Sweetbriar Golf Club - Legacy 18
About
Located in Avon Lake, Sweetbriar Golf Club boasts two scenic 18-hole courses that are routed through natural wetlands and forests. The front nine of the Legacy Course was built in 2002 and the back nine was added in 2007. The nines have different landscapes, creating a diverse set of holes that will have you using all the clubs in your bag. The front nine has a links design with winding fairways and large greens while the back nine was carved from forests. With natural wetland areas and a number of interesting risk-reward par 5s, the back of the golf course has more of an east coast feel. The other 18-hole course at Sweetbriar was built in the 60s. It is shorter than the Legacy but is still challenging, which makes it great for beginners.

Excellent conditions for middle of September
There were three VERY slow groups in front of me, including a fivesome (which was occasionally held up by another group of women (this was only a threesome)). I would have panned this course except for the fact of a terrific ranger who ushered me ahead to play two open holes and then returned me back to the holes I had skipped and explained the situation to other golfers.
Very clean greens
Love this golf course. Played at a good pace. Not to fast not to slow. I will play this course again.
The Legacy course.
Our first outing to play the Legacy course was a pleasant surprise. The course is well designed and was in very nice condition. Greens are a step above the average course. Although this course is not long, it compensates with well protected greens and requires accurate tee shots to get into position for approach shots.
Starter Course
Very short course even from the tips. lots of hidden water and over grown trees. most hole if you are 200 off the tee, you have 150 into the green (for me a 7 iron and PW). wasn't thrilled with Sweetbriar, though the greens are well kept. ON the property there is another course that is more worthy of playing think its the Legacy Course-- was a little better, but think there are better courses for the money out there.
Fairways need work, lots of brown spots
Originally I wanted to get a tee time for Legacy and that is what I checked when making the reservation. Then I came to find out it was not - somewhat disappointing. You should take Legacy off the webpage if there are no discounted tee times on the weekends - which is what I was told when I called about it.
The good news is that I shot my best 18 hole round this year!
Good value, needs work.
The greens were in good condition however the rest of the course was in bad shape. This could be attributed to dry weather experienced in the area recently, however, even knowing that, the course failed to meet minimum expectations. The fairways were dried up with a large amount of areas without grass. If you didn't move your ball, you would be hitting off hard dirt. I think there is potential and value for the price but at the time I played I felt the course was below standard.
Great course for the price!
For the price I paid I can't complain. Fairways need work. Many barespots. Greens were in good shape.
Great staff, fast greens and seeing the bevargae girl twice during each nine! Good experience.
Great staff, fast greens and seeing the beverage girl twice during each 9 holes. Ideal Sunday!
good average course
Great staff at check in. Nice course for the 27 bucks spent. Would spend more. Greens are easy to read and smooth but challenging. Scenery is excellent. Will be back to play legacy course. Only drawback is course design. 10th hole has a tree in the fairway. Worth playing.
Short track, but fun to play.
Enjoyable course, but even from the tips it's pretty short. There's very little sand on the course, but several water holes. I was pleased to see there are a good number of holes that make you make a decision. A par 5 with a severe dog leg, a few par 4s with creeks in the fairways and a few that get very tight. Despite my comment on the length of the course, there is a 220 yard par 3. I had played the Legacy course before and I generally think Sweetbriar is a bit over-priced, but if you can snag a decent deal here, this is a fun track.
Legacy - Beautiful Course, Nice Greens
This is the first time I have played this Legacy course and it is very, very nice. The fairways were like a high end country club. The greens ran true. The course gets a lot of play and was crowded when we where there on a Monday afternoon. The clubhouse is beautiful. The round took a little longer than we would have liked, but we will be back for sure.
Always a solid choice
I always enjoy playing sweetbriar. Very "high class" course for the price- great club house, great driving range, fast electric carts, good greens, challenging course but you won't hate playing it.
Excellent condition over all, greens were fast but fair.
I booked a threesome for am start, staff was most helpful in getting us a earlier tee time at no added cost. The Legacy course is very well maintained and my only critical comment would be the bunkers. They left something to be worked on, sand typical of public course not up scale grade like the balance of our experience of the course. Definitely would return.
Sweetbrair 18 - Ok for $23 on a Sunday
The fairways were just plain awful. Numerous burnt out spots, and even some spots that were just dirt. Not much help on yardage markers though. The greens were actually in great shape. I probably wouldnt go back, unless I got the same $23 deal. Legacy course looked nice.. You can tell they sink all the money in to the Legacy course, which makes me wonder why they even have the Sweetbriar 18. It just hurts their brand in my opinion.
the course is ok for the price
considering all the rain we've had I thought the fairways would be in better shape, although the greens were great....the course is tough if you're a beginner and challenging for the average player
Good course
After the amount of rain we have had recently the fairways in low areas has some "issues'". Other than that the course was in good condition. The greens rolled true.
For the price it is worth it!
Can usually play as a single and get done in 3.5 hours with little hang-up. There are some trying holes but most are straight forward with little difficulty. Great course to work on your irons and practice different shots. For the price you can't beat it - Mon through Thur $26 before 1pm and usually you can find it for $20 online. Fairways are on the dry side even after all this rain but greens are in great shape!
This course is damaged from poor weather
The course is in terrible shape. I hope it survives the summer heat for a chance of redemption this fall
very challenging.
Great value for the Golf Now price. Course is tough but fair. The greens were a little chewed up.
Well kept and challenging.
Enjoyed the course. It was well kept and a great layout.
