Horrible cart paths
This is my second time playing the course. I had hoped they would have done something with regards to the cart path conditions…they hadn’t. This course can not be considered among the best in northern Ohio with wagon roads for cart paths.
we were told we needed to play faster because “they wanted to go home” i think that’s a bit crazy considering we paid $75 a person to play the course and you allowed us to book a 12 o’clock tee time. having the marshall following and watching us on the back wasn’t comfortable either considering we had two girls in the group that are still fairly new to the game. we were out there just trying to enjoy the day and a round of golf and that really was probably one of the most unenjoyable rounds i’ve ever played.
Great course but questionable rain policy
We’ve played this course several times before and have always had excellent experiences.
The Restaurant on site is outstanding.
During our most recent round thunderstorms rolled through after eight holes of play. We were promptly issued rain checks for nine holes at that point and decided to have a We were promptly issued rain checks for nine holes at that point and decided to have an early dinner while we waited for the rain to pass. After we finished our food, we checked the radar and looked outside where the rain had tapered completely off. We asked the pro shop attendant if we could simply finish our round and return the rain passes. The guy at the pro shop did not seem particularly inclined to let us back out to finish our round and told me that he would call the boss to see if we could go out and play.
The rain lasted for about 90 minutes and we could see very little standing water on any of the holes visible from the clubhouse.
The clubhouse worker removed himself from hearing range and presumably called his boss after which he returned and told us that there were standing water on the course and since we were the only four players who would be finishing their round they were closing early at 4 PM.
There were in fact, at least three other foursomes who we spoke with on our way out to the parking lot, who are also disappointed that the course was closed and not reopened for round completion.
This leads me to suspect that the clubhouse pro shop workers were more interested in going home than letting groups finish their play for the day.
I cannot say for sure what conditions were across the entire course, but between the tone of the message and the message itself along with discussions between groups that could not finish their rounds it sure seems like we should have been able to finish the round instead of getting nine whole rain checks after finishing eight holes
Pure Challenging Course
This is an actual golf course. Not some muni, very nice just wish there was a range.
Favorite Course in Ohio
I played Valley of the Eagles for the first time last weekend and was very impressed. The course is in a gorgeous setting, very well maintained and challenging while still fun. Great club house as well. I would highly recommend!
Fast Greens
The overall course was in good condition and the greens were well maintained and running fast and true.
Hidden Gem
A bit apprehensive about my review, not sure If want others to know. Great course. Always treated fantastic by the staff. I would play weekly if I lived in the area. A course where you’ll utilize every club in your bag. I can’t say enough about the staff they make you feel more than welcome.
Eagles
Very nice Nicklaus course but paid $80 for cart path only and a 5.5 hour round. Would go again but pace was bad
Deer Valley?
You'll see Deer in this valley everyday, doubtful on the Eagle. Course has been redesigned/rerouted from its original Country Club days (aka Spring Valley). It's still fun to play, and certainly challenging for this old guy (distance deprived). This day was a week or 2 after fall aeration, so the greens were not fully healed, thus pretty slow. I know that when in prime condition, these greens can be really tricky, kinda grainy (which is hard for me to get used to) The "new" holes (#1,5,14,15, 18) are pretty cool with the view of canyon walls & Black River for the water hazard. When the river floods, considerable damage to the course is common almost every year. Staff is awesome & welcoming -- Barry (Pro), Mike (starter), Ken .....,which sometimes isn't the case with us GN Hot Deals. The restaurant --Black River Tavern, bar & patio is a relaxing 19th hole, especially after losing a ball (or 2) on the 18th par5. Oh, I forgot to explain I got paired up with an old friend for 40+yrs ago (we caddied as teenagers), so we had a very enjoyable afternoon at The Valley.
