Comeback
To see this course today compared to where it was at condition wise last year earn in Virginia's comeback golf course of the year. This nine-hole gem was nearly left for dead as political grumblings sat around hoping it would go away. But, as the Carson family would have wanted it, Front Royal Golf Club ON the Shenandoah River is back as a viable and FUN golf option. Treat yourself and come back!
would play again
your staff was courteous and polite course in very good shape first time playing would recommend to friends
Rating the course.
I would highly recommend this to everyone. This course has a lot to offer with a long par five and challenging parr fours. Will definitely be returning.
Old, but cheap
Not exactly a premiere course, but cheap an playable, with tough greens
Labor Day Slow
This course is 9 holes with 18 tee boxes. My tee time was when the last group of morning times was going through the second time. First 9 holes took 3 long hours but the last 9 took one hour.
Tough Greens
The staff was very friendly, although I would encourage the maintenance staff to choose somewhere other than directly outside the clubhouse to smoke. The course was straight forward with some challenging greens. Nice course to get away. Perfect for beginners and senior players. Using the different tee boxes for second nine does make a difference.
Love this course for its value
The pro shop lent me a putter because I left mine at home. Sometimes the course is confusing because of the doubling up of the fairways. The other players on the course do a nice job of helping you figure it out.
I got behind an incredibly slower than slow elderly pair....but I just replayed the first four holes which was easy to do on this course.
I enjoy 5 - 8 by the river and the views are really breathtaking.
9 hole challenge
A fun mixture of holes, with different tees allowing for a different look on the back nine of this nice layout. Easily accessible from Routes 66 and 81 it's a fun challenge whether you want to play a quick nine holes or a full 18.
I played poorly
Course has rye fairways that are cut so short that it was hard to get a solid strike on ball. Greens were in good shape though a bit fast for 4 amateurs..
Nice
Played this course and we had a good time... Tough holes and enjoyed the challenge... Great scenery
only par 3
nice course i had one free round um i don't think it should be called a cc if its only 9 holes good for beginners
It depends
An odd place. Basic golf without frills. Only nine holes and the 2nd set of tees are not much different. Near normal length course is a little long for the novice, wife or child but it's a little scrappy for the serious golfer. Still glad I went
Worst customer service experience ever in my lifetime
Front Royal Golf Course would not honor my Golfnow online tee time booking. I was told that a cart would not be available for my reservation and they did not know when and if one would. They hold carts for customers who only book directly with the club. Be prepared to be turned down after confirmation of your Golfnow booking. Their manager claims it is smart business to only deal with golfers who book directly with the club.
Nice little course for the price
This is a nice little 9 hole course with 2 sets of tee boxes which give you a little different feel on the back 9. Beautiful scenery of the mountains and river, and the price is not bad for a round of golf with cart. Only drawback is little confusing were the tee boxes are and some wait time.
Other options
There are 4 other courses within 10 minutes that are better all the way around. There were at least 4 groups of 6 players or more in them slowing everything down.
ehhh
for the hot deals price its worth it. they take very good care of the greens and it plays longer than it looks. on the down side any busy day the holes drag out. we followed a group of 4 ahead of us and 2 groups of 4 that started behind us when we got to the "back 9". i can solo the course in 2 hrs getting behind the groups took well over 6. slow week days are great but not worth wasting the time or money on a weekend.
Interesting 9 hole setup
9 greens, 18 T boxes. Result was a very interesting round of golf. Had to wait for foursome on the first T to hit before we could T up on 10 even though there was no one in front of us. This pattern continues for the entire back 9. Greens and fairways were in great shape we really had a great round since we were not in any kind of hurry. Took a little over 5 hours to play 18. Would have been longer if there anyone on 10 T when we started. Knowing this going in really helps the situation. Everyone there was super friendly and helpful.
Really only 9 Holes
The course only has 9 holes, but has a few extra tee boxes to make it look like 18. So, even though you may be on hole 12, you could be waiting on someone on hole 3. Definitely not worth $25. Course was in very nice shape though.
This course is in great condition.
This is a nine hole course played from two different sets of tees. The course is in great condition with very fast and smooth greens. It is sometimes overlooked because of the other local courses, but it is challenging and very scenic. I would not pay full price to play here but with the hot deals that are available from GolfNow, it is a really great deal.
