Bad course and even worse employees. Staff asked a member of our group if he could read.
I would give this place a zero if they'd let me.
When confronted about not sharing clubs, I said, "What time was the tee time for the other course? If he needs to pay for a set of clubs, then we can go somewhere else. I have never been to a course where you can't share clubs." This is when, he went into our cart, grabbed the scorecard and said "Can you read?". This is when the foul language began because he insulted me to my face in front of my friends.
They came by once to break us up - One worker being nice about it, and the other was screaming at us from the cart. The only other time they came by was to tell us to try and speed up, which we did, even though there was nobody behind us and we weren't holding up any other players.
All but one worker treated us like we were just some kids trying to tear up their course. We were 6 adults with 2 tee times playing a round of golf.
It was the worst experience I have ever had in my life of playing this game. The employees ruined the experience.
Great layout.
The course has a great old school layout. It will play much more difficult when trees leaves are back. I'll play it again.
Nice Muni Course
Greens are in great shape. Pace of play was slow, very busy course on weekends. Fairly wide open with little water. Fairways were very soggy due to all the rain the area has seen. No driving range, but a nice place overall.
In great shape (7/2016)
I have played here several times. This municipal course can get a bit rough at times. However, on this visit in July 2016 I found the course to be in great shape. The fairways were green and there were no tight lies. The greens were average speed with no bare spots. Kudos to the team for getting and keeping this course in such great shape.
As for playing, be careful with your drives as there are many holes with a "stream" crossing the fairway a distance off. While the "streams" are lined with cement and are only wet after a good rain, if you find yourself in one you really can't hit it out and will need to take a stroke. Other than that, ENJOY!
Since this course is a Donald Ross design, I put it on the "bucket list" for those who have a goal of playing his courses like I do.
Childhood Golf Course
I have always enjoyed this classic Donald Ross design. Greens and course are always in wonderful condition! I am glad his has been Notre Dame High School home course for fifty plus years. I have played his course 100 + times. The staff is always very friendly. The course numbers were flipped in the early 90's (1 thru 9, is now 10 thru 18). The course numbers needs to be changed back to represent the Donald Ross Era design. The course was design in around 1928, why change the history of this great course & golf club?
