hole. Greens are large so a laser is necessary - but no one repairs ball marks and the greens speeds are SLOW… !
Royal wood
Waiting at every hole
Throws off your pace
Planes flying over every minute
Annoying
Divets every green
No one is fixing
Wonky layout
If you enjoy hitting your fairway woods off the tee this the is the course for you. I’m not a fan of a corse that doesn’t allow you the option to hit a driver off the tee on par 4 and 5s.
This place went WAY downhill
So it rained heavily the day before around noon so the course had cart path only signs up, despite it being pretty dry, but the young starter decided to absolutely fly off the handle at a couple in a cart that were barely off the path. This was not a stern reprimand. This was someone completely losing their mind and leaving everyone around the starters hut extremely unsettled before even starting our round. We also saw the marshal on basically every other hole it felt like, but I'm not sure what he was doing, as the course was wall to wall packed for one, and also the greens looked like someone did target practise from a helicopter. My playing partners and I each repaired at least a few each hole and it didn't even put a dent in the damage. The tee boxes mostly looked like being level was just a suggestion. So really, given all the attitude, what are you even protecting? At 150 bucks all in with a cart, let's just say expectations were nowhere near met and I'll not only never set foot on the track again, but I'll steer anyone I know thinking of burning their money there to steer clear.
Lakes in bunkers.
Bunkers are lakes. At least 5-6 bunkers were totally filled with water. You could not find your ball if you got into these bunkers. Outrageous. No attempt made to drain these bunkers. The course has done this for years. Nobody mentions these bunker conditions.
Some of the tee boxes were not level.
Great course otherwise. Thanks,
Staff Distraction
Second time plying here. Great course, layout and challenging greens. Distracted several times with marshals riding up very close and started to talk to mates as I was about to tee off. They need to do a better job managing the pace of the course and don’t breathe down on players.
Not great
4 hours for 12 holes.
Very unejoyable. Waiting 10 minutes for each shot. Had to leave as we didnt want a 6+ hour round
