Good for the price
Hot deal rate was less than $22 with fees included, so you can't really go wrong for 18 holes at that price. Course was in good condition, it just wasn't interesting or challenging. Everywhere there used to be a bunker has no sand and is now grown in with weeds, not sure why. You get relief from these areas, but sand would be better. Also, there's a metal piece within the cup that holds the flag in place and it sits high enough that on a few putts the ball went straight into the center of the cup then bounced right out. I've never seen that on any other course. Both of us who were golfing had it happen and were kind of annoyed and confused by it.
If you're looking for a fancy or challenging course to try out you might be disappointed, but if you just want to get 18 holes in somewhere and you find a good deal here, it will get the job done. Greens and fairway were nice. I would definitely play there again for $30 or less.
Hidden Gem of a course
I really enjoyed the course. The layout was challenging at times. I would not recommend for a beginner just starting out. The one negative is that the bunkers were staring to grow grass but the course suggested a free drop so they may be going away in the future. The staff was great. I would recommend and play in the future.
This is a mix of forgiving and challenging at the same time.
This course rewards good shots and sometimes punishes poor ones. Its a really good mix of tough but fair. One of my favorite to play. A lot of holes sand traps are being converted to grass, but aside from that the course is great. 90 pct of the greens are excellent. Basic maintenance on the course is well done. Good value in my opinion.
Needs a lot of work.
Was really excited to play a new course in my state… the course layout was interesting because you would have shirt driveable greens, then follow it up with mislead doglegs. Upkept tee boxes would have been nice. But the lengthy par 4s to have players struggle takes away from the game. The greens were fun but as an avid golfer, your course shows possible lack of reliable course management with knowledge. Making it fun and challenging would be the best change. Starting with replacing your greenskeeper. I've never seen such poor knowledge and common sense in taking charge of course management. Might have to come back in 5 years to see if anything has changed
Good conditions even with rennovation
Course conditions are good even with several bunkers under rennovation. Greens were fast. Had a great round!
Best bang for the buck
I’ve played here probably 50 times in the last couple years. Shorter course but very fair and great greens. As good as other places in the area that are double the price. You prob won’t go as low as me though
Magic course
This course was very well kept. The practice putting surface was immaculate. Fairways had dark green and light green Shades from being cut to perfection, and the DANCE FLOORS were rolled nicely, and clean without geese damage. As a matter of fact I did not see any geese or a bunch of geese droppings on this course at all.
The elevated and downhill tea boxes along with the scenery was absolutely breathtaking. There wasn't a starter to Hound you around the course, course layout was challenging forcing me to use just about every Club in my bag LOL making my game better.
Staff was very friendly and easy to talk to.
Very good course conditions and exceptional staff
Played this course several times this season already. Very challenging course and in very good condition for early season. The staff are awesome!!!!
Played years ago. About the same. Poor conditions, un-followable track. Made no sense.
Too many blind shots with hidden hazards.
Poor conditions caused ball to bounce uncontrollably in awkward directions.
Brought back youth memories but not again.
Great course, terrible staff
The lady at the front desk was rude due to a mixup in tee-times on their end. Our group was just happy to hit the course but this employee put us off to a bad start. Love the course, but staff could use improvement.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the teams in charge so they can work to make changes. Thanks for visiting Powderhorn Golf Course. We hope to see you again in the future.
Please hire someone that knows how to use weed eater
I have played here for many years very disappointed with the course weeds were so overgrown took away the beauty of the course!! Not worth the money. Sorry to see Course going in this direction!!
Thanks for the review. We see you rated the course 1-star. We take single star feedback very seriously at our course. Our team has plans to remove the weeds from the golf course. This will ensure that the fairways and greens recover swiftly. Thank you for playing Powderhorn Golf Course.
Good course but strange tee boxes
Played with my in laws and most of the women’s and senior tee boxes were in the fairways. Many weren’t level. No idea why they were there. Huge distance advantages for them on some holes
The course has a nice layout, long way from green to tee box
The course was in nice shape except the sand traps, because of the horrible recent rains, they were all full of water and hard
Hello, Nick. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you'll give Powderhorn another try in the near future.
tough day
It is a fairly short course with narrow fairways, a lot of ponds, a creek crossing almost every hole and a lot of blind shots. It has been raining a lot so the rough was thick and balls were hard to locate. Greens and fairways were realy nice. My first time and I think I could enjoy it better if I could play it enough to under stand the layout and played smart golf, but I am not a local. It was fairly crouded and very wet ,90 degree, but the pace was good. To sum it up, you get what you pay for and be prepared to be frustrated if you dont stay in the fairway.
