Surrey Hills
The most important thing about this course was the cost, glad I didn't have to pay more. The worst thing was the greens to me there were only 2 greens that were in good condition. The greens were playable but with lots of dead spots and rough spots. The bunkers were not raked and several had grass growing inside. For $18 it was playable. There was one temporary green that we were not told about before the round. The score card had greens with sections 1, 2,3 but no pin sheet.
Eh, it was ok...
Not a bad course just not a good course right now. Lots of the greens had bare spots, fungus, and weeds. Course has a nice layout and challenging fun holes but just can't get past the greens. As far as scenery I'd give it a 6 out of 10, not bad not great.. if your in the area and can play for under $ 20 go for it otherwise there's better options.
Beautiful Course
One of the prettiest courses in the OKC Metro, Surrey Hills offers a wide variety of play. Well laid out with open fairways and nice greens. The course is constantly improving. It's a fun course!
Suprising
The fairways were immaculat firm and cut short the rough was cut shorter than the last time I played and the greens were firm fast and true. It felt like a TPC course.
Needs a thorough trash removal program and GUR delineations are non-existent at the moment!
The overall golfing experience could be greatly enhanced by removing the junk (mostly rotting limbs, uprooted scrubs, etc.) that fill the water hazards and their embankments. In addition, some of the landscaping work appears to be abandoned and is directly in the normal line of play without any forewarning or GUR alternative specified. On the other hand, fairways and greens are in decent shape and my review would be more positive if the overall ambience was not overshadowed by the trash piles found on quite a few holes.
Glad course is available to public again
Played 18 holes and had no issues. Hole 3 is under repair, so there is a temporary green. It appeared as though it would be open soon. Fairways were in pretty good shape, greens good. There were a few bad spots in the greens, but all in all, I will definitely play there again. The sand was packed fairly hard and not real easy to get out of. (not sure you should be there anyway) Value was really good, especially on GolfNow. Played on a Wednesday, and the bar and restaurant both were open.
Under construction
Apparently this course is under construction and they should charge accordingly. Hole 3 is a joke. No course maps do for a first timer you don't know where you should be playing.
Not as good as OKC public courses
Really just not a very good course and they're trying to charge to much to play it, especially considering there's a temporary hole right now on #3. It's really a terrible practice for courses to charge full price when one of the greens is being re-done and they never told me which is lying and very misleading. Any OKC public course, including Earlywine S and Lincoln E are better.
Course Is Coming in to Its Own
Given all the rain that we've had lately, there were a few mushy spots, but nothing that would ruin your day. The greens were aerated about three weeks ago and are still having a slight waffle iron roll when you putt on them, but they're in fantastic shape! I would say they will be back to their regular great shape in no more than two weeks from now.
The course itself is lush and in really nice shape. It's certainly coming into its own and should be one of the nicer courses in the metro to play in a couple of years. They are building another 9-hole course at that same location which could possibly be playable this fall.
There's only a few negatives I would say about this golf course and they are not by any means deal-breakers:
1). The chipping green is being re-sodded, so it cannot be used at the moment. The guys in the Pro Shop said if I wanted to hit pitch and runs on the regular putting green (just nothing above waist-heighth) I could, which I thought was very accommodating on their part.
2). The par-5 3rd hole in my opinion is their signature hole. It's a reverse-S and you have to hit up to a two-tiered green that is about 20 or 30 feet above your head across a small creek. You can't see the green until you hit your third shot. I guess it would be possible to make it in 2 on this hole, but you'd have to be REALLY long to do so. This green is being re-sodded at the moment so there is a temporary green right before you hit across the creek to the regular green. It definitely takes the challenge out of the hole, because you're almost guaranteed a birdie if you can keep your ball in play.
3). The sand traps still need a lot of work. In fairness to the groundskeeping crew, it might be because of all the rain we've had as of late and the sand just got washed out of them. There wasn't a whole lot of sand in the bunkers and those that did have sand, it was compacted into concrete because it was so wet. I still would not consider that a deal-breaker.
The staff was nice and easy to talk to, as well as being very helpful.
The pace of play is about what you would expect playing any golf course on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. We got around in just over 4 hours which is not bad in my opinion for a weekend day of golf.
All in all, I would definitely play dthis golf course again without hesitation. You can tell the grounds crew is working very hard to make this golf course not only beautiful to look at but a joy to play.
Bad course.
I wont ever place this course again. The greens where terrible and the tee boxes had no grass and the cars way where not very thick to hit your ball from. This course has gone down hill since I played it last.
poor customer service
Booked online showed up they said I would have to share a cart with someone else my wife came along made me pay extra twelve dollars. The online booking said cart and green fee included not half cart and green fee. Greens sucked. Nicki in the bar was very nice and the young man cleaning clubs and filling the sand on cart was to. They should think about letting him run pro shop instead of the guy that was in there at 1100 Sunday morning. drove from Guthrie wont do that again. We have great courses with excellent customer service
Great Day in February
80 degrees in OKC today and had a great time at Surrey Hills Golf Course.
Expected More
This was my first time playing the course. First off there was no clear indication of how to get to the driving range. The course had a few greens we couldn't putt on because the sprinklers wouldn't shut off but, the biggest problem is the trash all over the course and peoples yards. The course lay out was it's best feature.
