About
Located in Avon Lake, Sweetbriar Golf Club boasts two scenic 18-hole courses that are routed through natural wetlands and forests. The front nine of the Legacy Course was built in 2002 and the back nine was added in 2007. The nines have different landscapes, creating a diverse set of holes that will have you using all the clubs in your bag. The front nine has a links design with winding fairways and large greens while the back nine was carved from forests. With natural wetland areas and a number of interesting risk-reward par 5s, the back of the golf course has more of an east coast feel. The other 18-hole course at Sweetbriar was built in the 60s. It is shorter than the Legacy but is still challenging, which makes it great for beginners.

Back home
I grew up and worked where this course is. I had not played the Legacy Course before and because it was wet we had to stay on the cart path. Played with my brother and a high school friend and all was well. Don't mind walking as long as you don't walk just a little to hit the ball again.
Ok shape for spring
Still some large areas that it appears they're waiting to plant grass. Large area of one fairway that cuts straight across was basically mud, no signs of grass planted. May have flooded and killed the grass. Greens were good, same with tees.
Great course
Great course and through GolfNow it was very affordable. I am an East sider but I always find my way out to Avon a couple of times a summer to play the Legacy! It's always in great condition and the greens are quick and true.

We've played the Legacy Course a few times but not the Sweetbriar Course. I really like the layout of the Sweetbriar Course. It was REALLY wet when we played and there were a couple spots that were washed away, but then again the Cleveland area hasn't seen to many dry days lately. Kinda tough to get the mowers out when it's that soaked. You don't want to tear up the course this early in the year. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us. My friend was running late and we had another friend join us for the back 9 and the starter got us out, no problem, and the pro had let my other friend join up with us on #7. Top notch facility. Top notch staff. Really simple to get to from the east side and well worth the trip. Wether it's the Legacy or the Sweetbriar Course, this course will get my money again!
Legacy better than ever
Fairways never looked better greens were in great shape. Looks like they have been fixing a few things like sand traps,
Adding and removing some trees on some holes. I wish other top rates courses would invest in repairs the same way.
Great conditions
The course was in very good conditions especially considering it is in early spring. Greens and fairways rolled very well.

This course was average
Though the Legends course is really nice, the older part of the course is just average. Could use some work on some the fairways which it seems they are working on repairing some of it already. This course does have a lot of water hazard, but is manageable if you take your time. The rough between holes and along the fairway is really deep which is a disadvantage for slices or hooks.
Legacy 18 is outstanding!!
I wrote a review early for the Sweetbriar 18, which is an okay course. But of course the Legacy 18 is the course to play here. It is not the longest course, but you will be forced to leave the driver in the bag on a few holes and need to be accurate with your shots. Look about specifically for the ninth, which is by far the sneakiest hole on the course despite the length. The approach in tricky at best, even from the middle of the fairway. The front nine is more Links style and the back nine is carved out through the woods. Both sides are enjoyable to play. Highly recommend the course to all golfers.
I've played a few times late in the season and it was still in pretty good shape. It was pretty wet in some areas, but for fall with a newer course, in a swampy area it is so be expected.
Course was in great shape for this time of year.
It is now fall and the course was in great shape really. Bunkers, tee boxes, greens and fairways were awesome. Also, surprisingly the greens after being aerated just 2 weeks previous were rolling very true and to the typical legacy pace.

I visit family in the area 3 or 4 times a year I have to play this course every time here its fun always in great shape an the price is reasonable
good deal for the money
The course is pretty wide open. I was spraying drives, but always found my ball. That made my score look a lot better than I hit the ball. Some pretty holes. Most holes are really flat in right in front of you and stacked next to other holes.
Have seen it in much better condition
Have played here numerous times including the last 2 weeks. Condition appears to be suffering either from a lack of greenskeeping or too much outing play and ill mannered golfers.
Ranger was either bored or worried about our group as he was annoyingly behind us all day, and we were 2 holes ahead of the group behind us. Will only play here through GOLF NOW as other wise the course is WAY overpriced for what it is. Great clubhouse and bar area, but they miss out by closing the outdoor patio bar way too early in the season. I think if they force the outings to the old Sweetbriar 18, the pristine conditions could be restored.

Course needs better fairway markers other than that it is one of my favorite in northeast Ohio.
Course is on the way out
They are not putting any money in the course, it is in very poor shape. All money in upkeep is going to their legacy course.
Greens are ok, rest pretty bad.
Apart from the greens, the fairways and rest of the course is in a pretty bad shape.
With all the courses in NE Ohio, there are many better options.
I've played this course for a few years and the conditions are worsening. The greens are fine but the problem is with the tees and fairways. I also think the layout is not that good. The deal I got on GolfNow for $27 on a Sunday morning wasn't bad but wasn't worth it due to the conditions. The staff is cordial and the clubhouse is a nice facility. But I don't think I will be returning.
