Cherry Creek Golf - The Links Course

Had a perfect weather day and, except for the recently aerated greens, the entire course is in great shape. Interesting variety of holes and enough length from the whites for shot making challenge.

The expected crappy greens played true and fast prior to the aeration.

Compared to the regional public courses, Cherry Creek is one of the best values ( despite the $20 pp cart charge ) and, overall offers a more satisfying overall experience. Expect 4:30 or so to complete.

If you care to test you length, head East to Riverhead where you will find 7100+ Cherry Creek, with not one but two holes that top out at 600+, one of which is the 644+ par 6, that’s right, par 6 18th.

That’s Cherry Creek’s gimmick, it’s length. Most holes are fairly wide open from whichever tee box you frequent. It’s a links course in name only, there are plenty of trees to find yourself dealing with especially if you’ve cranked down the lift of your driver and spend the day swinging out of your shoes. From the blues, 10 of the 14 par 4’s play well over 400.

The layout is languid , gentle doglegs and gentle hills. The greens are potentially this courses strong point, but in this day they had just been aierated, resulting in a miserable putting experience on sandy, holey greens, running super slow in the morning dew, much faster as the dried out, and completely unpredictable. I’d consider playing again if the greens were up to snuff, on this day they were a total horror show.

There is a full grass range facility which is terrific, and gives you a chance to get your driver going, theres even a great spot to practice chipping and pitching as well as bunker shots . They had not put cups back in the practice putting green.

Overall I’m glad I got the hot deal, I would not pay more than $40 to play here. What the course lacks in charm it makes up for in length. It’s a big hitters ballpark, and who doesn’t love a couple 600+ yard holes? And it’s always nice to play a par 73.

overall good condition. some greens had some issues with worn spots and some small dents and gouges, not from normal play. overall good.

The course is maintained fairly well. Greens usually roll nicely and the fairways are good too (although not sure they roll them). The range is grass which is nice. The course layout is good but for my game the whites are too short and the blues are slightly too long. In my opinion, for this price range, this is one of your best options.

My son and I had a 4:24 starting time. We checked in with the starter, went to the driving range, and worked our way back to the first hole at around 4:15. The first hole was empty, we stopped to get a scorecard, and were shocked to see two men teeing off in front of us. We found the starter who said that they had a 4:36 starting time, never checked in with him, and ditched us. IMO he should have kicked them off the course for that and have been more present near the first hole (He had walked away). WE waited for them on every single hole but for the ninth. They were older men who played poorly and dropped balls all over the place to take extra shots. The course needs to have better supervision. It ruined the round for us.

The only issue is the cost of a cart went up.

Cherry Creek Golf Links in Riverhead was an enjoyable golf course. They have a great driving range where you hit off of grass rather than artificial mats. The tee boxes, fairways & greens were in very good condition. The greens are cut at a very nice speed (not too slow, not too fast). Although, I am not a fan of their 18th hole because it is a Par 6 (should be a Par 5), I would definitely recommend this golf course.
