Great condition
Even though so late in the season, the course is still in great condition. Only downside is, with all the fallen leaves, at times it’s tough to locate your ball. Other than that, greens and fairways are in good shape.
Well maintained course
The first time in 22 years playing here and it has matured into a very nice course. Playing in the fall with the great views and vivid colors made for a picturesque morning at the Elks. I played solo behind a pair that would not let me play through. I would wait until they cleared the greens to start a hole and be finished before they finished teeing off... I ended up skipping the 13th hole to get around them which was worth it, and taking advantage of the “Hot Deal” of the day, it was financially justified!
The clubhouse: bathrooms were very clean.
I will be back to play the Elks.
Interesting back nine!
The front nine was a pretty normal layout but the back nine had some very unique and beautiful holes! Nice fast greens! Only drawback was the tee boxes were very uneven but we'd definitely play the course again!
well maintained course
Great golf course on the edge of the Black Hills. Course will give up a few birdies. It will also deal out double and triple bogeys if you're no careful. Fun course to play. Fairways and greens in excellent condition.
Good and Bad Course
My girlfriend and I played a round of 18 to see if we would like the course enough to purchase a membership, being our first time we went into the restaurant next door on accident where the woman kindly pointed us to the pro shop to check in. Upon arrival in the pro shop I knew how the staff was, we entered with smiling faces and they looked back at us blank. Talking about staff the cart girls we’re kind and always smiling! We checked in and all we got was “keys are in the cart”. Halfway through the course we are driving to the fairway to get to a ball and come about 15 yards right of the white tee box. A staff member quickly speeds to us and says no more driving on the tee box as if we were doing it on every hole, even though we didn’t do it on that hole! All I would say if maybe the ground crew cared about their tee box’s as much as they claim they would fill in divots and maybe make them even! The woman staff was great but I guess all the men that work here think they will be joining the PGA tour soon and are to cool to be nice guys! The people in front and behind us were both great groups and very nice, we did not meet one mean golfer at this course! With that being said my girlfriend and I will be looking elsewhere for a membership!
average course
course was flat for the most part. Greens were smooth and tricky due to lots of undulations. Overall not a bad course.
Beautiful Day
Greens in great shape. Back 9 greens are tough. Undulations, sloped edges, and false fronts for the ball to roll off. Fairways average to above. Not cut real short. Some tee boxes aren't the most level. Traps in good shape, some had water from the previous night rains. Watch out for a couple blind tee shots as they're are hazards closer than realized.
Target Golf Course
First time playing this course and I’m ready to join. This was a great course to play. 5 par 3’s. 5 par 5’s. And with so many holes taking some artwork to reach the green in regulation, without using a driver. Challenging but fun. I’d highly recommend!
Valley course with plenty of hazards and tough shots.
Don't let it fool you. Good looking sights and some tough shots. Greens were fast and in great shape. Slopes and undulations abound. Downhill putts roll off false fronts. A few well placed sand traps and in good shape. Hazards galore and forced carries. Tee boxes in good shape. Fairways average and growing in. Excellent 19th hole and pizzas looked good. Nice big pro shop.
Fantastic round
Blue sky, green grass, smooth greens, and a great score! Oh, no wind!!!! Fantastic.
Love the layout of this course
A perfect day for golf. Rapid City Elks course is in great shape for this early in the season. Great customer service and pace of play was perfect. This is a very challenging course especially with some tough greens. This is one of my favorite courses in the Rapid City area.
Great springtime golf
Everything is great for the course. Greens were dry and fast. Roughs are short and not hard to play out of. Absolutely beautiful weather. I didn't go into the pro shop except to check in. It is limited due to COVID. This has always been a great course for the intermediate player.
Hidden Gem
Shout out to Grounds Superintendent for the condition of greens at this hidden gem of a course. Was looking for an enjoyable afternoon to play after a week of driving to all the usual attractions in the Rapid City area. This course fit the need and then some. Will definitely return!
Short, Steady and Sweet
This course is not overwhelmingly long. But it can play tough if you miss the fairway wide. The greens, as always, are in great shape. Smooth and firm. A few holes on the back nine are a little too close to neighboring homes, which can lead to some awkward run-ins with irritated homebuyers (we got yelled at by an older gentleman for being too close to his yard while searching for a lost ball)! But, it didn’t hamper our day. All in all, it’s a wonderful course experience at a GREAT price!
