Ok course, but fairways in bad shape
The layout at Westpark is good and it's normally a great value. However, it's been a season or two since I've played there and the fairways were bad. I'm not sure if it was due to some disease or just bad maintenance, but almost as may bare spots as green in the fairways. So, you have to roll the ball to get a good fairway lie, but still an ok course for the money.
Good for the price!
It's cheap and the staff is very nice. The course need maintenance though and on most holes the red tee don't have much of an advantage.
Good little course, but needs some attention.
Overall, this course is pretty good. Some areas need some attention (see below), but the course was worth the money.
Tee boxes: OK - Not the most level ones I've ever played, but the grass was generally kept nice.
Fairway: Need Attention - Way too much dead grass. Often you were just playing off dirt.
Rough: OK - Generally lush and not too thick.
Greens: Good - Were slow, but in nice shape.
Sand: OK - Some need attention, but most were fine.
Carts: OK - Old and gas powered, but get the job done. No rain covers though.
Side Note: We played on a day where it rained on and off, and the course handled the rain really well.
Summer Burn
The course has a very bad case of grass burn on all the fairways. Greens and Tees are fine but hitting off hard pan from the fairways is the reason to avoid it for the summer. In the Spring and Fall seasons the course is a great value.
Needs work
No Marshall therefore some start on the front and some start on the back. Small children driving carts putting themselves and Everyone at risk. No clean water in ball washers. Sand traps with little to no sand, just wet dirt and grass growing up. Greens slow not maintained. Good luck finding grass in the fairways. Downed trees on the course for over two months.
Poorly maintained course
The fairway does not have any grass and definitely not worth more than $15. Really badly maintained course.
needs a grounds keeper
Worst maintained course I've played in years. As the other blogs have said the fairways are riddled with patches of no grass. But there are patches of nice grass around to move you ball to. However, the bunkers are not maintained at all and there are weeds growing everywhere around the tee boxes. With a little effort this course could at least become respectable. But that would require a Head Greenskeeper. Speaking of greens they were in very good condition. BTW the course has a decent layout and is challenging.
Fairways were burned up; greens were reasonable, but a ot of players were not fixing ball marks.
I played just past 3 PM; the course had a twilight rate of $25, which is a reasonable fee to practice you game. Speed of play was a little slow. Fairways were burned up; greens were reasonable but many players were not fixing ball marks.
Good value for evening play
Good staff but poor fairways and being rushed when stuck behind a group detracted from the course. Better pacing by the marshalls and some attention to the fairways on the back 9 would improve the course. I will definitely return again.
course needs maintenance
It is a ok course to play for the money, especially for those who can hit solidly and long. However, the course needs some serious maintenance. There are mud and water everywhere even it is in a hot summer day. The tee boxes and fairway are not well manicured and there are many bare spots everywhere. The course layout is somewhat puzzling. A little bit friendliness of pro-shop staff will go a long way.
This course has great hole locations
The Cours layout was great, the putting greens were the right speed, and the out of bound areas were well marked. I will play here again.
Customer service could use a little energy or enthusiasm considering it was my first time at the course.
Overall a good experience.
A fun day w/friends
Decided to play Westpark with friends on the 4thof July. Was an enjoyable round. Course conditions were good. Started as a 4some but ended up as a 5some as a single joined us on #12. Much to my surprise as we finished I saw a 6some making the turn.
course was much improved and maintained
great for the price. course was in good shape and
some pleasant challenges.
Great in-town public track for the average golfer.
Great golf course for the price. I like certain holes (4, 8, 18) but dislike 13-15 on the back as they all run together causing folks to play from adjacent fairways. Definitely worth the 40 bucks.
It was in the best shape in over 2 years
Driving range is very poor and has been for many years.
Club house is dated as it was once part of hotel.
Staff was friendly.
Course was in great shape even after over an inch of rain the day before. There was standing water in the normal places and they were marked off. Green were very good and each cup had water in it from the heavy rain the day before. Was cart path only and the rain drove many players away in the morning starts.
Played in about 4:15 minutes. They had a marshall out as there was a 5-some of young players. The Marshall had others pass them at the tee box to keep the pace up. This 5-some was at least 2 holes behind.
No cart person on this course and they should consider having one.
Is one of the best values in the immediate area. County run courses are $20 more per round.
Very good public course.
Played on a late Saturday morning and had an enjoyable experience. The course was in excellent shape -- well maintained. mowed, and greens in excellent shape. Pace of play was good, did not spend time waiting for a shot. Other people we encountered were cordial and friendly. Course is worth playing.
Challengeing Holes
The Course has some very challenging and fun holes. The one downside is if you play during the week on a morning tee time, the "19th Hole" Snack Shop does not open till 10:30am so there is no breakfast or drink service till then.
Holiday & Afternoon = SLOW PLAY
Good course in nice condition at this time. Usually runs at a good pace, but the Holiday and after noon brought out lots of "Hackers" took over 5 1/2 hour to get 18 hole in. 3 for just the first 9. Had people steal our ball, not yelling "4" -- had two balls come within 5 feet in 5 minutes (same group) no courtesy.
Good course to maintain skills
This course is a good course to maintain your skills at a decent cost. The front nine has a few more challenges than the back nine which helps in mixing things up a bit.
