Poor conditions for a Private Course!
As a former member, course conditions are not what I would expect from a private course. Sand traps are full of stones and basically unplayable. Poor drainage leaves puddles in traps for days when there’s rain. Overall course drainage is poor, soggy ground is a regular on this course. I decided to leave this club because it was embarrassing taking guests there and having to explain these poor conditions. Honestly public courses have better traps and drainage.
This is an extremely nice course
Played Schuylkill Country Club today in a county level am tourney. Very, very nice 100 year old Donald Ross course, in perfect shape, and with a very, very nice facility, and a very good staff. Sometimes, the private clubs that host Am tourneys are less than hospitable to we "intruders", but here, everyone was super nice and, welcomed us to pay cash to enjoy a nice lunch on the deck after our round, The course is excellent, totally fair, in perfect condition, with quick, tricky, interesting greens. If you have a chance to play this course, don't hesitate. Take a moment to consider that the players 100 years ago had to negotiate the same course with wooden shafts and rubber band golf balls.
