Apollo Elks Country Club

About
Apollo Elks Country Club, situated just northeast of Pittsburgh, is considered one of the area's must-play golf courses. It has appeal for a wide range of skill levels with a layout that is challenging enough for seasoned golfers but also not too difficult for beginners to approach. There is an interesting mix of holes ranging from reachable par 5s to short, tough par 3s and each hole has a distinct character. The greens are fast and the gently rolling terrain provides some subtle breaks that can be tricky. Bunkering is sparsely but strategically placed along the fairways and greensides. There are also a few water hazards that come into play at Apollo Elks Country Club. The round has plenty to hold your attention but don't forget to stop and admire the beautiful western Pennsylvania scenery.

Not enough carts
Tee time was at noon. No carts available had at least a one hour wait for cart
Great layout
The course has a great layout and should not be judged by the parking lot.
Be Careful!!! - WALKING RATES - Slip of the Hand
Be careful. Watch, these are walking rates. They are trying to do a slip of the hand. Most courses post green-fees and cart fees together to help the budget minded GolfNow member compare and contrast at the same level.
It must get old after a while telling each GolfNow member that plays this course that "now that you are here, you need to pay cart fees". Yep, you can get me once, but not twice. Will not return ............
Good old style course
The course was in great shape, no wet areas and everything was well maintained
This course is old style, either straight with some sand for hazards to work around or dog legs left or right . This adds challenges for the good players but not to tough for higher handicap or new players.
Always like to play this course at the beginning of the season to get back into the golfing season after a winter off.
Ugliest course I’ve played
Dried out fairways. Unsafe cart dirt trail. Two enormous piles of rubble. Inconsistent greens. Fairways have never been watered. Can’t believe they charge money for this course. Nice staff.
Apollo Elks
Course in good shape considering drought.
Pace was terrible, a foursome ahead of me was horribly slow. No ranger.
Out of towners
I’m used to play mid to high end courses in Central Indiana. 12 hdcp
Pros- gorgeous weather, course has mostly recovered from a severe heat wave.... the fairways had burnt up patches but was still pretty good. The greens were plush and true! The staff was friendly and accommodating. Great course layout- picturesque and semi- open.
Cons- the cart paths were treacherous half the time but manageable.
Overall- great course and worth the coin. Will return when in the area.
Great Greens
The greens keeper, Bob Rosenberger, is to be commended for the superb condition of the greens! They made it a pleasure to play!
Course I’m great condition as always
I play here frequently. The heat we have seen over the past month has tormented most courses in the area. Apollo Elks greens are still immaculate and the course is overall in great shape. The fairways are a little dry, but all of the 90+ degree days we have had will do that.
Overall a great experience and value for the money. Will be back for sure.
