Reliable as always
Great local legend that’s nearly 100 years in the making. Soft but fast greens with challenging pin placements makes it a challenge despite its relatively short yardage.
Other reviews accurate
Other reviews hit the nail on the head:
- good conditions and challenging greens
- average layout with too many holes too close to each other and/or the road
- staff not the friendliest
- parking lot way too small
We feared a poor pace of play when we saw 6 carts at the first tee and no sense of anyone enforcing tee times. After the first two holes pace was good - surprisingly good since we saw a 7-some — you read that right, 7 in one group— coming down 18 fairway. Would play again, I just won’t go out of my way to do so...
Friendly and Accommodating
Early morning rain had things backed up a bit but the course starter managed it well and made sure groups didn’t have to wait too long
Slow play
There was a 5some holding everything up. 5 hour round that should have taken less the 4 hours.
Play Away
The course is in very good condition and hias extremely difficult greens. Don’t be on the high side of the pin. Was allowed to start before my actual tee time, which was nice, and kept up our pace of play allowing others behind us to get out a little early also, No bothersome course attendant while playing which is great if you keep your pace but might be bad if there is someone playing slow in front of you. One thing that I would suggest is a little bit more friendly personnel in the clubhouse.
Great course. Not great players.
From tee box to fairway and green were just excellent, well maintained. Green is fun to play. Layout is beautiful with the view of the lake on a few holes and challenging enough to make think twice on that "go for it" shots. However, two holes along the street are kind of annoying.
Shirtless, drunk, and inconsiderate players were also there to ruin the joy of playing golf. So drunk that they felt off the cart, horsed around, dropped beer bottle on the fairway. So unfortunate.
Hidden gem.
A great course hidden in Portage Lakes, OH. Well taken care of and pace of play is great for a busy course. Fast greens and a fun layout.
Well maintained
For early spring the greens and fairways were excellent. We have played other courses this spring and none were golf ready like Turkeyfoot. My home course is elsewhere but Turkeyfoot blows it away.
WOOW!!!
Who ever called the police on us for smoking needs to get a life lol. I dont think it was an employee, they were all really nice and cool. Just possibly the mad group of grumpy old guys behind us lol. Or someone who lived on the course. Idk. But made for a interesting round. Nice course!!
Awesome day a Turkeyfoot Lakes
The course basin excellent condition, as always, and completely dry. I drive from Cleveland, Ohio, multiple times during the early spring because the course is guaranteed to be dry...
Very sunny open course
First round of the season. Most courses aren't even open yet. Tee boxes weren't in use yet. Single level temporary tee markers were set outside of tee boxes. Hole markers/maps/yardage/par signs aren't even put out yet. The course was in good shape for beginning of the season. There's not much challenge to it. We played the first 18 - some bunkers, very little water, all fairways are straight, no doglegs at all. Pace of play was extremely slow on the first nine, but improved on the second nine. Staff are very hospitable and friendly. All-in-all, we had a very enjoyable early season round. The price was very good. Otherwise, this isn't one of our preferred choices for courses.
