Slower than a tortoise
Overall course condition was quite good especially the greens. Bunkers not so much. Why not convert these to grass bunkers and leave them in deep rough. Took 5 hours to play a round and despite there being ample staff there was no course Marshall. Can not recommend this course unless pace of play is improved. Also scorecard did not accurately reflect par score on several holes.
Disappointed
The course in average condition. The bunkers were unplayable and the greens were furry and slow. The biggest problem with the course is that almost every non par 3 was a blind hole or shot. There were no markings or signs with direction or distance to where we should hit the ball. The course played cart path only which made yardages a complete guess all day long. The workers offered no help or guidance. Definitely not worth the money.
Reasonable fee but …
Pace of play was horrible. Shouldn’t take 5 hrs to play a round of golf. No evidence of a course Marshall. Greens and fairways in great shape. Tee boxes average at best. Would probably be better if they put some turf repair mix in the EMPTY green containers at the tee boxes. Bunkers were in horrible condition similar to many courses. If you can’t maintain them why to convert them into grass pot bunkers. Leave the grass extra long makes them just as challenging as sand bunkers perhaps even more so. Scorecard was wrong with respect to par score on several holes. A 400 + yard hole on front 9 was a par 4 and 2 sub 400 yard holes on back 9 were par 5s. Explain that one. Although $50 is a reasonable green fee I can’t recommend this course to friends.
Fun Course
Great views and a fun course in the mountains. Very friendly staff.
Highlands at Hidden Valkey
Worth the drive from Pittsburgh. 60 miles was worth it. Tougher than most but fair! Has Great potential if given the chance by the owners. Give it a try!!
A scenic, fun , challenge
Great layout. Beautiful greens, carpet like, were a little slow today bit rolled true. Challenging holes with some breathtaking elelavation changes. Rough a little high today but fairways perfect. Sand traps were excellent. No parallel fairways. Tree lined but plenty wide.
Good overall in the country
Nice course in the valley in between some forested hills. Would be spectacular in fall.
Was in generally good shape. Some nice variety and not too tough. Amenities looked good even if a bit outdated.
A good option to try.
Challenging course
Layout is confusing. Some tees are marked Ok but some were not clearly marked, so we spent more time driving around than we cared for.
The greens were bumpy just not in the best shape.
Having said that the views are stunning.
Great layout. A must play
Once again the course was in great shape despite aeration recently. The staff was friendly and the course was not overly busy.
Wanted to get the usual weekend package but couldnt. seems the new owners have no lodging at HV for summer and want you to stay at 7 Springs where there is a 2 nite minimum stay on weekends. Also noticed greens fees went up and the course is no longer on Golf Now. Food and beverage increased as well.
Great Day
Very nice course in excellent condition. Craig, the course professional, is very friendly. The views are the best of any golf course in Pennsylvania. Perfect fall day and played in just over 3 hours. It doesn't get any better.
Great, but.....
I had a 7:15 tee time and the place was practically shut down. Not sure if it was an error on the part of the course or this website but obviously the two weren't communicating. The guy in the pro shop didn't think he had any tee times until 8 am. I purposely got there early and booked an early tee time because I had other plans in the afternoon so that kind of put a damper on things. Luckily I was still able to get out first and finish in time.
The greens were in amazing shape! Very impressed. Unfortunately on the back nine I guess the mower got lazy though and at least 6 holes didn't put the flagstick back in - I should always aim for the middle of the green anyway but its nice to know where the pin is!!
I would have like to have seen some of the leaves in the fairways cleaned up too. I lost probably 3 balls in the fairway!
Granted I was the first one on the course that day, but it all goes back to what I originally said - if someone books a tee time at 7:15, have the course READY for them to play it.
Fantastic always, and now autumn!
This is such a beautiful golf course in every season...exceptionally maintained, elevation change without side-hill lies, varied and interesting layout...and now add a burst of fall color to the already charming vistas! Maggie in the pro shop is a gem and treats GolfNow folks with a genuine smile. This course is a joy to play in every sense and couldn't be a better value at GN pricing. It's an hour drive for me but very well worth it.
can't play just once
greens and tees are plush great course from the tips you can hit driver and score but errand tee shots will be a lost ball I highly recommend I'm in the 70's wherever I play and this is well worth the drive and money
Beautiful vistas!
The course is fairly challenging with woods on each side of every fairway. The greens are medium to small in size and are somewhat undulated. Fairways are pretty wide but there's not much forgiveness beyond and there is a good bit of water and sand along the course. The conditions of the course are not "championship" in nature but you'll enjoy a very unique round with beautiful views from nearly every hole.
This course is well maintained and many beautiful mountain views.
We were expecting steeper and more angled fairways but were pleasingly surprised to find them spacious and well maintained. The course has many hills but works them into play very well. The bunkers had real sand and not the hard packed play box sand found in many Western Pennsylvania courses.
