Golfer Reviews
Great Views, narrow landing angles
I arrived to the course and was greeted with a friendly smile. The pro in the pro shop was knowledgeable and friendly as well. The golfers I was paired up with were very helpful and familiar with the course. I found the golf course very challenging with tight landing areas. I had to hit the shot i wanted or was penalized severely. I was required to thing about all shots I was playing. I enjoy that even if it did beat me up at times. I would recommend playing this course if you can keep the ball straight. Not a course I would play everyday but enjoyable to play on a monthly basis.
Split Rock on the Fourth of July
I took my wife to experience this Pocono mountain gem. We were greeted by many scenic holes and some diversified wildlife. She was able to have many playable holes. I would recommend using the yardage books because of the elevation changes on many holes. Have discussed another round with friends already.
Mountain golf
Nice track, tough play for a first timer...once you know the layout the course would play much easier. There is more room than you think from the tee boxes. Enjoy the scenery and pack a few extra eggs.
This course challenges all your skills.
Split Rock is an excellent golf course that is well maintained. It's very undulating and scenic and anyone who plays for the first time will definitely wants to go back.
Plush Fairways Spongy Greens
Put your driver away. You could probably play this course without it. Elevation changes and doglegs take it out of play. Measures longer than it plays. Nice views and several picture worthy holes. Fairways were crisp and the greens were soft to the foot. Only complaint is they rolled pretty slow. Definitely would play again and feel with a little more local knowledge I could shave 7-10 strokes.
Very nice course
First time playing the course. Unfamilir with the course but overall very nice layout.
rough winter in to Spring
Although Pennsylvania winter was not kind to area golf courses this past year Split Rock golf course was in the poorest shape of area courses I've played. Fairways were thin with poor growth. Greens had just been aerated the week before and no aeration alert posted in GolfNow. The course is very scenic with gorgeous views and may deserve another look later in the season.
Terrific mountain course
Excellent Pocono mountain golf. Terrific fairways for this early in the season. Greens were recently aerated but we knew this prior to booking a teetime. Interesting holes and fast play. Sandtraps could use some attention, but it is early in the season. We played the front 9 on the North and the South course. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The clubhouse was nicely decorated and the food and drink was excellent after the round. Great afternoon of golf. Highly recommended.
Great course
Very nice course. Hard if you can't keep your ball in the fairway.
Very well designed course
Course was in pristine condition, except for the leaves which made it sometimes difficult to find a ball hit in the ruff cut. Blame it on Mother Nature.
first time at Split Rock
first time
was very exciting
course was great but not for first time player
has lot of hidden spots
but it i play a bit more it will be very challenging
Great views and several great holes.
This course is your normal mountain course with un level lies and high slope rating. Greens are tough because there are no straight putts. Tough course to play the first time and the course is not marked well with yardages. This course should has GPS on its carts. Several times I hit into trouble because not knowing yardage to the hazard. Sand traps can use a little attention.
Perhaps play this course early spring
The staff wasn't very friendly I never got a "good morning" just "can I help you". For the price I paid i expected much better fairways. Nearly each shot in the fairway had to be moved to a place where we could find grass. The greens were in good shape. I won't be returning to this course probably never.
Really nice layout.
Split Rock has a great layout. It is reasonably tight on several holes requiring something accurate but not always long. Greens are in great shape as are the fairways. If you hit inaccurately you are going to want to bring many balls along. We had electric carts which I really like. The course is in generally great shape but I just can't go as far as to say pristine as that is reserved for only one or two courses I have ever played.
great layout different type of playing not a bunch of flat lies
the course has a few bad spots but overall good cond. the greens need a few more weeks since work was done.
Great little course on top of the mountain
Challenging course that requires the golfer to make shots. TJerseyse plays much different from the pro and championship tees. I would suggest playing from the whites if its your first time on the course. Some of the fairways had a few trouble spots but you see could evidence of the maintenance crews attention. The greens were very well maintained and challenging. One thing to note for the early golfer. I had an 8 am tee time and the fog on the course was very thick. I would say visibility was probably about 25 yards. But it cleared up around 8:45. All in all great little course on top of the mountain that requires the golfer to make shots. Officially my favorite course within 90 miles of northern New Jersey.
