It’s gotten worse

I recently had the pleasure of playing Meigs Golf Course, and by “pleasure” I mean I paid $18 to participate in an advanced ball-hiding scavenger hunt.

The fairways are designed with a unique feature: if you hit a decent shot, your golf ball immediately disappears into another dimension. Finding your ball is less about golf and more about developing search-and-rescue skills.

As for the greens—well, calling them greens feels generous. They putt more like bunkers with commitment issues. Every putt is an adventure, and reading the break requires a degree in topography and perhaps divine intervention.

The course itself has potential, but the terrain is so lopsided that first-time players might think they’re golfing on the side of a mountain. Forget reading greens—I’m still trying to read the fairways.

For the bargain price of $18, you can leave having lost half your golf balls, all confidence in your short game, and gain one overwhelming feeling: relief that you don’t have to play the course again.

This is rapidly becoming one of my favorite places to play. The course is well maintained staff very friendly and there is seldom a feeling of being rushed when playing here.
