Course Layout reset - All GPS app's Failed
It was my first time playing this course in at least six months or more. I was surprised to see the whole course layout changed. They had changed a couple of tee numbers last year but everything has changed now. We had three GPS apps in our group and none of them worked. I updated the Bushnell Phantom 2 rangefinder before I went out with the latest course information (update was available) but that was useless.
The Ranger stated that course the updates have been sent out but none of them have shown-up in the apps yet. I asked about distance markers on the course and he explained that the 200 and 150 yardages are stenciled on paved cart paths. Most of cart paths here are unpaved so we were guessing on our distance to the green most of time.
I wonder if it would not be helpful to post some painted markers at the cart path until the apps catch-up. A painted Stick or Rock at the cart path is not a big ask as most course have something posted somewhere anyway.
We also discovered wild / really tall grass areas in front of several Tee boxes. You must hit your drive over this to just make it to the front fairway. Our struggling golfers lost balls in this needless grass this year. Last year the grass there was just thick but you could pick-up your ball - now it's impossible.. I guess this feature and other newly grown wild grass areas add some character to the course but I think it will intimidate some golfers and they will never play there again.
The fairways and greens were in good shape. Of course the rough needed to be mowed so finding balls there was really iffy and time consuming. So much for keeping pace of play in mind. .
Our group is a mix of good and struggling golfers so we will rarely play this course in the future.
Beautiful Sunday afternoon
Booked this course on Sunday afternoon. Weather was perfect and we got to play with Tyler and Kevin. Alway good to meet new people during golf.
The holes order changed since last year we played this course and I did not update my Garmin.
Nevertheless we had.a great time on a well maintained course.
Great improvements! Always a pleasure playing here
They made a lot of course changes this year! The course is a lot more playable and fun with the new hole structure, a little bit less trees in weird places, and reworked greens!
This is one of our go-to local courses. The staff is always been great, the courses will maintained, and overall a wonderful golf course ( especially for the $)
Only downside is there's limited food options and there isn't always a beer cart!
Nice early spring round! Will be back!
.Enjoyed a nice early spring round at the Links Course. Easy drive to the valley. Weather was good for early March, a little windy. Greens were excellent and challenging. Fairway were in good shape as well. Cart path only today, not a problem. Several temporary tee boxes as the new management are working on numerous improvements. New course mapping but figured it out with my Golfshot app. Look forward to returning in June! Got around very quickly with no delays.
Off-Season Round
I have played courses year-round, and my expectations for winter are different than if I was playing a course in-season, even with that, I wasn't super happy with the course.
Conditions of the course were better than I expected for late Feb. Fairways were nice condition, greens were excellent. They are doing a lot of work around the course, and clearly changed the order of the holes recently (as the Hole numbers were printed signs on the posts over the old numbers, and the course apps on my phone didn't know the change yet).
Some of the tee boxes where just spots in "rough", which is somewhat understandable in teh winter, but one box in particular on the front 9 was so uneven it was difficult to cleanly hit m driver. Also interesting, none of the par 3s (iron holes) were affected by this as they all used areas that are clearly teeing areas normally.
Fairways are narrow on many holes, which provides a nice challenge.
Club-house clearly is also being improved as there was some new construction in around the pro-shop.
I had heard this changed ownership recently, so I am not surprised.
Checking in, I thought the gentleman in the pro shop was a bit gruff, as he was the only person at the course I interacted with, is why I scored that as Fair.
Price was great, and I will try this course again in-season, at least once.
In Construction- new owner-
The course is under repair and construction. Trees being cut down workers everywhere. The pro shop is open to make Tee-times- that is about it. Everything else is closed and being renovated. The carts are Old and dingy - seats torn in mine. The tee boxes are all mostly closed so you play from rough or fairway spots. Fairways are improving and greens too. Should be major discount for playing in the mess - but it’s not. If you are ok with the mess , lack of clubhouse and noise everywhere- then you will be fine.
Great course
Have always liked this course. Really enjoying the changes becoming more open with less trees. Seeing the openness to other fairways makes it more picturesque. Thanks for all you do to improve the golfers experience.
A Great Course
Used to be called Bowling Green now called The Links. Still a great course and a great place to play. Great staff too! Love playing here.
Great Course
Great little course, fair but challenges you to hit good shots.
Greens are in great shape, running fast, maybe a tad too fast.
The roughs are what you would expect and fair. The layout out is a little tough, but can be managed with well placed shots.
Looking forward to playing again.
Always a fun course to play.
Used to be called Bowling Green north. Now under new management. The GPS cars are gone and there is a slight change in the course hole numbers but otherwise same course. It was in great condition, greens ran true and fairways well taken care of us. Front desk and starter were very nice. Love playing here.
Dusty Dog Track
The course was extremely dry...no markers anywhere...no water on the course available for players. It felt like the bare minimum maintenance is being done because of the intended future of the course. Shame, really, it's a nicely laid out course, but it felt like we were hitting off of a dusty road, even in the fairway. I'll stick to Shenandoah Valley proper.
Slow day, slow carts, doesn’t marshal
Took over five hours to complete round. Course was unmarshalled. Had a guy walk on at the 13th hole without clubs to join group in front of us. Had a fivesome ahead of us as well.
Sat 5/27
Staff was great, average pace of play, greens were outstanding, fairways a little dry. (Allowed for some good rollout off the tee though) tee boxes were in good shape. Would recommend and play again
