Circling Raven Golf Club
For golfers who want to play more than the 18 holes at Coeur D'Alene, Circling Raven Golf Club is located about 30 minutes away.

The yearly Golf Advisor state best-of lists are compiled by analyzing the ratings and reviews submitted by members of our community throughout the year. We use our Golf Advisor Index logic that weights newer reviews and combine it with a course's weighted subcategory averages. Reviews from trusted and active reviewers are weighted heavier than inactive members. Courses must offer public access and have received at least one review in 2018 to be eligible for this year's list.

Total reviews in the Mountain West states in 2018: 981
Total golf courses reviewed in the Mountain West states in 2018: 20

Editor's note: we combined these five states into one list due to a lack of reviews compared to other states in the U.S.

This list tells me I need to start doing more reviews. I have no idea how all these south Dakota courses make the list when there is no mention of Bully Pulpit, Links of ND and Hawktree on there. All three courses have been on top 100 public courses at one time and for good reason. I love SD but it is a black hole for great golf. Some beautiful land out there but very few great golf courses in that area. Also would love to know how the list is compiled. You have a 12 review 5 star at one, a 21 review 4 star at two and then a 10 review 5 star at 3? A 38 review 5 star is 15????? Is the sort feature not working? Total reviews aren't in order and neither is highest average so how are you ordering them? Old works is a tough and fun track with great views. Don't see how that falls below all those in town SD muni's.

if golf advisor wants these rankings to truly be somewhat accurate need to get more reviews from players. i have golfed the whitefish kalispel columbia falls area often and village greens although a nice course may not even make the top 6 in that area let alone 4 states worth. wilderness club is a nice quiet spot but has a few hokey holes and some bad greens where if greens are a little fast make the course unplayable for the average golfer. golf advisor please find a better way to get reviews to make your lists more accurate.
