Good day at Foster Golf Links
Course was in surprisingly good shape Good weather and good rate of play.
Great Practice
Fosters is always in great condition...a little wet this time of year, so bunkers become ponds. But a great place to get warmed up for the season and great burger/beer specials at lunch time. You wont be disappointed.
Overall length
the course was beautiful. But, if you are a long hitter, don't expect to use your driver. I average about 280 with my driver, and there were maybe 4 holes where I was able to use my driver.
Just of I-5
Fun and easy course. Can be very wet after a rainy day. Very well keep course. Golf early if you don't want to have slow play.
Restaurant and bar a fairly new.
I prefer other courses.
There is a lot of goose manure all around and the smell from what I assume to be the rendering plant next door is awful if you're downwind..and we were downwind. Not a bad course though, plenty challenging for a hacker like me. I'd play there again if the price was right. Unfortunately I paid in advance because it was Hot Deal and one guy didn't show up...no refund.
Foster 18 with Kirk Ray
Great Round with great friends....funniest part was when Kirk Ray shanked his drive on #1 into the river and proceeded to carry and drop a ball 250 yards down the fairway and claimed he was hitting 3....got an amazing bogey!!!
Course was wet but well maintained ....tight fairways made it a shot makers round ! Can't wait to play it again !!!
Sunday
I have played here before and will again. When I checked in, the guy who took my money said, in the same breath, pace of play is 4.5 hours and they are 25 minutes behind schedule. So, I new from the start, pace of play would not be fast. after 5.25 hours and still with three holes to go, I gave up and left.
The course was in good shape
The course was in good shape. The pace of play was a little slow. No course marshal to help speed things up.
Good course, pretty short though
I had never been here before, but my partners suggested it, and I found a killer deal on GolfNow. SO we went. The course was pretty mucky in places, but it has been raining here. The day was sunny and a little cold, but not bad. I was surprised at the niceness of the clubhouse and the food was very, very good, after the round. Drinks at the turn were strong and we were 4 happy golfers. Casual dress keeps it low key and I would not hesitate to play here again, altho I looked at the summer rates and they want $29 (!!) for a power cart...that's nuts! And $37 for a round on the weekend is way too steep for this course. SO I guess I would not pay to play here in summer.
The day before the day.
Thank you to Rick and Mark for allowing me to join them for a beautiful day of golf. The game you hate to love.
Plays long in winter . . .
One has to remember that playing this course in the winter is going to be a challenge since it rests in low country and is very flat. Great little track all year and super facilities and staff but just be prepared for it to play long when wet and muddy. Am tired of reading comments about the winter conditions . . . it is wet and stays wet! But a great value to play in the winter and always fun when dry; but usually heavily played for good reasons such as location, short, good greens, conditions, and facilities. Feel-good course.
Nice flat course
I really enjoyed playing Foster. It is flat and is a great walking course. several of the holes bring water into play to make it a challenge. It is well cared for and had pretty good drainage. All in all, a good value and fun time
Great links course
Great layout and beautiful greens! Too bad it was raining
Only playable when dry
This course is a lot of fun during the dryer seasons, but is absolutely awful in wetter times of year. For $19 with a cart, it's still worth just getting out to play, but it's a mud pit right now, a few of the greens hold standing water, much of the ground just falls apart under the ball so you lose 20-30 yards a shot much of the time. Some of my best rounds have come here, but I can't imagine paying to play it during the winter unless there is a stretch of dryer weather. Greens are in rough shape, lots of repair right now, in preparation for the spring in sure, but again you can find deals to play this course that make it worth a day out with some buddies. Food is really good too!
no mowing?
When arriving at the course, I knew that it would be a bit wet, however I was more than surprised to see that the grass wasn't mowed for some time and the leafs were not blown off the fairways. It was nearly impossible to find balls after teeing off as they were either buried in mud or under leaves.
Scenic Course Could Use a Haircut
Cool, beautifully sunny (and very windy) at Foster G.C. on Veteran's Day. The only negative was how long the grass was in so many locations. Balls were lost often, and a few other players I talked with said the same. Even when I checked in, the staff at the desk was apologetic about the unmowed conditions.
(This is the first review I've ever written, so I'm not some chronic complainer.)
Great staff
Friendly staff. Given 2 golf balls for free cause of muddy conditions. I think the price was a bit steep $30 walking for how muddy it was. Every hole someone was looking for their ball in the mud.
Perfect golf day!
I was a little upset about the lack of respect the group in front of us had for the grounds. Never fixed huge divots, slammed flag pin on the greens...
There was a lot of ground under repair.
So Pleasant
My partner and I were running about 20 minutes late and although we made a reservation on Golf.now, the course accomodated us and said it was not a problem that we were missing our original tee time. Great day!
Dump the stupid foot golf
Easy access from any direction.Number 3 green has some problems, two large bare patches. they over watered the course and there were some not muddy but too damp in the fairways.Greens were slower than normal but rolled true.Good pace, had to wait 5 minutes on a few holes. Used a lot of short irons.played midweek and the always friendly staff got me out early.Nice course for what it is.I have a problem with the foot golf thing It is a dumb idea and I won;t play there while it's going on.
