Twelve Stones Golf Club
About
Twelve Stones Golf Club (formerly known as Twelve Stones Crossing) sprawls across rolling hills, making the golf course known for its dramatic elevation changes. An even lie will be hard to find and golfers will also have a few blind shots in store for them. The undulating terrain makes for some difficult holes but it serves another, more player-friendly purpose of providing scenic respite with idyllic views of the surrounding countryside. The greens are lightning fast, but they roll true and there is rough bordering the well-manicured fairways. There are also several bunkers strategically placed throughout. It is a golf course that is challenging but still fun to play, a statement that holds true for a wide range of skill levels. Given the versatile design and affordable rates, Twelve Stones Golf Club is a popular venue for tournaments and outings.

This course has potential
Course has a cool layout and some holes that are perfect. However some holes don’t get much sun so the greens and tee boxes are in pretty bad shape
This course needs serious attention
The first time we played this course, we caught reviews about the greens all being messed up and there being golf cart tracks running through them. We were pleasantly surprised to see that only the 18th green had the tracks but was clearly being handled, and the rest of the greens were in good shape. The rest of the course was in good shape. We have played several times in the year since, and the course has unfortunately gone downhill.
The course is difficult to begin with. Many of the holes are so challenging that it actually takes a lot of the enjoyment out of the play. I gotta give the course credit for really having hole diversity, though. Elevation changes, water hazards, bunkers, gentle dog legs... this course really brings it. The pace of play has never been awesome. Tee times are stacked pretty hard and is much tighter now than it was a year ago. There is a Marshall now, though, and a starter (and a cart girl!). That is all helpful to keep shenanigans at bay, but pace of play at Twelve Stones has always been due to over-stacked tee times. The fairways are rough and the rough is rougher. The greens on most of the holes are all now in pretty bad shape. I am happy to report, however, that the 18th green is healing up quite nicely. Probably the course's most redeeming quality is the incredible views. Some of these holes have the most breathtaking views of the area.
The carts are starting to show signs of abuse (golfers are kinda jerks, if you didn't know), but they are still some of the nicer carts in the area. Gas-powered, but they do have GPS with geo fences, USB charging ports, and a rain cover for the clubs. You can also stream your music over Bluetooth through the GPS screens if you didn't bring your own speaker.
The driving range is something, the putting greens are shut down for much-needed maintenance, but the chipping area is fantastic. The driving range is painful because they rotate between mats and areas of grass, but the areas of grass aren't grass at all. It's deep pockets in the sand. Mat days at the range are great, and it's actually pretty awesome how late they stay open and that they have lights.
The clubhouse is the greatest part of Twelve Stones. The pro shop is full of good stuff and the staff is always nice. The Sand Trap, though... I like to just go for a meal even when I'm not playing. The food is so wonderfully cheap (PLEASE please please don't change this!!!) and it's absolutely delicious. The Reuben is phenomenal, burger is amazing, the fries and wings are incredible, and try the fried golf balls. We've never been disappointed. They also have a full bar and the service is usually good. Don't go on an evening when they are hosting an event, though. We made the mistake of not checking once and got burned hard. We got sat on the patio out back (which is LOVELY) but then we got forgotten. Stuck it out for 45 minutes and then went somewhere else. Of the tons of times we've eaten there, though, one bad experience surely isn't the end of the world.
We for sure won't be back for another round anytime soon. We'll check reviews next summer and see if anyone comments on the greens being in better condition and but even then that's a big maybe. As it stands right now, it isn't worth the $40-50 they are currently charging. Even with repaired greens, the tee times being packed so tightly make it a hard sell. We're definitely coming back for that food though!
Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. The current condition is by no means the standard we strive to achieve and are working diligently to improve the course. Thank you for playing Twelve Stones Golf Club. We hope to see you again soon.
Very interesting layout
We are from Indiana and first time playing the course. We had walked the course twice following our grandson in a college tournament. The reason for low rating on pace of play was we went out after four groups of locals. Certainly not their problem as we were only a twosome but it took 4:30 to play. Starter was very accommodating, he let us go out early, right after the locals. We would definitely play again.
Tough course. Touch greens.
The course has some very tough holes. Very well laid out. The hills and valleys were awesome. This course has some of the most beautiful views I’ve seen this far north in TN.
However, the greens were in complete disarray. The potholes were everywhere. Some of the tee boxes were so bad, we couldn’t play on them.
It was maintenance issues. The hills and difficulty are high. The fairways and bunkers were good. The layout is awesome. The sand trap restaurant is pretty good. We enjoyed that.
The staff is super friendly and helpful.
Tons of fun!
The tee time worked out perfect for a window of golf time that we had - and the course was in great shape.
Great Course
This is a pretty challenging track, typically with good conditions. Tons of elevation change and there's not much forgiveness on most of the holes. The layout is pretty fun and it's a great bang for buck course. The practice area includes a decent range and solid chipping/pitching green. My only real criticism is the practice green which is on the side of a hill and offers basically no gauge of what the greens are like on the course. Overall, it's a great course that I have played dozens of times and will continue to do so.
WOW
Been a while since I played out here and WOW!
I’ve always thought this layout is one of the best around. Played on a Friday afternoon, there were 2 of us and the pace of play was great. Carts were clean and the GPS is awesome! Staff was very accommodating and courteous. The improvements they have made with removing some bunkers and reshaping others, really stands out. Looks like some new tee boxes are on the way. Can’t wait to come back!
Had food in drinks in the restaurant afterwards and it was great!
Another fun round at Twelve Stones
Even teeing off at 8 AM, the weather was unsufferably HOT, but a good time was had by all. The course was in the best shape I have seen it all year, especially the tee boxes. The after-round social time at "The Sand Trap" (19th hole) was relaxing, comfortable, and enjoyable, as always! Thanks for a great day!
