Hurricane cleanup complete, Palmetto Dunes is back

Hilton Head's Palmetto Dunes resort reopens two of its golf courses damaged by Hurricane Matthew

Golf continues to return to normal in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina after October's Hurricane Matthew with a couple more courses coming back on line.

The Robert Trent Jones Course as well the Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Dunes, along with the Palmetto Dunes Golf Academy headed up by Doug Weaver (in video below), all opened Dec. 1 after extensive damage by Hurricane Matthew.

During storm cleanup all three of the resort's layouts were overseeded -- tee boxes, fairways and greens -- so they will be in lush condition and fully playable this holiday season.

"Palmetto Dunes golf is back," said long-time Director of Golf Clark Sinclair. "Golfers are going to find some lush, green courses and no issues with cart paths or anything else. We are very excited."

The third course at Palmetto Dunes, the George Fazio layout, is scheduled to reopen around mid December with special December rates.

Meanwhile, Sea Pines Resort's three courses (Harbour Town Golf Links, Atlantic Dunes by Davis Love III and Heron Point by Pete Dye) have been open for the past couple weeks.

The Heritage Golf Collection's seven golf courses have been reopening with nearly all of them back online.

Just off-island, Fripp Island Resort and all its amenities has been available since Oct. 27. Its acclaimed Ocean Point Golf Links will reopen Jan. 1.
