Rusted Rail Golf Club
About
Rusted Rail Golf Course, located about half hour or so southeast of Dallas, has a new name and a new look. Formerly known as Creekview Golf Course, the facility was purchased in July 2017, then renamed and renovated. Reopened in August 2018, Rusted Rail unveiled what is essentially a new golf course with renovations on its 36 bunkers, new Champion Bermuda greens, a new irrigation system and vastly improved conditions, including new cart paths and restroom facilities. Designed by Dick Phelps in 1995, the course can play from around 5,800 yards to more than 7,200 yards. The layout features mature oaks lining many of the holes with elevated greens and mounding. The course also has a stream running through the middle of it as well as ponds that come into play on about a half dozen holes. Additionally, the clubhouse has been completely remodeled and expanded to around 17,000 square feet.

Could be better
This course is consistently busy and should be producing enough revenue to have a great golf course. Work is being done for something, but I couldn’t discern what that was exactly. My big beef is the condition of the greens. To put it bluntly, they SUCK. Rough edges around the holes, dead spots, weeds, and apparently two types of grass in splotches make things unbearable in the most important part of the golf course. You know you have to do better for all the people moving to this area, or a competitor will make you obsolete.
Not worth the money
Greens are putrid, not even a poa annua problem! Simply a lack of care, they were splotchy and not mowed. The rest of the course is fine, there are plenty of water coolers around so it doesn’t get too hot. The course won’t allow 5 somes but will let a 2 or 3 some take 20 minutes per hole. There’s a high possibility that you’ll be playing a 6 hour round. I could give 2 hoots and an holler about the clubhouse and food (they weren’t special anyways). For $80 I want some of the better greens in DFW, hardly ever get that. Sherrill Park and Pecan Hollow are $40 a round and have pristine greens, take notes. Inexcusable for a course that’s out of the way for anyone not in Crandall. They tried telling a friend of mine that they won’t allow him to play if he’s using other people’s clubs, like that makes a difference, they also told us to give them the range balls we didn’t use back because you can’t take them out on the course, mind you the range is right next to the first tee so it was littered with balls. Just a place that doesn’t deserve business in my honest opinion, not when value courses put it in the dirt.
Great Course. Great Value
The course remains in above average condition for area publics though the fairways are still coming out of winter. Layout is great and the staff are awesome! Definitely on repeat for me.
Rusted Rail
My friends and I love this course. It’s a player friendly course, the staff is great and the amenities are above average for public courses.
All in all, a great experience. The only negative at this time would be the condition of the greens. I know is early spring and hopefully they will fill in, in the coming weeks. I would recommend this track to any one.
Nice layout
The course has a nice layout and is very playable. I am 63 and played from the Blue tees and it was very fair. The greens rolled fairly true and were appropriately quick. I would say they were rolling over 10. The greens are a little patchy. I played as a single and was able to play through a couple of groups and that was very nice. The range had decent grass and the putting and chipping greens were very nice.
From Tee to Green, the course is dormant as expected for February in Texas. Greens are overseeded and rolling well. Pro Shop staff and the Starter were very nice as always. We had a single randomly drive by us and jump ahead of us on 2, which was weird. But after the hole he disappeared. Pace of play was about 3 hours 30/45 which is great when you’re sharing the course with others. Carts were clean and ran well. Fun layout for all players. Would always recommend Rusted Rail.
Nice local course
The course and greens are in nice shape for the winter. The course has been improving every year since the new ownership brought this course back to life from years of total neglect.
Fun course in good condition for winter golf. Staff could be little less rude when enforcing rules as it was our first time and didn't see sign about no carts in parking lot and staff yelled at us.
Overpriced
The course is in better shape than it was 4 months ago, but the price has almost doubled since then. There are much better courses closer to the DFW metroplex for half the price. Will not be playing out there again unless there is a hot deal.
Fix the course and price
What a joke of $80. Was $60 two years ago and in 5x better shape. Staff is probably the nicest of any course in the DFW area which might be the only positive. Grounds crew decided to wipe the dew in a 6 foot diameter around the pin. Terrible greens. They were cut maybe 2 weeks ago. First course I’ve ever played that has a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th but on the green. Can’t get your cart until 20 minutes before the round regardless of having 40 available on a half filled day. Don’t worry though, you can take a breezy quarter mile walk to the range downhill and then back up to get your cart. Great warmup if you need one. Used to be weekend favorite for our group. Would rather play duck creek with lefty rental clubs. This is constructive criticism. Fix the course and fix the price.
Nice course
The course is a lot of fun and was in really good shape
