Rawiga Golf Club

Played this course as part of a golf trip to/around the Cleveland area in late May 2023. This course was included on our itinerary based on its listing as a Top Course by Golf Advisor.

PACE: The 4some ahead of us paced us to a 2+ hour front 9. They let us play thru on #10 (Thank you!), and we finished the back in 1hr 15 min. The layout of this course (and trees) probably leads to many 4+ hour rounds.

CONDITIONS: Tee boxes were okay... some divots and patchy spots. Fairways and rough were good. Bunkers were really good. The greens are fast and their edges are bottle-capped... so enjoy watching your overzealous pitch shots roll right off the green!

STAFF: Friendly and helpful. Didn't see a starter or ranger on a Saturday morning... found that to be different.

VALUE: Very fairly priced course.

LAYOUT: Played the White tees (6,300). Hole #1 is not a warm handshake... it's an aggressive play up a steep hill. After that, the property flattens out for the most part. The front 9 has few fun short par 4s, and both par 5 are long and well tree-lined. The back 9 plays the same, except the stretch of 15 thru 17... that's fun! Hole #16 is a well deserved 1 handicap!

Read online that Rawiga was purchased by the Veteran's Cemetery next door, and the course may not be around 10 years from now. Given it's classic architecture, playability, and challenge I'll have to try to play it again before that day comes.

We booked a round a few days out for 18 holes. No mention of the massive gold league event they had going on until we started. It's unfair to sell 18 holes under those circumstances. We made the turn and there was a line of 40 golfers getting ready to tee off. I don't fault them for having a league just don't sell people times that could conflict with that (only offer 9 holes during times that would come up against their start time). The staff did inform us of this as we were about to start but that didn't really help as I paid days in advance. It's unfortunate because the course was in good shape and I enjoy playing there. It's just bad management and unfair to customers. I'm not suggesting it was anything malicious just worth noting if you plan on playing there.

Good course layout. Staff is nice and friendly. Course is old school, but not in a bad way. Greens roll very well. Personally, I drove 45 minutes to the course to check it out because I always like playing new courses when I can. Pace of play can be slow sometimes, but nothing too extreme. Overall, I wouldn’t pay over $30 for a round here. If you get a good deal for the rate, try it out.

My son and I have been looking for a course that is good for both mid and high handicaperd and is equidistant between East Liverpool and Columbus. Rawiga is 1:40 minutes for both of us and though you have to be on your game to score low, misshits don't always mean penalties. The greens were the best I've played in a while, and overall conditions I would say were excellent. We both agreed that we'll play there again.

This course was private at one time. Excellent layout and rolling terrain. Greens are quick and undulating. Sand traps are fair, but at least raked and free of debree.As most public courses, no one on the course to keep play moving, pass out water, or answer questions. Your on your own out there. Fortunately, better players there and play moves along.

Course is usually in good condition but the drainage of the course isn’t well. I played Turkeyfoot the day before and night and day difference. Turkeyfoot greens and overall course conditions were great.

The course was a mess with many trees and tree branches down and debri everywhere including the greens. The course should have been closed for clean up and to dry up

I didn't play this course on 3/5/23. They were not allowing carts out and won't be for a couple of weeks . I attempted to cancel and call but haven't gotten anywhere.

Didn't play this course today, showed up 30 minutes prior to tee time, it was a ghost town, 3 cars in the parking lot. No carts on the course, spoke with someone there and they said they have been having issues with golf now advertising rounds with carts. He said they aren't putting carts out for at least another 2 weeks. I have spent the last 6 hours trying to get a credit or refund.

Paid for 18 but left after nine because conditions were so poor. Tee boxes not marked and in bad condition. No attempt was made to clear leaves so hard to find ball even if in fairway.
