Have a new greens guy, he has done an excellent job from previous one, the course keeps getting better, greens are big and great to putt on. The fairways are excellent, love the way they keep it mowed and trimmed. Wonderful layout with lots of character, not a boring course, each hole is a different challenge in itself.
Bunked Bunkers
The bunkers were the worse part. The sand was too deep to walk through yet along take afterwards. The new cars were better than the gasoline cars they used to have. The group in front were too slow. The cart girl refused to stop when asked. Waved her down on hole 11, she made a sinister remark and kept going. Never saw her again. 95 degrees outside!
New greens ??
Was told had new greens , they where very slow and a few greens where not in good shape ! The rest of course was in good shape ! New golf carts , staff great as always !
Greens? More like sands...
I hate to be critical of golf courses, but I've never seen greens in such bad shape. I don't know if there was a fungus problem or what, but I can't call them greens. The sprinklers also came on while we were putting, twice - and it was around 4 pm. Fix the greens and I'd probably play here again.
Nice course...need help!
The course layout is excellent and staff is very friendly. Course greens need help after irrigation issues. I am looking forward to playing this course when the greens are back. I may even tender a membership...GM seems to be very nice and friends expressed satisfaction with their overall experience. I WILL PLAY AGAIN!
not in great shape
there are cows roaming the course and most of the greens are in rough shape. they should be charging about $10 to play this course in the current shape it is in.
What A Difference 2 Months Makes!
I played this course almost two months ago to the day and it was lush!
The greens were in fantastic shape, the fairways firm but not hard and the rough wasn't too overgrown. The course has had a reputation for being in really bad shape (many call it Sorry Hills) for several years and the greenskeeping crew there was really starting to turn it around. It saddens me to see what has happened to the greens in the space of just two months.
The third hole which I think is their signature hole, was the only hole on the entire Golf Course having work done on it when I played it 2 months ago. The green was being redone at the time, so we were playing a temporary green back then. It's still the same situation today.
I'm not sure if it's the type of grass being used on the greens at the golf courses in this part of the world (Central Oklahoma), but courses all over this area are losing their greens to rot & mold.
I was stunned at the poor shape the greens were in during my most recent round. They've completely lost every green on the front nine. There are bare spots and mold everywhere on the greens. I don't believe there is a single putt over 6ft on any of the greens on the front nine that you don't have to put through some sort of bare spot, damage or mold. The back nine is a little better, but those greens are starting to show the same problem.
I can't imagine how the members must feel there because they're paying membership fees for a golf course that shouldn't be charging more than $15 a round. Yes, it's in that bad of shape.
The fairways and the rough are fine and they've even done a good job on the majority of their bunkers. For some reason, again in this part of the world, most of the sand traps are like concrete, have no drainage and very little sand in them. For the most part, these bunkers were mostly in playable shape. That's saying a lot because we've had a ton of rain here over the last three weeks.
My impressions of the golf course are that they've totally written the rest of this season off and they're just trying to get to the winter time when they can redo all of their greens.
Despite all of these negatives, the clubhouse staff is really friendly, helpful and nice.
It pains me to write such a negative review, because I was really rooting for this golf course to turn it around and it seemed it was doing so by the end of June.
I'm not sure what happened, but if what has happened at other courses around the metro area who have lost their greens, this golf course is going to have a rough next couple of years getting their greens back in playable shape.
Poor green conditions
I have golfed this intermittently in the past and enjoyed the round. This most recent time, though, the greens were in terrible shape from winter kill. I wasn't warned, and all in our group were charged full rate. I expect value in return for my money when the course is expensive and some distance from me. I didn't get it.
Never Again!
I played this course once before and don't remember it being in this bad of shape. The entire course was in rough shape, especially the greens. They were so bad, we enacted the 2-putt rule once you got on the green. Whoever is in charge of their green maintenance should be fired. They had also set up a new/temporary green that was just a circle mowed in the middle of the fairway with a huge hole. Very tacky and unputtable. Also had some quirky holes that if you had not played the course before, you would have no idea where to air. Obviously, we will never venture out to this course again.
Poor Shape
The greens were a good mix of sand, dead grass and green grass. Also they're waiting too long to mow around the greens and therefore the clumps of grass are everywhere. And the bunkers. Those are supposed to have sand, not dirt in them, correct?! Not worth the Hot Deal this time around. Definitely not worth full price anytime. Way nicer courses in the area for same money.
Needs some help
No water coolers on the course, bridges in need of desperate repair. There are many more options in the OKC area for quality golf.
Surrey Hills
The most important thing about this course was the cost, glad I didn't have to pay more. The worst thing was the greens to me there were only 2 greens that were in good condition. The greens were playable but with lots of dead spots and rough spots. The bunkers were not raked and several had grass growing inside. For $18 it was playable. There was one temporary green that we were not told about before the round. The score card had greens with sections 1, 2,3 but no pin sheet.
Eh, it was ok...
Not a bad course just not a good course right now. Lots of the greens had bare spots, fungus, and weeds. Course has a nice layout and challenging fun holes but just can't get past the greens. As far as scenery I'd give it a 6 out of 10, not bad not great.. if your in the area and can play for under $ 20 go for it otherwise there's better options.
Beautiful Course
One of the prettiest courses in the OKC Metro, Surrey Hills offers a wide variety of play. Well laid out with open fairways and nice greens. The course is constantly improving. It's a fun course!
Suprising
The fairways were immaculat firm and cut short the rough was cut shorter than the last time I played and the greens were firm fast and true. It felt like a TPC course.
Needs a thorough trash removal program and GUR delineations are non-existent at the moment!
The overall golfing experience could be greatly enhanced by removing the junk (mostly rotting limbs, uprooted scrubs, etc.) that fill the water hazards and their embankments. In addition, some of the landscaping work appears to be abandoned and is directly in the normal line of play without any forewarning or GUR alternative specified. On the other hand, fairways and greens are in decent shape and my review would be more positive if the overall ambience was not overshadowed by the trash piles found on quite a few holes.
Glad course is available to public again
Played 18 holes and had no issues. Hole 3 is under repair, so there is a temporary green. It appeared as though it would be open soon. Fairways were in pretty good shape, greens good. There were a few bad spots in the greens, but all in all, I will definitely play there again. The sand was packed fairly hard and not real easy to get out of. (not sure you should be there anyway) Value was really good, especially on GolfNow. Played on a Wednesday, and the bar and restaurant both were open.
